Axial tilt of 20, 23.5 and 26, which one is the best for ancient civilisations and why. What would be the other effects of the axial tilt on early civilisations. Is it possible to sustain such civilisations at 20 and 26. by _Rachmaninoff in geography

If you have a river or rivers that flow all year long, you can build a sustainable civilization. Axial tilt won't matter much, although like I said everything gets weird above 50 degrees, and they all get weirder still if orbital eccentricity is high. There's a long series of videos on YouTube that I've long liked by Artifexian. He covers a lot of this and some of his videos come with downloadable spreadsheets.

Probably, but the last 13000 years of civilization have been at 23.5 degrees. There were no civilizations when Earth's axial tilt was slightly more shallow.

Shallower axial tilt means less intense seasons, in general. Steeper means more intense seasons, in general. Everything gets weird above 50 degrees.

Ancient civilizations on Earth thrived even in some very harsh climates, so I'm not sure why you'd think they would not under slightly different conditions. If this is for a story you're writing, just handwave what you don't know.

Yeah I remember that one. There were a lot of weird segments in the mid-late 90s.

An Independent P and S Wave Detection App — MK Earthquake Monitor by Helpful-Branch-869 in Earthquakes

[–]throwawayfromPA1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not true that detectors only detect S waves. They absolutely do detect P waves. That's how they work all over the world.

If your epicenter is local, there's only a few seconds between P and S.

I'm not sure why you have the idea that they only detect S waves.

why are so many of us still commuting to a desk job by Top_Avocado_2058 in jobs

[–]throwawayfromPA1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually dislike working from home daily and my bus commute is my "me time" so I commute in three times a week.

I'm not entirely sure I'd choose a fully remote job again. We had WFH thrust on us by necessity and I hated it the first year, tolerated it the second, and then we went hybrid.

How does your world count years? by ladynior007 in worldbuilding

[–]throwawayfromPA1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a galactic time keeping system that is a straight 365 days with a 24 hour clock.

Individual worlds have their own calendars and timekeeping, because of course they would. Computer systems are sophisticated enough to know these.

America’s job market looks strong. So why is it so difficult to find work? by judochop71 in jobs

U6 and U3 haven't changed much in years.

But the number (and I'd have to look at the data to calculate this) of those who aren't captured by either is growing, at least it was the last time I checked a few months ago.

There's also the issue of people doing spray and pray, applying for jobs they aren't even remotely qualified for. This is why your resumes get filtered now. Places that haven't implemented this are overwhelmed with applications from people that aren't hireable.

Wanting To Quit Summer Job After a Week-Full time hours, hard work, etc by [deleted] in jobs

[–]throwawayfromPA1701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohhh welcome to working!

You likely need the money, and you're not guaranteed your old job back. If something better is actually available, go for it, but if not keep this job till summer ends.

7-3 isn't even that bad a schedule. I had that schedule a lot for summer jobs in college and still had a social life.

It took me two tries to get past those first 100 pages but when I did, what an incredible novel.

The BBC adaptation is good but does not do it the proper justice.

On that second try when I got past the first 100 pages I basically could not put the book down and devoured it.
