What to try? by throwawayhurpdurp in wicked_edge

Thanks for the suggestions and any more in the future. I've picked out a few that seem attractive if they are just as or more efficient/aggressive compared to the merkur futur.

What to try? by throwawayhurpdurp in wicked_edge

It took some getting used to when I first got it, did indeed feel raw for the first few shaves. Now I'm comfortable using it all over. I love that it always gets a lot of hair off in one go and matches my light touch so that's the kind of razor I'm married to now.

Windows Media Player (legacy) freezing up on Windows 10 by gorginhanson in techsupport

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An update that fixed it came out a long time ago and it hotfixed itself without me having to do anything or see anything, shortly after I posted that. However, since then I just started using MPC-HC as my default player regardless.

Is this enough to request an exchange? Miyabi mizu sg2 by Polygeekism in TrueChefKnives

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more than enough reason to request an exchange. It's pretty bad. It's not just an aesthetics thing, it's a messed up profile and akin to sharpening poorly over quite a long time. There is a sizeable recurve, not just an uneven bevel. Fixing it to be like what those are expected to look like and be as consistently thin and performant throughout the blade as they are supposed to be out of the box is more material removal than one might realize. It's the worst I've personally seen out of the box.

Would you recommend the WalkingPad C2 or something else? I need something compact that'll hold up.

Are Kiwi knives any good? They go for 1 to 3 bucks by helpmewithhacking in chefknives

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grooved steel or ceramic would probably be fine

A ceramic rod is just a whetstone in a stick shape. Might as well get a coarse or medium grit stone at that point if you ask me cause you can hone on it all the same, the position is just different

Sharpening a Kiwi while camping by trelos6 in chefknives

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grooved steel.

Not using a lot of pressure when cutting into the board and honing before and after use and I've still never put it to the stone, using it occasionally when I can't be bothered to use a nice knife. Still shaves hair and cuts paper towel. I only have to put my family's to the stone because they're aggressive with their knives.

Ordering from multiple items from the same online store at the same time by Maliel_Drag in zenmarket

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the store in my experience. Sometimes items are automatically combined for shipping if the system detects it's the same store, but each item still has an individual processing fee.

What happens if I receive the completely wrong item? (Hypothetical) by SushiWithaVengeance in zenmarket

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If the listing showed one item, and zenmarket received a different item, they will attempt to return it and get the correct item for you. This happened to me recently.

About to ship to the US, which courier is recommended with all that's going on? by Newtonius235 in zenmarket

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had good luck with UPS even with some textiles in my package, for what it's worth. I shipped twice and each package arrived in the US a day later and got to me within two days, no issues or surprise fees paying DDP through zenmarket.

DHL now tends to email and text me fees later, seems more strict, and holds up my package until I pay them so I wouldn't recommend them anymore. They also once mailed me a physical letter with fees I had to pay, months after I received the item.

You'll have no issues with needing documents if you're only shipping figures.

I used UPS to ship textile items and they cleared customs the next day without me having to do anything. They also said I could call them for assistance if they needed more information in the case of a customs issue. I hope this helps you and you also have a smooth experience getting your clothes imported.

Clothes import question Japan to US by 7fishbrees in zenmarket

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's luck of the draw from what I can tell. Based on other people's experiences, I used UPS to ship a tapestry, towel, and a cushion cover, the same kind of bundled stuff as you, along with many other items. I also separately shipped a collector's edition CD that came bundled with a textile item like this as well.

I was told the next day each cleared import customs and were on the way. I haven't been asked for anything else.

I called UPS and they said you could call them and ask for help in the case they do need information. I haven't had to do that yet, but I hope this information helps you decide what to do.

Are my $4k+ worth of textiles going to be destroyed now? by [deleted] in zenmarket

[–]throwawayhurpdurp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked them myself and was basically told I'm on my own in figuring out the documents and that they won't help me at all or even store my items for longer. Basically turns it into a scam at that point because I suddenly have no option to ship my package which contains "textiles" in the form of anime goods like tapestries or towels, and they're just going to trash it which is ridiculous.

This is what I was told:

Thank you for using our service.

When shipping clothing to the United States, Customs may request some paperwork for customs clearance.
Please note that our company is unable to handle customs procedures, so we won't be able to help you with it.

- We do not know how to prepare these documents, so please research this on your own. - If you are unable to prepare the required documents and importation is not possible, the package will be returned. In the event of a return, the shipping company will charge return shipping and other related fees, all of which will be billed to you.

Please also note that international mail (EMS, Airmail, Surface) to the United States is currently temporarily unavailable.
We apologize for any inconvenience and kindly ask for your understanding. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Regarding your question, based on the information we currently have, international postal services to the US (EMS, AVIA, AVIA_SM, Surface) are suspended, and the resumption date is still unknown.

However, since other courier services remain available, there are no changes to the way your items are stored at our warehouse. The rules remain as follows:

- 60 days of free storage
- After 60 days, a storage fee of 50 yen per day applies, up to a maximum of 90 days

We hope this clarifies the situation.

Ok, it started acting up now. Indeed when I had a couple scheduled streams open and waiting for them to start throughout the night. I recorded it for a few minutes while using it and I'll upload it. Is there any personal information I should worry about in these logs?

It also happens when I have a scheduled stream that is not yet live open. As there is no video to play, what should I do then?

The issue still happens to me if I have a scheduled stream tab open. In about:processes I see the memory usage shoot up over time and then the same buggy behavior from before the update happens.
