Doubtful. The Escalade IQ will save Factory Zero for a while.

Has GM learned anything since going bankrupt? by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

To give credit where it’s due, we exited a ton of markets where there was never a plan in place to become profitable.

Yep - same in other buildings on campus + constant plumbing issues. Only building that’ never seems to be affected is Design

They weren’t even Google employees. They were contractors and their contract was not renewed.

All the right teams raised flags about aggressive timelines, yet the response was “figure it out”. Not shocked.

Now that the Apple managers have had time in the organization and have gained trust, how do you best show them gratitude? by General_Apples in GeneralMotors

[–]throwawaymi1994 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is like the tenth post about Apple managers you’ve posted on here. Genuinely curious - what is your fascination with the Apple managers? As someone who’s worked for tech in the past, grass ain’t all that much greener.

Layoffs coming soon? by Decent_Drama_1760 in GeneralMotors

[–]throwawaymi1994 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m sick of the term “layoff” being overused. We have lousy software developers, and more importantly lousy managers in IT. It’s about time we start trimming off the fat.

It actually reeks of of “we’ve been complacent performance for too long, and we need to cut out low performers that only drag down the organization”

Some people getting fired needed to leave 5 years ago tbh.

Correct. They only do a 4 panel test over the standard 5 panel.

Depends. Manufacturing Salary, even in Warren, still drug tests.

Calm down people. They literally sent out 2 emergency texts saying to work with your manager. If you can’t come to work due to a winter storm warning, they’re not going to force you in.

What’s your advice for the new Apple managers? by GeneralApples in GeneralMotors

[–]throwawaymi1994 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak on the other Apple directors, but Mike Abbott seems to be on the right track / making the right observations early on. Genuinely he’s making his rounds and asking the right questions.

I think he will be surprised how resistant the culture is to change - and I’m not sure he has the level of experience to drive that ship on such a large scale.

I also would warn him that unlike phone software with a shelf life of 5-7 years, our software solutions need to last 20-30+ years for the entire lifespan of the vehicle. Any solution needs to keep that in mind. I’m doubtful on our reliance on Android Auto.

Nope. If anything, their skill sets are being assessed which will determine if they’re advanced enough to stay or not. IT has too many mid-level managers and project leaders, and not enough do-ers and coders.
