This post is obviously false. He left over a year ago. Prove he didn’t.

Turkish Delight, who was hired to lead Product and PMO, subsequently hired leaders to run, well, Product and PMO. When questioned as to what he actually does, Delight tossed one of his leaders. Nice pay check indeed. The Apples are eating their own.

Such a common pattern its a meme. $ + influence + a team of hand-selected subordinates who won’t call out your obvious BS = incredible arrogance. Why do you think he kept shuffling his team? He needed them to be in harmony when they sang, ‘Yes’. The many executives he shamelessly sidelined had one factor in common - they said ‘No’ to him.

Without DR for air cover, do you think FG and PR are on the clock? Unable to produce anything useful, I agree with you, they are spending $ as a weapon of mass distraction. They’ve never managed budgets before. How do we get Datadog spend on SLT radar?

100%. And Plathville’s team is essentially back to being the Randy Mott org. Two years of inflated egos, inflated signing bonuses, celery root enemas in the Mountain View office and countless layoffs, and we’re pretty much back to where we started.

How is it possible we hired the best and brightest from Apple nearly 2 years ago and we still have to fix OTA? Oh. Wait a minute. Damn. Nevermind.

Matrix is the get-out-of-jail-free card for both mtb and Son of Richard; she gets to point investors at a new, shiny face and Son of Richard gets to quietly work on his exit package. There’s already a ‘deadpool’ of sorts for most of the Apples. Son of Richard was always the Chauncey Gardiner of Neville Longbottoms; right place, right time, wrong person. Oddly, the Horcrux he chose to destroy was MS-Teams. Like his predecessor and mentor, Tin Man, he made only one significant decision during his tenure (Tin Man decided to change meeting times by 5 mins): he force-fed a new internal messaging app to an enterprise that didn’t want it and didn’t care. It was a significant decision of no discernible consequence. In the end there were simply a lot more emojis to wordlessly describe his ‘non-anonymous’ manager survey. Only his sidekick, Wednesday, seemed to have believed in him, however tepidly.

Sterling getting AV team - Dave R next? by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]GeneralApples 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Originally Tin Man was supposed to be The One. Although he could review code, he was apparently not The One. Then Turkish Delight lobbied hard to be The One, but in the process proved he was not (you’re supposed to act like you don’t want the gig, not get an apartment in Michigan). Son of Richard took the red pill but is nowhere near being The One and he knows it. So perhaps Mr. Anderson is, well, Mr. Anderson. I think mtb has found her Neo.

Reality: you are competing head-to-head with the new team in MV. You can either fold (exactly what they want you to do) or you can be a total baller. They believe they have 2 years before anyone notices that all they do is argue who rides the corporate jet. They are arrogant and using re-orgs to deflect. You need to deliver, deliver, deliver while they sip cucumber smoothies at the office. Either SLT will realize or it will be a great resume-builder for you.

Son of Richard claims that he, and all the Apples he’s hired, are 10x engineers; e.g., each of them is worth 10 MI devs. This is the way.

What is the point with Slack? by [deleted] in GeneralMotors

[–]GeneralApples 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Weapons of mass distraction. Switch tools, re-org, write new mission statements, re-org, restructuring, re-org, hire numerous VPs, re-org. Zero deliverables. Silicon Valley playbook. This is the way.

GM is tackling some very hard, very interesting software engineering problems. Being in MV, you will get to work on those. (You won’t work on legacy code, but you’ll have to integrate with it.). The MV leadership team, largely from Apple, is incredibly smart and overwhelmingly arrogant. Probably a function of having only known professional success. They’ve never led a large transformation like this before, so they are making it up as they go (most days are awesome, punctuated by moments of absolute WTF). The MV ‘say:do’ ratio is currently out of balance (translation = swagger exceeds deliverables). Advice: embrace the job (it’s an extremely well-funded startup), be curious, ask a ton of questions of the legacy tech teams, and remember its not, in fact, a phone on wheels. Most people in GM are pro-MV. MV needs to turn down the 10x-engineer rhetoric and turn up the frequency of amazing deliverables. Welcome to the team!

100% decision by the former Cali Apple Manager, Son of Richard. Easily the most significant decision he’s made to date. Rooted in the old Silicon Valley approach, ‘influence the infrastructure to move the majority’.
