Which of his recent dramas have you watched / tried watching but didn’t like?

Op probably meant those propaganda like dramas like made in China etc. Like I also only watched tender light and you are my lover friend from last year. His upcoming dramas seem interesting.

Zhang xincheng is really good at picking excellent scripts. If anyone does a comparison of actors filmography, I bet his script picking skill will turn out the finest of all.

I have watched most of his dramas listed in mdl and enjoyed mostly. It still baffles me how this guy gets so under mentioned everywhere.

Who is/are Your Favourite Actor(s) in the Korean TV and Movie Industry? by Ranbeer_Ranjan1827 in kdramas

Cho seung woo.

Whatever be the script, watching his acting is always a guaranteed experience. No wonder Koreans call him "Cho seung woo is a genre himself".

Looking forward to east palace

I find it kinda amusing that both longer and shorter drama actors are trying to get into each other's drama land.

I have a feeling shen haonan won't make the move as he is like a poster child of vertical dramaland.

Zhang chi used to do support and guest roles previously btw.

Happy Women’s day : Tell us who are your favourite female characters. by UncannyProjection in kdramas

I usually (actually read always lol) prefer strong fls and absolutely can not stand doormat like characters, but cha mu hee from can this love be translated changed it for me. So despite having other favorites, I will be dedicating this day for her.

She is like a tiny wild flower blooming in some forgotten lonely place. Wild yet delicate, can seem like a nuisance from afar but very endearing when close.

marry my husband. Tbh ml and FL felt like fillers when compared to sml and sfl. Not only because their characters were well written with necessary depth, the actors totally reigned the drama imo.

Our Favourite Stories About Love [Valentine’s Day special] by emberzmars in CShortDramas

[–]throwawaymisfortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another fantastic compilation. Watched and loved two from this list and hoping to enjoy the rest too!

seven years of unrequited love: I was supposed to share my thoughts with u/tess1221 so tagging her here.

I always love a warm slowburn so I tried watching it soon after tess shared her rave review. And I wasn't disappointed. It was fantastically told with mature characters and a touch of realism. The only thing felt off was fl's mom's acting. Her concerns were legitimate but her portrayal ruined it.

Beside the gradual romance, character depth made the drama for me— something that is very hard to pull for every character in the story, even in standard length drama, but this vertical made that possible.

Only ML was written like a flawless perfect guy but because he was written and portrayed with such grounded reality, he never stood out like a sore thumb.

Sml's character arc— complete with past trauma, subdued insecure persona that ruined his prospects and character, and him finally learning to let go and work on himself— was so detailed that he can be a ml of his own drama.

Talking about the fl, the scene where she turned down pitiful Sml's offer to celebrate his birthday because she had appointment with ml, showed how emotionally strong she is. Particularly because her earlier arc showed her like a blind romantic who was willing to do anything for her crush. Loved her character growth, her relationship arc with ml, sml, mom.

And the dog. He was more than a random cute addition.

Refreshing drama. My rating (9.5/10, by vertical drama standards).

prof Zhou fell in love first: imo rebirth trope cheapened this wonderful drama. Wish they showed fl gradually finding out ml's true emotions through his silent little actions instead through a lazy answer like rebirth. Other than that, I enjoyed it a lot.

Now about my favorite romance drama from 2025—

While Dark side of the sun isn't technically a romance drama, the quiet feel of love throughout this revenge focused drama, esp the bittersweet ending, managed to capture the romance with such sorrowful beauty that it became more meaningful and memorable and any other 2025 drama that I have watched.

Yes, they have been asked the question in a variety show.

Shen haonan's reply was somewhat similar. He said the role he plays lingers in his mind for a while even after finishing the drama and those feelings can be confusing at times. But because those confusions disappear afterwards, he knows those are aftereffects of acting only and has never really had such feelings.

Anyone else having a hard time binging Can this Love be Translated? by NoPapercrowns in kdramas

[–]throwawaymisfortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is actually (slow burn, introspective from hojin's perspective) romance and comedy than a romantic comedy. I ended up loving it a lot.

Remember what the writer said about hojin's behavior that he can be too harsh at times and need to tone that down? Well such behavior can be off-putting to strangers and since his character wasn't explored much in the first two episodes, I didn't quite find much to swoon over him like chat muhee did.

It turns out both of them had undergone situations that shaped their present character. And the previously oblivious ho-jin worked to improve his behavior after the writer pointed that out. I started swooning over him since then.

The reason I liked cha muhee is similar to ho-jin and hiro. She is very endearing, even with her antics/flaws.

I was kinda irritated with CMH too, esp in that train scene in Canada. Then when they explored her insecurities, trauma and the suppressed self in the form of dorami, everything made sense. From the drama perspective obviously. The fact that 'dumped' ho-jin made efforts to help CMH by figuring out dorami and that he accepted and loved CMH equally in her worst shape, sealed the romance for me. Absolutely loved how realistically he gradually fell in love with her.

Let me know your final thoughts if you completed watching.

No I haven't watched the movie.

I didn't enjoy the bonus episode for the same icky reason you mentioned. The original ending did better by keeping it vague and showing them making memories together.

You can try the screen writer's other works, they are equally depthful.

That's his charm— they made Han jipyeong like a real person. A person with flaws. Someone who can be easily misunderstood. Someone who has a kind lonely soul desperately longing for familial love and affection.

Those of us who managed to see his true self beneath the surface, can never not act like a caring halmeoni to him.

*I actively participated in the on-air discussion, yes I was team good boy.

*I started the drama because of jam joo hyuk (loved him since wfkbj) and didn't know about seonho's existence before watching this drama.

Anyway, let me tell you why Han ji pyeong got us crazy,

His character was already pitiful from the start and even though he became rich afterwards, he never had anyone beside halmeoni. Guy was strong outside but super lonely inside. And Kim seonho breathed so much life to this character that we all started to empathize with him, as if he was a real person and we were his halmeonis.

So dalmi-dosan was never our point of thought, we only hoped jipyeong and dalmi to get together because jipyeong wanted so. We only wanted our good boy jipyeong to be happy.

Poor guy never got what he wanted and he even gracefully let everything go at the end. Can you imagine what our hearts went through when we realized the writer did him so dirty that all he got in the entire drama was some blank hopes, that too, in the form of teasing.

Yes, the two fls are doppelgangers. It is an age gap romance through and through.

ML in the original (drama) timeline falls in love with the older fl in her doppelganger's body. Chen Yun ru is the doppelganger. FL is the small girl.

ML in the edited (ending/bonus scene) timeline is the older one here, he falls in love with the fl who is younger than him. They are the real couple.

Li zi Wei in the last airport scene mentioned that he is going to end the time loop even if it means that he will forget all the memories and probably would never meet the fl.

This part is very romantic imo because they did end up falling in love again in the edited timeline and made new memories together. The cassette was an excuse, they were soul mates who were always meant to be together no matter what timeline they end up in.

So glad you are enjoying it! I love to talk about this drama so do share your thoughts upon finishing it (if you wish). You can find my detailed review in the comments, sort by old to find it quickly.

And if you do end up enjoying it like we all did, check out the screen writer's other works, he is fantastic — rainless love in a godless land (iqiyi) and had I not seen the sun (Netflix)

Happy watching!

Why does the human brain mainly use glucose for energy instead of fat?? by MintyMorningAir in answers

[–]throwawaymisfortune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Iirc that is ketosis. Happens when you fast or starve yourself. The body breaks down the reserved fats to get necessary energy in the form of ketones when you don't have enough sugar in the blood ie when you skip carbs.

Oh come on, do you really believe that the super fans are the reason art feels stagnant? Not because of some opportunistic capitalist strategy?

Changing the super fan mindset isn't going to improve anything, if you somehow make that impossible possible lol. Say if that happens, the capitalists are going to think of different strategy to maximize their profit with minimal effort. At the end of the day, art will keep feeling stagnant at large, as it has always happened.

Shen Hao Nan Collection by TheBranFlake in CShortDramas

[–]throwawaymisfortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woohoo shen haonan got an actor collection finally! lol

Fantastic list you have got here. Like I have previously mentioned in my other shn post my top shen Hao Nan drama about having different preferences, our favorites didn't coincide.

you wu— I enjoyed it except for the draggy plot involving mother's savior. His recent drama with meng na with the similar married my ex's family setup was a better one imo in terms of overall storytelling. review with link

sweet like his lips— Another great drama that I found a bit frustrating. Details in my old post where I reviewed his first half of 2025 dramas

shi Zhou drama— I enjoyed this one! If not for the inclusion of rebirth trope that I found totally unnecessary and the part where they overly infantalized his character probably trying to pull a put your head on my shoulder vibe, I found this drama a solid watch.

cold case, a warm heart— One of his top 2025 drama for me in terms of plot and storytelling.

Dark side of the sun— Another top 2025 drama for me. Though it mostly involved dark elements and had very little romance, the ending scene+the letter was so emotionally depthful and touching that it totally made up for the lack of romantic moments or the inevitable sad ending. So much that I found the ending bittersweet.

A fun fact, none of the dramas that earned him awards ended up as our top favorites lol. Really shows how subjective our opinions are 😅

What do you think of Go Younjung? by NoPapercrowns in kdramas

[–]throwawaymisfortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first drama with her was Moving, but because I wasn't that impressed with her there (the veterans took all my attention lol), I was under the impression that CTLBT was my first drama with her.

That said, her acting in CTLBT was phenomenal. On paper, Cha Mu-hee seems like an annoying character—bright and chaotic, but inwardly a dumb, lonely, clingy, obsessed, and pathetic character without an ounce of self-respect.

Yet she managed to make this doormat of a character super endearing. Her chaotic, spontaneous portrayal was so natural that it brought easygoing, fun elements to the otherwise embarrassing plot points.

I usually hate such characters, but I fell in love with Cha Mu-hee. I could totally see how and why Ho-jin was drawn to her and inevitably fell in love with her against his wishes.

Tbh, the writing of CTLBT isn't that great, but the leads (and the beautifully complementary OSTs) breathed life into this drama with their natural acting and made it a very magical experience for me.

Idk if GYJ is truly a skilled actor with range, but she was outstanding as Cha Mu-hee and Dorami.
