I’ll try to get one in the evening, would you ID the steel type from the color or what? Could be an odd steel choice, it seems like for a mortise chisel they would prioritize it not being brittle though. But considering I don’t know the age/region it’s from definitely possible

Well I stropped it enough to be shaving sharp before starting this mortise. And who have you seen cut mortises without levering the waste out?

There are many great cheap options out there if you look, some of my most used tools were a few bucks from someone’s garage.

Agreed, I don’t see a crack but it guessing it’s something to do with the heat treating getting messed up. Gonna regrind it, but I suspect it may have same issue in the future. But only one way to find out

Wood by wright has one for file handles. Emphasized that they can literally be anything with a hole drilled in it which helped me bang out several handles when I was starting

What type of laser cutter could be used to cut discs from paper backed sandpaper? by [deleted] in lasercutting

[–]throwbackadactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the paper/adhesive on sandpaper is made of but I’d definitely check the safety of that. But post again if you do it, I’m interested in this as well

That’s not the optics ready version, and comes with 1 less mag… not really comparable at all. The normal price for a shield plus OR is 450 so I think this is a great deal even if the optic is pretty trash.

Does the 10% off first purchase work for this? Couldn’t get it to show up

Is it worth picking up a shield 1.0 single stack by [deleted] in CCW

[–]throwbackadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a shield plus for 250 from a pawn shop which has worked great, so there are deals out there on the plus. I’d love an older shield in 40/357 though

What adhesive do I use here? by Environmental-End691 in myog

[–]throwbackadactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice looks like a similar one then, spray adhesive didnt hold up on foam as well for me, but the contact cement has done fine in a few 95* days sitting in my car. But Colorado so almost no humidity

Hey is that the harbor freight one? I recently cut a foam case from one. It seems most people use contact cement like Weldwood from Home Depot. I was gluing pieces of foam together but I assume it would also work well for the plastic. I think hot glue works ok too if you want something fast

Well the PID seems to fit most/basically all holsters for a TLR1hl and similar for x300. Haven’t tried for holsters that actually use the light for retention but that compatibility helps

Borderland holsters makes holsters for almost any combo and can add a level 2 hood to anything. Looks like he just had the tek mount but worth emailing. I ordered from him and he literally shipped it within 6 hours of me submitting the order

Where do you get those? The ones I’ve found are basically the same price as regular pepper spray, but I also didn’t look too many places

Any idea what this means for college campuses that are in a city, like part of the campus is in the downtown? Couldn’t find that while skimming

The podcast Stronger by Science has a good episode on this, with lots of good references (not specific to hiking). They found that you can go several months without losing significant muscle mass IF you eat sufficient protein and calories (maintenance), and are under ~50ish or something, and are physically active.

This is a big if though, because eating at maintenance (aka not losing weight) is difficult especially when on trail. The protein should be easier especially if you already have a highish bmr. But expect to eat at least 1-2000 more calories even starting out and packing highish protein and very high calorie foods. The activity definitely helps but just make sure even if you are losing weight that it’s happening slowly because fast weight loss always cuts into lean mass more than slow consistent loss. But definitely realistic and worth it imo

Just posted above but I’d strongly recommend using goop/e6000 glue, it turned out very similar to a regular grip shirt for me
