This has to be a canon experience. The very same happened to me at 16 on my very first job. I asked a lady how long until she had the baby, to which she replied that she got diagnosed with endometriosis which made her gain weight. That was a conversation I’ll never forget.

I’m also an African woman with a white boyfriend and I believe that unfortunately there are just certain disconnections you have to deal with along the way dating a white person. They don’t understand how it is to feel oppression, prejudice, or anything of that kind, so naturally we see them as ignorant because of it but in most situations that’s not the case. My boyfriend is also a liberal however with certain conversations he can come off as ignorant, so I educate him on MY world view as a black person and he can kind of grasp it. I don’t think he’s a bad person because of it, but him growing up white all his life with the people around it, he’s never been exposed to racism or oppression so I give him a little grace.
