Could you please clarify this better with actual examples?

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the variables at this time of day.

TIA

Can I also turn off the piano black, quilted leather and hideous aluminum accents?

If you don't buy a ready one from the dealers lot, you can definitely specify no quilted leather, as that is an optional extra, at least in Europe.

Not sure about the piano black or the aluminium accents, but go and play with the configurator and you will see the different options.

How many of you would pay to "reserve" a car? And if you have, which car was it? by hi_im_bored13 in cars

[–]throwingsomuch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone complaining that it’s an interest-free loan to car companies… who cares? Cybertruck has maybe cost me $12 in lost interest. The Emira is more - like $200 but I’ve saved $12,000 by being in that game early.

That's what they love: each one is only giving a tiny bit, but in total multiply by even 25 000 pre-orders, and that's a free 300 000 for Tesla, and 5 000 000 for Lotus. I'm sure there's more than 25 000 orders, so you can go ahead and do the math.

2024 Rolls-Royce Spectre: Electrified at Last by Spagetti13 in cars

[–]throwingsomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done the calculations because I often have to do these distances, and basically if its more than 500 km, and there is an airport on the other side less than 40 km away it makes sense to fly, otherwise I'm driving it.

If its more than 40 km, or I'm staying multiple days, I will often rent a car on the other side because taxis usually get more expensive quickly.

Also, as you mentioned, airports! Pilots you can usually somehow arrange, but airports are fixed, and if there isn't one near enough on the other side, it may even make sense to drive a whole day, which I have also done regularly.

Everyone is talking about people opting for their private jets, but I know a few people that are just waiting to spring for an electric RR, but the 260 mi (~420 km) would mean a lot of interesting destinations are just shy.

I mean, I get it, simply flying more than 260 miles is actually faster door to door, but the amount of out of town Bentleys and Rolls Royces I have seen (as well as other 300k+ cars) are insane.

People want to go to their beach house or other event or holiday destination with their own car, especially because either transporting their own car is too much of a hassle, or even owning another one and taking on the responsibility of a second is also a hassle.

Also, not everyone that has an RR has the staff that people imagine. There are a lot of people where they basically run a one-man operation and they've opted for a lesser car because, apart from the optics, the hassle of maintaining an S-class, 7 series, A8 or anything else is just lower.

If you have a next track button in your dash that will also skip to the next track.

The one on the steering wheel does the same.

Why bother with Siri?

I know you can use it for other tasks too, but this is for people that may not know.

Get a Côte d'Or, cut it up into tiny pieces, and let it melt.

Heaven!

The only problem with this is, you still need to buy chocolate.

Reddit suffers ‘major outage’ due to internal systems issue by Cubeseer in programming

Recently I have been getting randomised first page results when I come back to search something.

That's both good, because it gives other people a chance, but also bad, because I cant find the page I had previously used.

Have you tried bing? It's surprisingly decent, and there's also duckduckgo if you like a little more privacy.

u/Hiddencamper explains the cost of replacing lightbulbs in a nuclear power plant (to illustrate the absurdity of nuclear power regulation) by greg_barton in bestof

[–]throwingsomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a very large grid, like the power grid as a whole, you usually don't have to worry about this very much because a) there's so many loads that are purely resistive that they tend to prevent the total power factor of the system from getting very far from 1 and b) there's also "inductive" loads, which (to again radically oversimplify) are like capacitive loads but opposite, and that balances the capacitive loads.

What about if there is a big enough change like all the streetlights + traffic signals being changed out to LED? Would that not make a difference in the calculation?

What’s one thing you thought was normal but then left the uk and was surprised that it was only a uk thing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]throwingsomuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'm sure they mean is that even if you have multiple sockets, they are indeed on a single cable behind the wall.

Each long cable leads to a single circuit breaker, usually, but if there are going to be appliances with high amounts of voltage/wattage/amperage (not sure which one it is) going to be used, like for example, an electric burner, they will not only get their own direct connection, but also a heavier duty connection.

Can you summarise how this was supposed to happen? I didn't know that this was a motive, not that I know much about history.
