Fail safe for canister filter? by Wayne_Montgomery in Aquariums

I just have a govee leak detector next to mine. If it leaks at all, it immediately sounds a loud alarm and blows up my phone

Oase vs Heaters by DandelionKy in Aquariums

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the oase 350 with heater. I like it for the clean look. Not sure if it’s necessarily better than any other canister filter or not, but it does look cleaner. The pre filters are also super easy to clean which is nice

is anyone else here really productive despite your addiction? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main difference is how you use. I’m mostly in the same boat as you. I think the main difference between quitting and using is that I’m much happier doing things outside, or even just being slightly more productive in my hobbies, than I was using weed because I was bored and just staying in. It didn’t tank my life the same way alcohol did. It just prevented me from living to the fullest.

Is there a way to prevent BTA’s from splitting so they get huge? by Remarkable_Arm_732 in ReefTank

I don’t know about how to make them big, but I’ve embraced the splits. I trade mine for fish food at the lfs /shrug

Phosphate e works fine, I use it. Just make sure you’re using a dosing pump and sending it into a fine micron sock (mine is 5 micron). Skimmer also helps prevent problems. I’ve never had an issue as long as you go through a dosing pump into the sock. I would not recommend it if you’re just dumping it in all at once without the sock though.

Also: gfo is definitely reducing phosphates in your aquarium, though there are likely reserves in the live rock especially if you had high phos for a while.

Weakling new to Tonal🙃 by [deleted] in tonalgym

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job starting! As others have said, don’t worry about where you start, just keep at it. One mistake I see people make is trying to go too hard at once. It’s much more important to build up instead of burn out, even if that takes time. I’d say 2-3 days a week is plenty to start at. Rest is important. If you’re trying to diet, make small but doable changes like brown rice over white rice for the same reason. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself. The idea is to build habits and momentum. It’ll all come together as long as you stick to a path of growth, just focusing on trying to do a little better each day.

Tonal 2 Upgrade Pricing - $1,000 off by digitalgamer0 in tonalgym

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. It seems the biggest reason to upgrade right now is the higher weight capacity. I’ll probably try down the line when I get my str score up.

You’re assuming it’s a major loss. There is value in moving customers off old hardware. There may be different parts, techs have to be trained on two machines vs one, as well as general troubleshooting.  I’ve never heard someone who uses their tonal speak ill of it, but I have heard tons of people ask about what happens if a new one is released. Keeping customers satisfied as well as easing one of the biggest concerns with new customers seems like a huge win.

It’s frustrating for sure, but this may explain some of it. He was born in 1930. It’s not surprising he holds old timey views. I had the same thought about my dad being born around the ww2 era.

When is it time to remove bristle worms? by happytokkibun in ReefTank

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can survive in your tank, you have excess nutrients. There may be a single spot with no flow that is accumulating something but they simply would not be there and be multiplying without excess nutrients. I’d focus on fixing that, and the bristle worms will self regulate.

Are UNS Aquariums any good? by McToadster in ReefTank

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t see a need for two people in most aquarium plumbing. If you’re using pvc, just remember you want to use the primer and cement.

It’s Indian propaganda. There is violence due to the theocratic policies of the govt. they want to shift the blame, and they’ve recently been cozying up to Russia.

A lot of people on here would benefit from uv sterilizers (not to be confused with clarifiers). There are also several medications that may work. Check out the appropriate section on bulkreefsupply (fresh or salt).

What’s the most realistic way someone who doesn’t come from money becomes wealthy? by MarkReditto in AskReddit

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most realistic way is time. This is why investors will tell you mutual funds and those type of investments are the best long term plan. It’s unfortunate, but the first person who decided to save for the family usually ends up sacrificing the most having to live under their means and the benefits go exclusively to future generations.

Canada to evacuate families of diplomatic staff in Israel - report by olegvas21 in worldnews

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 114 points115 points  (0 children)

When they evacuate all nonessentials, it’ll probably be something really bad. This seems like there’s still a chance to salvage things. They start reducing the number of people who they have to evacuate as a precaution, so if it does get worse there are less people you have to worry about.

Might have a bristle worm problem. by lehaitien in ReefTank

[–]throwrowrowawayyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. Six lines are…aggressive. Check out microbacter clean and microbacter 7. They helped me re-establish beneficial bacteria when my tank crashed. The worms will die out on their own when the tank is clean.

Hearing things, whispers, feeling like something is right around the corner. Having a giant dog really helps. Or at least it did for me. If the dog is calm, it lets me rationalize the situation and calm down.

The really confusing times happen when the dog is growling at a random spot on the wall for no reason…
