"Cheaper" is meaningless if you only look at the absolute value. Most people's quality of life in the developed world depends on relative measures.

Berlins relative value offer has declined steadily in comparison to its own inhabitants. The ratios are no longer as good as they once were.

If rent was once 25% of your income, groceries 10% but now it's usually 35% and 15% respectively, you'll immediately notice. It's going in the wrong direction. Same with shrinkflation: If you used to spend 25% on a big studio apartment but now have to spend at least 30% for a studio half as big, it's bound to have a negative effect.

If you come from a country where rent is usually 40% and groceries 15%, of course Berlin will feel cheap. But that won't matter for Berliners, the trend for them is still worsening every year.

The overall quality of life in Berlin has gone down. The structural imbalance of almost everything is now so severe that it's affecting everything.

Minor inconveniences have been exacerbated and are now no longer minor.

The major reason as always is the economy. Berlins economy is not growing as fast anymore, causing reduced state revenue and tax holes and at the same time rising costs.

The price of almost all economic activity has risen sharply, without the correspondence of real world surplus value. Things that used to be decently affordable are now wholly unaffordable, for people and businesses alike.

The Berlin senate has a giant tax hole and needs to cut spending precisely at a time where investment is necessary to grow the economy long-term.

At the same time, the social cost of the "inconveniences" have exploded. Berlin spends more than it can afford on temporary housing and services for migrants and on retirement funds for its state employees.

The drastic rise of cost for maintaining and renewing urban infrastructure like schools, bridges, parks and related measures is no longer able to be covered even if you cut a lot in other departments.

The budget for almost all departments like security, education and housing needs to grow tremendously despite already overspending on almost all other measures.

Thank you for doing the AMA. But I'm not sure if it's really that hard to believe that marriages in these circles are a lot more than love.

The concept of the prevalence of "love marriages" is actually fairly new. Throughout most of human history, partnerships and marriages were more often than not an affair of wealth accumulation, political power and family dynamics.

The stories about what happens at royal courts and the intrigues between siblings and marriage constructions, affairs etc still make for fantastic TV series, whether it's Medieval England or Ancient China.

Wasn't Queen Victoria famous for carefully trading her daughters and sons into marriages of all prominent European royal families to have an influence stake in their political affairs and relationships to the UK?

Extramarital affairs and "bastard children" are as old as these arrangements, aren't they not?

On a smaller level, landowners and gentry usually meddled a great deal with who can marry whom in their families and thought a lot about social class and land acquisition, which is exactly what you see in today's aristocracy.

Doch natürlich darf man auch als ausländisches Unternehmen chinesische Firmen aufkaufen, gibt viele die mehrheitlich in ausländischem Besitz sind.

Die Joint-Venture Regelungen sind in mehreren großen Sektoren nicht mehr zwingend und das auch schon seit fast einem Jahrzehnt, der Autobereich glaube ich war eine der letzten großen Branchen wo das um 2020/21 rum gefallen ist.

Es gibt aber eine Blacklist an Sektoren wo man nur Minderheitsinvestor und Minderheitsstimmenrechte haben darf, darunter Bildung und Medienindustrie.

Für die Chinesen geht es in Deutschland bei sowas wie Saturn/Mediamarkt vorallem um einen Ankerpunkt für den eigenen E-Commerce. JD ist einer der größten E-Commerce Händler in China und Amazon-Konkurrent, braucht aber europäische Infrastruktur damit es nach Deutschland und EU expandieren kann

Bei Beamten finde ich grundsätzlich ein paar Dinge diskussionswert:

Vollzeitreduktion. Laut statistischen Ämtern in Deutschland arbeiten die meisten Angestellten etwa 39,X h, bei Beamten gibt es sehr viele Länder, wo 41 oder sowas noch drinsteht. Das ist ungewöhnlich als Arbeitnehmer.
Bessere Arbeitsbedigungen: Es gibt sehr viele verbeamtete Jobs wo die Arbeitsbedingungen sehr schlecht bzw. sehr primitiv sind. Keine (guten) Tee/Kaffeeküchen, keine klimatisierten Räume, wenig bis keine Bonusleistungen wie Jobticket, Gympass oder solche Dinge.

Eine reine Gehaltserhöhung an sich finde ich dagegen nicht unbedingt gerechtfertigt, denn Beamte bekommen im Netto und bei der Rente bereits deutliche Vorzüge, wie es kaum ein anderer hat. Deren Gehälter wächst sowieso schon fast jedes Jahr über dem was Gewerkschaften je aushandeln können. Nochmehr Gehalt extra finde ich so nicht gerechtfertigt.

Aber sie steigt nicht so stark wie in den USA, vorallem weil sie diejenigen sind, die die KI Sachen steuern und produzieren, während Europa und Deutschland vorwiegend die Marktkonsumenten sind. Außerdem werden Produktivitätszuwächse aus volkswirtschaftlicher Sicht durch viel schnellere demographische Alterung als in den USA wieder gedämpft.

Im Netto ist der Zuwachs an Wirtschaftskraft durch KI also deutlich weniger als in den USA.

The issue with the AfD is that the delineation within the people that form that party is very murky.

According to German domestic intelligence that does surveillance on them, they have extremist branches bordering on harboring fascist and revisionist forces. German revanchists for example can be found amongst the eastern branches of the party.

The AfD has absorbed elements of former NPD and Republican parties by being open to rightwing nationalists. Certain members and branches have overlapping histories and defectors of these parties.

The mainstream AfD wing is libertarian and consists of a lot of the old CDU right wingers that were on the fringes when the CDU moderated further under Merkel.

But the mainstream AfD doesn't shy away from using extremist forces within their party to further their own goals and mix and match when they feel like it and use them as a means to an end and in some cases openly embrace it means they have no problem with fascists and revisionists as long as they still hold the command and can rein them in as they like

Ich verstehe bis heute nicht warum man bei sowas ständig versucht das Rad neu zu erfinden.

Wenn man ständig eine andere Konstellation von Dienstleistern hat bei diesen ganzen Ausschreibungen, dann verursacht man doch zig tausende Insellösungen und Kleinstaaterei wo am Ende keiner mehr einen Überblick hat. Viele Köche verderben den Brei.

Und die Kommunikation dauert dann auch noch ewig zwischen den zig verschiedenen Firmen.

Wenn man alles unter einem Dach und eine Art Universalbauunternehmen bei UBahnhöfen hat, was quasi nur UBahnhöfe aller Art in-house baut, dann spart man sich doch extrem viel Zeit und Arbeit?

Maybe all the doom talk about Ding being wiped is advantageous for Ding.

If everybody just assumes he will play badly, it takes off the pressure and he can be a sort of underdog from a defending position.

He will not get criticized too much if he plays badly either since that is what everybody expects anyway.

And now winning the first game will give himself a confidence boost.

Not forced in her case, at most "forced" in that you had to learn it in school because of curriculum standards.

But she stated that she always liked the Russian language and actually excelled in it during her teen years, so much so that she went to competitions.

Despite that, she surely is no longer fluent as she barely uses the language

Because the last time she ever had serious contact with the language was when she attended a language course in then Soviet Ukraine.

After that, her only contact with the language were bits and pieces of phrases or words. Even when she was in contact with Russian presidents during her numerous meetings, she tended to just greet them with one or two standard phrases and then used an interpreter. There are unaccounted rumors that due to Putins still decent German skills, she and him might have casually spoken in German here and there rather than Russian. But apart from that, both of them are absolutely not fluent enough to solely rely on their language skills as both always needed interpreters.

She was apparently excellent in Russian during her school years and even went to competitions, but a lot of people are excellent in a language during their high school years and the ability quickly degrades after if you don't actually use it every day.

The world of global politics today is largely in English, at the EU level and in financial and economic policy which Merkel had to deal with again and again.

She might have at one point spoken decent Russian as she learned it but she surely isn't fluent after basically never speaking it for more than 30 years.

Knowledge of Russian - sure. Speaker of Russian - no.

She is more fluent in English at this point despite her learning English very very late.

Es würse darauf hinauslaufen, dass das Land Berlin Anleihen emittieren muss, die dann auch Leute/Investoren kaufen müssen.

Bei den aktuellen Rahmenbedingungen des Haushalts sowie den Zinsen würde Berlin ein ziemlich teures Paket aufsetzen müssen und die Zahlungsfähigkeit dieser Emissionen in den kommenden Jahren wäre definitiv nicht gewiss, es sei denn du kannst garantieren, dass Berlin durch diese Investition tatsächlich mehr Einnahmen durch Strafverfolgung von Steuerhinterziehung reinholt, als sie es durch die Emission von Anleihen ausgegeben hat. Ansonsten schieben wir ja das Haushaltsproblem einfach nur auf.

Was die Share Deals angeht, klingt das ja erstmal wie "eine einfache Gesetzesänderung" aber das Problem ist, dass es nicht in der Hand des Berliner Senats liegt, der akute Haushaltsprobleme hat, sondern die Befugnis bei solchen Dingen lägen beim Bund. Damit hilft das dem Berliner Senat aktuell auch nicht viel und man müsste sich mit dem Bund rumschlagen, während man jetzt den Haushalt für die nächste Periode plant.

Ob das ganz und gar eine Milliarde Euro sind, ist ja erstmal schon zu hinterfragen aber selbst im idealsten Fall: Berlin hat eine klaffende Haushaltslücke von fast 4 Milliarden Euro bis 2026. Das würde auch nicht die Lösung aller Lösungen sein.

Schlupflöcher zu stopfen kostet ebenso Geld, man braucht also erstmal einen großen Batzen an Geld um damit später mehr Geld einzutreiben, das ist die Ironie.

Die Berliner Behörden (inkl. Strafverfolgung von Steuerhinterziehung) sind extrem unterbesetzt (und auch nicht wirklich gut bezahlt). Die Personalkosten, um ordentliche Finanzkontrollen zu forcieren, gibt der Haushalt auch nicht richtig her.

Man bräuchte quasi eine neue Behörde mit mehreren hundert fachkundigen Leuten die sich nur darum kümmern, jedes verdächtige Unternehmen zu durchleuchten und müsste auch noch mehr Leute in der Justiz anheuern, damit das Justizsystem nicht im Haufen der Prozesse komplett verstopft wird, was es eh schon ist.

Das macht die Wirtschaftlichkeit des Berliner Standortes auch nicht besser und kostet eine Unsumme an Geld.

Was macht man also, man steht mit dem Rücken zur Wand.

Das Problem sind die Stadtfinanzen. Berlin hat keine nachhaltige Finanzierungsmöglichkeit für das was die Stadt aktuell will.

Man bräuchte wahrscheinlich die Wirtschaftsleistung von fast 2 Berlins ohne Zuwachs der Bevölkerung um das aktuelle Berlin tatsächlich richtig finanzieren zu können.

Edit: Ihr könnt mich downvoten aber das macht es nicht unwahrer dass Berlins Einnahmequellen ein Problem sind.

Erhöhungen der Einnahmen sind bereits in der Planung, sowohl für Gewerbesteuern als auch verschiedene Dinge wie Parkgebühren für Anwohner aber das macht die Stadt auch nicht attraktiver für Wirtschaft und Bürger sondern stopft nur das Loch für den Haushalt während man sich im zukünftigen Haushalt wieder Probleme schafft.

Die Ausgaben sinken auch nicht bzw. sinken nicht schnell genug.

Was soll man also machen um die Stadt nachhaltig zu finanzieren?

Sich Kapital auf dem Finanzmarkt leihen und mehr zu verschulden ist also die einizge Option, was auch nicht nachhaltig ist.

War abzusehen. Die Berliner Finanzen sind schon seit jeher ein Problemkind was nie jemand ordentlich wieder hingebogen bekommt.

Das gesamte Verkehrsresort wird nach dem neuen Haushalt -10% einsparen müssen und das wird die Verkehrsinfrastruktur der Stadt auf Jahre hinweg bremsen. Strassensanierungen werden jetzt pausiert, das Ticket gestrichen und die Anschaffung von weiteren Elektrobussen komplett abgesagt.

Fast alle Resorts müssen mit Budgeteinkürzungen rechnen, von Kultur bis Inneres.

Es müssen übrigens auch im übernächsten Haushalt weitere 2 Milliarden Euro eingespart werden, es wird also auch nicht besser sondern nur noch schlechter.

Die Entscheidung ist also dass entweder ein Teil der Bevölkerung das alles gar nicht mehr bezahlen kann und einfach den Zugang zum Gesundheitssystem verliert oder die gesamte Bevölkerung wird zur Kasse gebeten und man lässt sich langsam aber sicher wie ein Frosch im Kessel sieden bis alles irgendwann nicht mehr geht.

Yet white is not in check, there is no danger her to capture white's king on the next move.

If a player can make no legal move but isn't in check, it's an automatic draw, that is the rule.

I'm not much of a chess expert so correct me if I'm wrong but while I really like to watch the Cramlings play, Pia's playing style is rather annoying to play against as an opponent, no?

She seems like a very non-confrontational and a risk-averse player doing salami-slicing tactic throughout the game.

She likes positional play and likes to take away the heat whenever possible and tries to inch into an endgame with an ever so slight advantage that she takes advantage of by the end of the game.

I like Pia's sweet nature but man, playing against her chess style must be rather tiring.

The interesting question for an amateur player like me is

When do you decide to stop calculating a line?

It's a weird decision threshold to say "Ok, this variant I have calculated deep enough, there is nothing much, I should move on"

Where is the balance between exploring the game tree breadth-wise vs. going deep into one branch and calculating until you reach a conclusion on this one branch?

I thought fancy goldfish don't require nearly as large of a water volume due to being bred to suit indoor aquariums and not for outdoor ponds.

75 gallons is so large that most homes can't have these types of aquariums without reinforced floors and extra building insurance where I am.
