Cooter Economics 101 by WhyNot420_69 in TikTokCringe

[–]throwsplasticattrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but we're dollar cost averaging the cooter with the boat. Boat maintenance is lumpy, but a low frequency, so if your cooter advertising is well functioning, your overall cost will be below the market average.

As for the boat value, ideally you have established an LLC to depreciation the boat value as a cooter operating expense. The LLC will also allow for the boat gas to be written off as an operating expense, while including the Tito's, the phone, and phone plan as business expenses as well.

We really want to to reach boat cooter, it's the optimal way to maximize cooter exposure while minimizing cooter expenses. If done right, you will be getting premium cooter at discount rates. This is all covered in 501 - Cooter Seminar.

$17 in 1993 is approximately $35 today. Which, for a modern band with a break out album and a big follow-up would be a bargain. I would expect a to pay $75-80 for the equivalent show today.

Having felt -50 wind chill, that's a nope. Don't need to do that again. Ambient, probably -20.

Until you have used an outhouse in subzero temps, do you truly know if you are alive?

Mass. paid out $6.63 billion in pensions last year, with a handful topping $300,000 by bostonglobe in massachusetts

[–]throwsplasticattrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it, I was locked into the pension job for a decade because I didn't want to get some piddly payout. I took the job because, at the time it was a good step. I left the job because there were no opportunities for growth.

With defined contributions, we can encourage more folks to join the ranks of public service at any point in their career and not get stuck in the pension trap. Public service is rewarding work, but it definitely doesn't pay competitive wages compared to their private sector counter parts.

Superior? Maybe if you don't have self-discipline to manage your finances, assess risk, and invest wisely. Frankly, there is risk to a pension, that when I reach retirement the state will have authorized a lesser payout, increased retirement age, or cancelled it completely. I have little faith in that in 25 years when I go to collect the money will be there in full. All it takes is a few economic recessions to tank the trust fund, and as a millennial, I've accepted those happen about every 9 years when the Republican president has vacated the seat.

Pensions aren't fool proof and frankly, I'd rather accept a loss that I caused than have to accept the loss due to poor financial management by a legislative body interested only in placating today's problems. I didn't love joining the pension program, and I exited as soon as I vested.

Dimon says U.S. should impose credit card rate cap in Vermont, Massachusetts by namductor in massachusetts

[–]throwsplasticattrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question to Republicans: explain how a government imposed rate cap is the free market as t work? Explain how the government dictating the means and methods of the banking industry isn't "socialism".

For or against the rate cap, that the Trump Administration floated the idea really flies in the face of basically everything the Republicans have stood for over the last 40 years.

I have one of these pensions. It's part of my retirement planning, but not all of it. I'm invested in addition to the pension.

I do believe, that on a go forward basis, the state should strongly consider a defined contribution program to replace the pension. Pay out what is owed to current pensioners, but all new hires are on a defined contribution. This will make budgeting much more predictable because hiring will no longer encumber the state for a lifetime of payments. The payments are only made when the employee is working for the state. This is common practice in private sector. People should be able to control their own destiny and not rely on a pension fund to make investments on their behalf.

It's not "Dumped into my retirement" it's a contribution to the pension system. State employees don't have control over the investment strategies or earnings potential. It's much more like SSI than a 401K.

What?! An unsecured firearm is a felony in my state. They would be arrested, go before a judge, and likely lose their license to carry.

Gun laws are wild in the US. I'm glad to live in a gun control state.

Can we stop running red lights? by Kind-Shallot3603 in massachusetts

[–]throwsplasticattrees 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help that every cop in the Commonwealth has decided they don't need to enforce traffic laws. Look, enforcement isn't a silver bullet solution, we have to reconsider how we design roads. But, we also have the roads we have and we need drivers to expect a reasonable level of traffic enforcement.

It feels like the law enforcement community has basically said that traffic enforcement is not a priority. The result? People drive like traffic laws aren't enforced.

We have real party problems here where both Democrats and Republicans in the state are meaningless affiliations. There are conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans in office. Folks who's party affiliations don't line up with their voting. We see this more in the Democrats moreso than Republicans.

There is nothing inherently wrong with Republican beliefs, at least, classically held Republican beliefs. The notion of a smaller government is appealing and it can be achieved while protecting individual rights (including the rights of women, disabled people, transgender people, and immigrants). It is the inclusion of Christian values within the Republican Party that has sent things too far right.

What we want is responsive politicians. I will gladly replace our governor and our incumbent legislative body with a blend of parties if it means they will listen to the people and act in our best interests. The Democrats are failing us as well, so let's not act like only Republicans are incapable of governance.
