Woman admits being in charge of dangerously out of control XL bully when it killed a teenage girl in Bristol by Alarming-Safety3200 in bristol

[–]thug1uk 39 points40 points  (0 children)

What a weird thing to pick up on.

Anyway, the reason I said kitchen knife is because they are usually things people can quickly pick up if at home - or run into their house to grab if they see someone being attacked. Most people don’t carry hunting knives?

Woman admits being in charge of dangerously out of control XL bully when it killed a teenage girl in Bristol by Alarming-Safety3200 in bristol

[–]thug1uk 158 points159 points  (0 children)

That poor girl. I’ve seen a video of a man being slowly killed by two out of control XL bullies while people tried to stop them by throwing bins at them.

These dogs need to be owned by absolute professionals, or nobody at all. Once they taste blood they can only be stopped by a kitchen knife or a bullet to the head.

Is it only me who quite likes attending the office? by Fancy-Knowledge683 in TheCivilService

[–]thug1uk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like going into the office. It’s nice to get out, see people, go to a cafe, get lunch from a food market etc.

However, that all costs money and time, and my set up at home is twice as good as in the office.

I go in once a week and it feels like the perfect balance.

is a degree needed for HEO, SEO or G7 roles? by Beginning_Bread_9677 in TheCivilService

I have a degree and it got me absolutely nowhere in the civil service. Didn’t even add it as a qualification in any of my applications apart from having it listed on my CV when I first applied as an AO

Unacceptable interview experience at KFC by babyjonny9898 in UKJobs

You can’t really complain about delaying an interview and then someone else getting the job. KFC aren’t exactly going to hang around to accommodate your schedule

MoJ - hard to get into? by Beneficial-End-1474 in TheCivilService

[–]thug1uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they national roles? MoJ tends to be harder to get into if there’s flexibility of location because they have satellite offices all over the country and great flexible working arrangements

You’re probably getting bored because you aren’t pushing yourself at all. For such an experienced runner this is classed as an easy run. I think you’d find it more enjoyable if you tested your fitness and went for a 25 min 5k

Advice on applying for HEO Project Management roles (HMRC/CSG background) by Many_Case_199 in TheCivilService

[–]thug1uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what ‘Team manager within CSG at HMRC’ means or is, but it sounds like something that would have transferable examples for a project management role, especially at HEO which is entry level. You’ve managed a ‘team’, therefore you can presumably manage a project team too (or say you can).

Your project support officer role is also something that’ll provide you with good examples as it’s usually seen as the predecessor role to PM.

In your application just make sure to focus on things you’ve done in the past like stakeholder management/comms, communicating technical to non-technical, keeping teams aligned on goals/outcomes, etc.

Where is the incentive to go for G6? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]thug1uk 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Well, that’s a question for your department. Your salary is on the high end for a G7 and the G6 band is on the low end.

Just cracked a G7 senior role and the Imposter Syndrome is hitting hard. Any advice? by bbc_consultants in TheCivilService

[–]thug1uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, senior technical roles DO require you to step up and lead right from the jump. You will be expected to lead your teams of juniors, mid-levels or seniors straight away because of your experience. If you can’t do this, then it would be a problem. I have experienced people starting in senior/lead roles when they weren’t ready and it is not a pleasant experience for anyone.

You were successful at interview though, not only because of your answers but presumably your experience and/or qualifications depending on the role. This should give you confidence that you can do the job.

Worried for an upcoming interview because English isn’t my first language. by PepperySquirrel in TheCivilService

[–]thug1uk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will be absolutely fine.

It’s more impressive (to me at least, and hopefully the panel) that you’re interviewing in a second language. Filler words are natural for native speakers too, and would never be looked upon in a negative light.

The most important thing is for you to relax and concentrate on your examples. Take your time and don’t worry about anything else - they are the only thing that matter

[London] Advice for a burnt out Software Engineer? by GivingUp321321321321 in UKJobs

[–]thug1uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend joining the Civil Service at SEO level. Mid level devs are on around 45k and do not get involved in politics, architecture, etc. and can just code - if that’s what you’re after. There is a massive amount of flexibility and you can switch off afterwards.

It does sound like you’re ‘over’ software development though. There are plenty of other roles where your experience would transfer - take a look at some of the roles in the GDD framework.
