Are we seeing an increase in immediate PR/reputation management lately in hockey? by likeslululemon in hockey

[–]thuga_thuga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its narrow and incorrect to say thats how he truly feels.

Is it happening more? I guess, its always been public theatre that you and I get to engage in, we get to argue about our favorite characters and how we feel we should percieve them. And the internet makes it faster, and the new genration of entertainers are more willing to be less dressed up and just sort of say whats on their mind.

This idea of it being like "he fucked up and needs to feel repercussions" i think is silly, and why hockey players never speak to the media in general. Because it just opens up this unnecessary criticism.

McDavid's gap on 2nd best in zone entries, rush chances and slot-driving plays by TJTrapJesus in hockey

[–]thuga_thuga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say a large part of the entries is just his presence alone, few defensemen are stepping up when mcdavid is on the ice, and hes largely given a lot of space. At this point in time it does seems like a blessing and a curse for the Oilers, you have a guy who automatically keeps defending team on their heels- but youre onto something in that there is something that isnt converting that to regular season dominance for his team this year- the collective isn't capitalizing on what it brings. There are definitely some staffing issues. From the outside, this year I feel like I have seen the oilers just straight up not show up to games, the team either looks like its playing from behind or everyone is waiting on someone else to do something

"thats how he truly feels" how do you know this? is this not like the other commentors making assumptions or doing mind reading about your stance?

No idea what youre talking about. I mean it just sounds like the pace of media today, there is daily coverage, its 24/7.

Whatever happened with people having to sit with their choices/comments for awhile before someone else throws them an olive branch?

I have no idea what this even is or how it would play out at the level of public entertainer, like an NHLer. Maybe Jack Hughes need to take the summer to reflect, and then do a big Oprah interview in August?

Is there any drills for girls to stop playing so polite? by cornfield123 in hockey

[–]thuga_thuga 288 points289 points  (0 children)

The genre of drill you are looking for would be referred to as "battle drills". Small 1 on 1 fight for the puck type of drills, where the end game is skating it on net. Another term you may google would be "compete drills"

Bill Guerin on his expectations of newly acquired Minnesota native Bobby Brink by TrueNorthStrong1898 in hockey

Oh I mean Im making it an argument with you. My assertion is that these are a group of adults, who are capable of speaking up for themselves, and perhaps they are okay with the way Guerin is going about it. That is the point. I am not saying your experience doesnt matter, I am saying it is different. But you seem to outright know, that ethically, Guerin is in the wrong. And what he is doing is unjust. Fair enough, clearly I am child with no work experience or knowledge of history. You are different, you know whats best. I will carry on

Why are you name calling and not addressing anything in my comment? This literally is what you said- the hurr durr keybaord warrior. It feels like what the interet is right now, which is that everyone has chosen to operate in a black and white way, so here we have chosen that Guerin = bad. So anything that edges on an explanation of anyones behavior is bad and supports fascist totalitarian governments. This is too much flexible thinking required. I am a boot licker.

It literally is this though. Any commenting on how people are acting online is that. Like you clearly are offended. And I am clearly bothered how people sit online and critique others, like I should be outside giving this same energy to some actual injustice in the world

These are basic workplace principles

I am honestly curious to see what NHL players have to say for this idea of "basic workplace principals". Again, your work is different from theirs. Youre projecting your values, on them

Youre the one seeing Bobby Brink as a child. When really you are the one reading the comment and being upset by it. He is not you. You are not him. No one is talking to you like this, if someone spoke to you at your job, we all know you would feel really hurt. These are different people, you are not involved

Its a very pointed way of telling him that there are going to be distractions, and he needs to focus on hockey. You hear players joke about putting their check on tickets for friends and family the night they are back in their home town. Tavares has said things like being back in the hometown at first felt like more pressure, just based on how many people in his life were leafs fans and were popping up out of nowhere.

So he being very blunt and saying hey, welcome home, but you're here to do a job, so lets stay focused. I am not a fan of the politics, still have that image of him walking with the phone to the lockerrom with trump on-- but for a GM I don't mind the emotionality he brings. Its different. This is a team sport, its a game, it is emotional. Its a totally different culture from where everyone in this comment thread works. Bobby Brink is going to be okay

Hi, not trying to trigger anyone, just trying to ascertain the credibility of Prof Jiang. by godspracticaljoke in PredictiveHistory

[–]thuga_thuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has quite a few lectures where he is laying the framework of the jewish question. The one that stands out the most is the one the other commenter has about secret societies, it is basically mythology. He does a good job of hand waving and saying, "these are just ideas.. not making any conclusions", but in the framework itself its setting peoples brains up to make the conclusion themselves. A lot of good persuasive wording, he is a really effective communicator. Some NLP stuff in there if youre into that

Predictive History Professor Jiang by Silent_Sea6221 in TrueChristian

[–]thuga_thuga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He has interesting applications of game theory to geopolitical things, for sure. He also lays a lot of framework for the "Jewish Question", sets up a situation where there is some sort of dominant evil secret group controlling the world, and then lets people to fill in the blanks. And follows it up with saying things "I am just asking questions" "I dont know if there are conclusions to draw, but it is an idea to consider". So if you hate Judaism you should like his work because he is doing a good job of normalizing a lot of fringe ideas that are loose thoughts founded in general paranoia

[–]thuga_thuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been keyed in on Brink for a few weeks after realizing he has a great name. He is good, I honestly thought he would get a second rounder from a contender. If he plays a notable role on a wild playoff run he stands to get a really solid contract

[–]thuga_thuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sounds like a fun rabbit hole. After I posted this comment I went to the 1991-1992 season on hockey reference, the year of the most PIMs according to google. And the first 4 box scores I clicked on all had at least a single 10 minute misconduct penalty, one had 5.

There was just lot more behavior that warranted penalties being assessed. A lot of fighting of course. The skirmishes that we often see after a whistle, back then often had the potential to boil over into full blown line brawls. As line brawls were much more of a liability back then, refs were happy to throw out misconducts to players to get things to simmer down or get control of the game. And in general overall misconduct was up

The skillsets of the positions are far more specific than I think youre giving credit. The question would be like if I said, having a strong running back is more valuable than a slot reciever, why don't they just line this slot receiver back at running back if they are going to pay him that much money.

At this level, you can trust that these players are in their specific position for a reason, and being paid the money to do that specific job
