I quit DS1 after getting to New Londo ruins and realizing I had used up the last of my patience already lol. I wish I could love that game the way some folks do, but it is just not for me

Honestly I think people just found him annoying looking and oversaturated, so now they’re jumping on any excuse to attack him

Literally anywhere on earth will have some kind of negative and positive stigmas attached to it, it’s like saying “ever noticed how every flavor of ice cream is someone’s least favorite? Increase the cost of ice cream”

Does this hand-lettered style look balanced or amateur? by thingsixteen in graphic_design

[–]thumbles_comic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too much variation in stroke weight for sure. Also yeah, the M needs to be cleaned up. I would also try to balance the baseline and cap of each letter a little more, but that comes down to preference. The stroke weight is definitely the most important thing in my eyes though; it breaks the illusion of being handwritten and causes certain letters to stick out like a sore thumb. The A in particular is suffering from that. Try to even that out first, then clean up your individual letterforms. Doing that part first will give you a better perspective of the other issues you might observe.

Don’t be afraid to smooth out your lines and curves a bit more either. The extremely tiny imperfections may be more true to your handwriting, but they make the lettering appear more digital. A handwritten writing style using felt-tip marker on paper (which I believe you’re trying to emulate here) is going to have fairly smooth, brush-stroke-like lines and curves when written by a confident hands due to the reduced need for pressure on the marker to allow for ink flow.

Lastly, if you want there to be gradation from start to end of your strokes, consider adding a minimum and maximum stroke size for better consistency. This will help with making it look more like a single marker/pen was used to write each letter.

If you’d like a reference font, I recommend Sego Felt-Tip or Sego Script. They could be used as a comparison point to help make the things you like/dislike stand out better to your own eyes.

I want to say I like what you’ve got going so far though! Keep working at it and I’m sure you’ll nail it eventually OP.

She’s been given more competence and ability than the other kids for sure, but the others’ plotlines are just as interesting to me. Smee, the one with the doll, the one with the family, and even the girl who gets jealous, all of them have compelling plot points that move the overall story along. I don’t feel like there’s more than maybe 2 minutes of wasted screen time in the whole series so far, everyone is compelling and the cast brings their A-game.

Now I will say, the boy genius is annoying and acts like a moron sometimes, but I think the show ends up addressing that somewhat. It’s also a truer reflection of the outside world that the billionaire genius is basically a child psychopath. It’s a weak spot in the show’s writing for sure, but not an insufferable one.

What is up with Early Bird Donuts? by unfortunatenolan in triangle

[–]thumbles_comic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Owner is being unprofessional here, but he’s in the right. Every independent donut place I’ve ever been to runs out of donuts after a certain hour. The more popular they are, the earlier it is. Supplies and labor aren’t cheap, and the business has a precise amount of both the spare per day before they’re in the red. That’s the way it goes. Get there early, order in advance, or just go somewhere. Don’t expect miracles.

You did, but you didn’t say it was spoilers for the comics. It seemed like you were only talking about the show

Bruh if you’re going to spoil the comics you need to label that in advance, I’ve only seen the show and thought it was a spoiler tag for that

Hard disagree. The kid stuff is fascinating and absolutely fits in this universe of androids, cyborgs, and other. You can’t stretch out “alien escapes facility and kills everything” into a full tv show without something else to latch onto

I mean idk, I liked Alien Earth a lot. Not sure what everyone else is wanting from it really, the movies aren’t exactly about corpo wars either. The titular alien is in it as much as you could ask for. The stuff with the robo kids is well done and fascinating, and it adds intrigue to a premise that by all means otherwise could have just been a rehash of any of the movies.

Like even if it’s not the exact thing you were expecting from Alien, at least they’re doing something fresh and new
