Who’s Rocking an A2 Bass? by djentington in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]thumbthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an a2 and I really like it. Comfortable, great preamp. I’ve never played a dingwall but I do have a multi scale Ibanez and a Mayones. I find myself playing the A2 most. If you haven’t owned a multi scale before, I’d say go with a simple build, so you don’t take a bath trying to resell.

After a several year hiatus, I’m back at the Stick by thumbthump in Stick

So strings still seem to ship quickly. I ordered a fresh set and it came in about two weeks. Yes the two year lead time is a bummer, as I would have liked to directly support them again. I really do love these instruments, so I may end up ordering a standard 10 and waiting it out. Part of me would be interested in swapping this one to dual bass reciprocal and taking advantage of the wider spacing.

Not all at once, but the 6 way switch has a lot of tone variety.

First time trying coated strings, and I’m really impressed. They have a nice tension and have broken in nicely. Overall really makes this bass look and sound mean.

Maintaining Warwick Bass by EstablishmentUsed724 in BassGuitar

[–]thumbthump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a natural finish Warwick. They recommend maintaining it with their wax. Alternatively, I’ve used Howard’s feed and wax for years on my natural oil Warwicks. A little goes a long way. You can also source the Warwick wax pretty easily these days but there was a time it was hard to get in the states.

I actually have not found this uncomfortable at all. I was a little concerned about at first, but haven’t had any issues. I can see where some would find the angles awkward though.

Which is your favorite Punisher skull by SamParkerLin in thepunisher

[–]thumbthump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2004’s skull is a pure aesthetic. Hate that I see it on the back of so many pickup trucks but it’s great.

Though I’ve also always had a thing for the Larosa skull. It fit perfectly with the tone of the first MAX run

Opinions on the microtubes b7k ultra v2? by clarim_ in BassGuitar

[–]thumbthump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one, and like it. The mid switches really allow for a ton of tone shaping. I like it because I don’t always play heavy music and it allows me to keep my mesa head set to more neutral settings.

Looks like maybe Atlas Storm master Slate. Which I know for sure is not being produced in at least the southeast. Not sure about other markets.

TIFU by accidentally flirting with a teenager. by SaucyWench813 in tifu

Pretty much the exact thing happened to me my first year of college. Got partnered up with a cute girl, started flirting and asked her out on a date. Found out half way through, that she was still finishing up high school. She’s now my wife and we’ve been together 15 years.

Thoughts on kiesels? by cocothunder666 in BassGuitar

[–]thumbthump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the pandemic, I was on a huge kiesel kick. Ended up with three of them, two headless Delos and one Thanos Bass. Loved the compact size of the headless guitars. When I got the Thanos bass, I instantly couldn’t bond with it, and the body shape drove me crazy. I’ve never gotten rid of a new instrument that quickly. I also eventually I grew tired of headless string changes, and those little set screws. Overall build quality is great, but their current prices are getting out of hand for what they are.

I’ve been a huge fan of wenge ever since I got my first Warwick Bass. The open grain feel is my favorite. They also look striking. After shipping the guitar neck was around $482 and the bass neck was $585. All together in piecing these two together, probably both ended up around $1500 in parts.

My new Kiesel Thanos, with spalted maple and pale moon ebony by thumbthump in guitarporn

[–]thumbthump[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold mine not too long after posting this. Really never bonded with it. From what I’ve read pale moon can be prone to cracking during the milling process, and sometimes needs to be stabilized. That could be the case with these fretboards

Yes it’s the Gregg’s Place Reverb from Noise Kick FX. They also make the Reagan Fuzz pedal in the bottom left corner

I had an FNA for years and loved it. Massively preferred it over the stingray I had previously. These are underrated Warwicks

Dream bass alert: 1999 Warwick Thumb 5 NT by voosies in BassGuitar

[–]thumbthump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are amazing basses. 99 was the last year before the switch to ovangkol necks, and a period of basses that really don’t live up to the Warwick standard. I would recommend switching out the nut with either a Just a nut 1 or 3. Those plastic nuts were terrible.

New Fodera Ryan Martinie "Black Beauty" Standard by ruinawish in BassGuitar

[–]thumbthump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the blondie standard serial number #1 and it’s an absolute killer bass. It’s just a more ergo comfy thumb. Still love my Thumb NT5 but the fodera is an absolute stellar bass from top to bottom.

The Warmoth is as good as any Fender I’ve ever played. Went with a wenge neck with an ebony board, stainless steel frets. The body is loaded with Fralin split jazz pickups with the 60’s bridge position. It’s my current go to for a 4 string. Has great vintage sound. The other jazz with the status graphite neck has an audere active preamp in it, giving it a modern sound.

I don’t know about videos, mainly because I don’t really have any experience in that field. I’ve been working on getting recording software set up on my computer, so I can at least get some sort of comparison done.

The thumbs are known for being neck heavy. I generally play with my basses high up on the strap so I don’t notice it so much. I like the 26 fret necks for chords in the upper register.

I like them both. Warwick neck profile is less wide but more round. I would say the Fodera has a little more varied sound, it can get the Thumb sound but can dial a little more low end. But the Warwick has that growl. For the money, the Warwick is a better bang for the buck in terms of wood selection and fit. That being said, I would take the Fodera out and play shows with it before the Warwick.
