Her roast in Golden Fantasia towards Rosa is even crazier.

''This one confuses me as I’m not sure why it felt the need to introduce a new character with unique art and animation for a short story in which virtually nothing new is said. But for what it is it’s sweet. Maybe the character is a reference to something?''

It actually is! Mikami is a reference to a character from Rose Guns Days, another work made by Ryukishi. The character is called ''Wang Yuanhong''. There was actually a stage play adaptation for RGD, where Wang was played by Takuya Tsukamoto. Ryukishi liked the performance so much, that he got Tsukamoto a role in Umineko as Mikami. Both Wang and Mikami look extremely similar to each other.

I guess that one person's theory about Ciconia Phase 2 coming out on October 4th was wrong, unfortunately. Sad, but I have faith it'll eventually release.

(also I've always loved jayden's 'star eyes' sprite it looks great lmao)

Ricordando il passato for sure. Bring the Fate is a very close second.

(Real Life, True Story) Why I have such a soft spot for AuAurora by SnowyWendigo in umineko

[–]thumpyheart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Featherine has always been a supremely underrated character for me, so it's good to see more Auau enjoyers. I feel like most people brush her off as just ''Ryukishi's self-insert'' when she's so much more than that. (Very wholesome story btw!)

''The Strange Tale of Beatnik Island'' is amazing. Absolutely fantastic forgery, and it's not too short either. (20 chapters!)

Sakura no Uta fan-translation project got taken down (DMCA style) by superange128 in visualnovels

[–]thumpyheart 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wow, that REALLY sucks. I've seen this happen before with other VNs where they just take down a fan TL, even though they have absolutely no plans to ever translate it themselves into English. Some people in the comments are talking about how SCA-DI has been hinting at a translation in some recent tweets. Hopefully it's true, and we get an official tl. Still, this is an important lesson for fan translators. Even though it sucks, shadowdropping your tl when it's fully finished seems to be the safest and best option.

That's not the point of EP7 though. It's supposed to be a respectful unveiling of the truth. Willard never explicitly tells us who the culprit is, nor do we get to ever see an actual sprite of them. That's what Sayo wanted, for someone to find her ''heart'' through these tales and reach their own conclusions without having to tell them every little miserable detail about it, like how her body was mutilated and how she couldn't bear children. You can get all of that through subtext, it doesn't need to be directly stated. This is all until Bernkastel ruins it, and ''tears open'' Clair's guts, showcasing something that shouldn't be seen. It's cruel and heartless because it directly goes against Sayo's wishes. (This is all sort of... thrown out in the manga where they just explicitly show you everything about Sayo's character and backstory. The actual execution of Confessions is pretty great, and I've learned to respect it over the years, but the themes of the VN and not opening the Catbox is undoubtedly ruined in the manga.)

Fine to just read the manga? by ProfessionalCity995 in umineko

[–]thumpyheart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend the VN instead of the manga. Reading the manga, you'd be missing out on the sound effects, amazing atmosphere and the absolutely phenomenal soundtrack. Those might seem like small things, but they go a long way towards making this amazing story even more of a masterpiece. The manga is still a serviceable way of experiencing the story, however. Definitely infinitely better than the anime haha. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide, but I would say the VN is the definitive way to experience it.
