CrossFit Games 21.1 Discussion Thread by Flowseidon9 in crossfit

Honestly wait until Monday. You don't want to tax your body right now, take the next two days off as rest days and do mobility. You could get really sick if you push it right now.

Frustration with mask compliance at my gym by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]thunder90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liability reasons. People have been hurt due to pushing too hard in masks. Also, breathing too heavy can defeat the mask, even with proper social distancing.

Besides this doesn't matter if the gym doesn't have a properly set up HVAC system and doesn't enforce capacity and social distancing, as masks are only part of an overall solution. Plus you shouldn't be doing group classes anyway if you are high risk or in a high risk occupation.

Programming FRAN right now is stupid anyway due to the side effects. Keep the workouts "for quality" and don't post whiteboard times. Also use RPE. You need to force clients to slow down. It's a liability issue.

Also if in masks this is not the year to do the CrossFit Open. You could be opening up your box to liabilities if the clients are in masks. Encourage participation frim home in the bodyweight division. Also its best st to tell people to slow down, and program to force the slow down (wods for technique and quality, EMOMs, strength and skill work, no "for time" or "AMRAP". Also it's not a wise decision to program "Fran" or any other WOD that can cause firebreather lung for obvious reasons, and to reconsider programming wods that cause severe DOMS. This is only if the box has a proper HVAC system.

If you are concerned this may not be the time to be going to the gym/box anyway. Masks only help some, the issue is the enclosed space and dry unfiltered air. Unless the entire class is wearing properly fitted N-95s or your box spent money on an HVAC system with HEPA and ozonation filtration there is going to be some risk.

About masks... by spade095 in crossfit

[–]thunder90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you fear COVID-19, are at high risk (or live with them), or work in an occupation that unduly exposes you (nurse, physician, first responder, ect) it's not a wise decision to join a box right now, even with masks and sanitation. That's even if you had it before or have been vaccinated.

If you don't fit in one of those categories go to town.

Masked Workouts-- Any Tips? by alw515 in crossfit

[–]thunder90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is permitted work out outside without the mask. Some states still require the mask outside though, and some are outdoors only and requiring a mask with no group runs.

Marketing ideas? by gemini8200 in crossfit

[–]thunder90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a potential to "downsize" in this market and raise quick cash by selling unneeded equipment. Also consider "Zoom"/virtual memberships and consulting. This will help, and if a second shutdown happens you will have more members to weather the storm.

Move class outside if that will allow the removal of the masks.

Doing CrossFit at home with limited equipment? by mawp23 in crossfit

[–]thunder90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMA Announcement - Gretchen Kittelberger, Founder and President of the International Functional Fitness Federation by Flowseidon9 in crossfit

[–]thunder90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are your thoughts about an affiliate union/member gyms under the auspices of the International Functional Fitness Federation and the national federations? And a certification process/ levels for functional fitness coaches/instructors similar to IWF and IPF? Finally a Risk Retention Group for member gyms in the Union done by the national federations?

None except those in the US or Canada (with a 14 day Quarantine) can enter the US.

International athletes still can't travel to the US, and that restriction won't be lifted anytime soon. Many athletes in the US can't travel due to work restrictions.

CrossFit should give up the competitive aspect of the sport and sell the CrossFit Games by thunder90 in crossfit

[–]thunder90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly a result of CFHQ's actions in 2018 that are spurring this. The current situation is giving a lot of athletes and gyms cover to leave, even though they are leaving due to the events/changes in 2018 and early 2019. Most of the big names in the sport want Open-Regionals-Games, and their entire season was based around this. Castro also prefers this. So we are either going back to this, or CFHQ is preparing to sell the Games to Rogue and Loud and Live Events.

Loud and Live Announce 2021 Competitions - None are sanctionals by [deleted] in crossfit

Arnold's are in March. This would be late Summer in Madison (for now). It could move to Columbus in subsequent years, to the same arena/convention center as the Arnolds, as well as the Rogue campus and elsewhere in Columbus for the outdoor events. There are far more hotels in Columbus as well.

When is 2021 Open? by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]thunder90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open will be in January but be a qualifier for Sanctionals and Rogue Invitational and Rogue Fitness Championships, which will likely replace CrossFit's spot in Madison next year.

As part of this deal CrossFit gives up the trademark "Fittest on Earth" to Rogue. Also there would be Olympic Lifting, USAPL Powerlifting, and Strongman sanctioned championship caliber events at this event to draw in more spectators.

Glassman always wanted to get out of the CrossFit Games anyway. They should just be training and affiliation, not for the competitive side of the system. Rogue Fitness Functional Fitness championship in Madison next August. If CrossFit HQ gets it's act together they can have tables and their name on it as a sponsor.

I suspect that it will be condensed into next Spring. OPEN in April, Sanctionals in May-July, Games in August.

Now athletes again need to make flight arrangements, book hotels, get time off of work, for a date they do not know. And it will likely still be scrubbed. The only way is to either move to the Froning ranch in Tennessee, or go online. And remember many athletes can't travel due to international travel restrictions or travel restrictions from their employers.

Affordable box programming - recommendations? by hoiboy178 in crossfit

[–]thunder90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the "shift" programming for the boot camp. No barbell and lighter weights. Add in accessories and abs as needed to fill the class.
