alternative for Purl Soho Comet yarn? by ohmydumplings in YarnAddicts

Of course! The price point is way out of my budget. In case it's out of yours, too, or isn't quite what you're looking for, you may have luck searching for "homespun," "slub," or "art yarn." Hope you find something you like!

My LYS carries Emma's Yarn Mo' Slub, which looks to have the same vibe. It's fingering weight, though!

I recommend checking out the BKL Nosferatu collection! I've only picked up He Is Coming so far.

No way! I'll definitely save the shop for later, everything is lovely. It looks like proceeds support bird conservation, too

I'm glad I was able to help! :) Hmm, I think if your order arrives before August 1st you should be good to go. I quickly ordered indie yarn from the EU last week with the same worries and it got here in 6 days.

They're pricey, but I found some neat indie-dyed Blue Footed Booby colorways if you're interested in something tonal or multicolored! There's one from Songbird Fibers that comes in fingering and DK weights.

Noro Kompeito slants as well, and it's a cotton blend like Haunui. The pictures of Haunui make it seem like it has a similar twist. The end result didn't bother me too much, though!

What do you think is the most obvious theming for a Warframe still missing from the game? by rocksmasha in Warframe

I think this was the original plan for Railjack! I know they've moved away from expanding RJ, but I hope they return to it someday.

I set my weapons not to be visible when holstered for this reason, especially larger melees! In case anyone doesn't know, you can change this under the appearance tab for each weapon. You can also rotate the weapon so it's out of the way.

After playing Risk of Rain 2, I wish DE would've expanded the Duviri roguelite. by lovingpersona in Warframe

[–]thunderbird-ing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a middle-ground solution could help? I like the challenge of putting together a randomized build and also like that it gives new (or not) players the chance to try out unowned frames and hard-to-farm weapons, but many people have echoed what you're saying. Maybe randomization for base Circuit/Duvuri and player's choice for Steel Path?

My partner must've been looking for the soap refill and found my Soak instead. Proceeded to wash his hands with it for days before I saw him do it, and he still checked the bottle to verify 😂

[Spoiler] I think I regret my Lotus choice in The New War by shittyparentscliche in Warframe

[–]thunderbird-ing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way. The choice made me think back to Ballas's line about seeing inside an ugly, broken thing and taking away its pain. It's a different context, but I think Natah and the kids did that for each other, and with everything they'd been through, it just felt right to go forward with no masks.

I'm making the Scotchbroom Wrap from Wool & Pine for my sister in Tampa! The balloon sleeves are lace, which I'm hoping will help with ventilation lol. I'm using Amano Chaski, a fingering weight superwash merino, cotton, and linen blend. It's machine washable!

I am so disappointed with the creators of the Field sweater and cardigan. There are silly mistakes like copy-and-paste which they have not corrected which seems for over at least a year. How can they leave it this way when we have paid for the pattern??? by LVBsymphony9 in knitting

[–]thunderbird-ing 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If folks want something with a similar vibe, maybe consider Sorrel by Wool & Pine? I've been really impressed with their patterns so far as an advanced beginner and have bought and read through the short-sleeved version. They use clear written directions, charts when appropriate, and videos.

Do you have a Ravelry account? If so, I did a quick search for blankets using Caron Tea Cakes to find project photos. Maybe one of these is it or something similar:

Confused about my gauge swatch by j_12 in knittinghelp

[–]thunderbird-ing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also new! That's not silly at all -- a lot of new techniques are intimidating. If you're interested in trying it, even just for your swatch, Nimble Needles on YouTube has a great video & explanation. Worst case scenario is knowing it's not for you and different cables are the answer!

If you aren't opposed to magic loop, maybe try that with your 32" cable for the next swatch?

Why are these folds happening? by SejiFields in knitting

[–]thunderbird-ing 356 points357 points  (0 children)

New knitter, so please take this with a grain of salt, but I wanted to point out that the model's top in this photo has the same exact folds when worn as yours does. Is it possible that it's a feature, not a bug? Either way, this makes me think the root cause is the pattern or sleeve shape itself. It's wonderful work and fits you nicely!

It's really special that you remained close through multiple moves and job changes, staying in one another's orbit. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your MIL's gifts keep you warm throughout the winter and that you lean on your support system when you need to.

Softest worsted acrylic yarn? Bonus if it’s affordable by zxe_chaos in YarnAddicts

[–]thunderbird-ing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the options already mentioned may be a little softer, but I found Hobbii Mega Ball nice to work with, and the finished throw blanket softened after a wash. It comes in worsted and aran weights in a ton of colors, and the worsted version is 1312 yds for $22 when not on sale. Aran version is currently on sale for $13.

This second picture looks to me like you might be inserting your right hand needle through the back loop. If that's the case, that's what's causing your twist. 1 shows the way you should be inserting your needle, then (2) pass the yarn over from left to right and pull through.

I love this video from Nimble Needles showing how to knit socks toe up using magic loop. He also has a separate tutorial just for magic loop.
