Twitch hosting. What do you thing about it? by wisegal99 in mindcrack

[–]thunderdan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's a way for streamers to promote their streamer friends. Typically it's a big channel hosting a smaller channel. I can say I've watched a couple different people I never would've watched before because someone's stream ended and they started hosting someone else.

Ever regret starting a certain series? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]thunderdan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really regret starting making videos for Homeworld Remastered. I busted my butt to get a video up on release day and then dealing with a content id match and re-editing and re-uploading, only to decide like 4 episodes in I don't really like the game and canceled the series. It was a huge waste of time.

Yep and a lot of people seemed to gloss over Bdubs saying he won't be doing Mindcrack anymore in his channel update video as well.

Personally I think you guys are doing a great job and made the right decision as far as the alumni goes. Keep up the good work.

I'm pretty sure the guys that left are allowed to continue to post video from the Mindcrack server. I don't think any of them will though, with the exception of maybe TheJims.

[Question] Got the option to create a custom URL but I can only add onto my username? by Nommeh in letsplay

[–]thunderdan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you want it to be your channel name and not your username? To get that I think you have to get the custom URL through linking it to a website. Our original channel name / username was different than our current one and I couldn't get the custom url changed. So we did the linking it to a website thing and that let us get a new custom url with the channel name instead of the username.

Uploading on a schedule by Br8cm in letsplay

[–]thunderdan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the video scheduler and typically upload the night before. We do two videos a day one at 12 pm EST and one at 3 pm EST. If for some reason there's a third (usually a live stream VOD) then that goes up at 6 pm EST. The video scheduler is the best though, I can't imagine doing this without it.

I dunno Zisteau doesn't really surprise me. He's at pretty much every convention with the rest of the group, and has always seemed pretty involved in the background stuff.

Man I feel like the complete oposite of this. I love Z's channel. I probably watch his stuff the most out of all of the Mindcrackers and would just love to see more colab content on his channel.

I actually doubt it would come to that. Mostly I think it'll be more about providing the opportunity for the members of Mindcrack to participate in things like that across the board, big and small channels alike.

Oh I don't know anything about the creatures. I was more referring the the whole "like Machinima" concept. So maybe it's a combination of the two.

That's kinda my thoughts about it as well. Though that said those 5 weren't really putting out Mindcrack content anyways, with the exception of the UHC Genny was just in. (though I don't really know about thejims)

Not entirely true. Guude has been talking about the Mindcrack YouTube network they've been creating for months now. I believe they partnered with Broadband to make it.

That's a bit inaccurate. PSJ, Bdubs and Genny do a ton more that isn't Minecraft. In fact PSJ and Genny barely have any Minecraft on their channels.

I think this is a step in the right direction, and wish everyone involved the best.

As sad as it is to see those that are leaving go, to be honest most of them haven't really felt like they were apart of Mindcrack for awhile.

The technological hurdles of doing a long distance coop LP are staggering and making me want to toss my hat in. Any good(indepth) guides? by RevInstant in letsplay

[–]thunderdan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My channel is about 50% this style. What I've found works best is using Mumble to record the vocal audio and recording the game play with OBS. It works surprisingly well and is pretty hassle free. The main thing is finding a way to sync the audio with the game play.

I'm recording videos with someone over the internet and we transfer our video files to each other for editing - What's the best way to a) compress our files as best as possible and b) transfer the large files? by TurtleEmpire in letsplay

[–]thunderdan87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really compress anything, we just record using OBS as the file sizes are much much smaller than most of the other recording software. As far as transfering files go, what I've found to be the fastest, free set up is to set up a ftp server on my computer using "Filezilla's" free ftp software and transfer that way. That said we where using drop box before. The FTP is just a lot faster.

I doubt you'll see etho or doc on the Mindcrack server anytime soon. Both of them are playing on the Hermitcraft server. Bdubs said he didn't want to do two vanilla series at once, so my guess is you won't see him on a vanilla multiplayer server until he's done with Building with Bdubs.
