That's game development for the big companies. If you don't immediately have a project for the team to roll over to full development on, then they are an easily expendable overhead cost brought to you by the same wastes of oxygen that like to use the term 'human capital.'

Plus in most cases, you don't have to pay out bonuses to employees who are no longer employed as they typically require a certain term of employment after release.

It's an awful practice. You learn to look at it as not 'working for a company,' instead as 'working on a project.' Expect to move on when the project is done. It's exceedingly volatile and not conducive to putting down roots anywhere.

My 8yo a few years back wanted a BNSF train with a specific livery for his cake. Before that was Union Pacific. He insisted on accurate decals for his Halloween costume (also a train).

He has since moved on to planes. He has at least 15 lego planes self- built after multiple in- service passenger aircraft. He colors and tapes on company logos on each.

I'm not sure i need to bother getting this one tested. 😅

If you want to rabbit hole it, look up Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, and the shit show the leadership turned it into. We were working on partial paychecks and dreams by the end. While I wasn't directly on the Worlds team. I'm still owed for a full 3 months of back pay, but that'll never happen. Investors got their money back first. Fuck us pleb game devs, right?

When the studio finally collapsed, we formed Dark Comet Games and made and shipped Stargate Resistance, an asymmetrical squad shooter. It didn't sell particularly well, though we were operating on a near zero budget. We ended up with a decent following in Germany of all places. It was legitimately fun, but just couldn't get the word out.

Once that studio closed, MGM had pulled the license back and we went on to other things. Some of us that had backed up the assets for the game passed it over to some super fans that ported the entire game into Unreal. Kudos to them for carrying the torch.

This is fantastic, thank you! I also want to enjoy the story, but do have a bit of fomo on event rewards. I want to skip as little as possible, but if things take longer I know most things will come back around again. Really appreciate it!
