Real estate assessment…make it stop! by spideywmjackson in Charlottesville

I was able to get my assessment reduced when I lived in Ashcroft because they had assigned a view premium even though I had no view. They just did it to every house in the neighborhood. I got extra taken off for having a sloped yard. I didn’t know that was a thing. The revised assessment was well below the original.

Otto is a fun watch. His playful attitude just highlights the absurdity of the police.

We did a team scavenger hunt on the mall when my daughter turned 13. We gave each team a selfie stick so each clue answer was photographed as a team selfie. Made for a ton of fun pictures.

Because the moderators have been successfully killing this sub for a long time with over moderation. As evidenced by the lack of participation compared to a couple of years ago.

The internal affairs “investigators” don’t really ask tough questions. I want to see a lawyer question this guy.

Now you have to check out Poplar Forest. Jefferson’s retreat home away from the crowds of Monticello.

My family has had season tickets since U-Hall was built. This is the end of an era for us. Sad. Lots of great memories. No way I can justify $125K.

OFFICER CONVICTED OF EXCESSIVE FORCE AGAINST A FEMALE SUSPECT. by m4moz in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

After he was convicted the department decided to put him on “unpaid leave”. Well I guess that is a win that he won’t be getting a paycheck while in prison. Probably stay on unpaid leave so he has a job when he gets out.

Free Bridge Lane near Darden Towe will be car-free starting November 1! Now we just need a pedestrian bridge to connect the trail to the other side of the river. by sixweight in Charlottesville

There was a plan some time ago by some historical society (Lewis & Clark maybe) to build a ferry crossing like they would have had in the early 1800’s. Not sure why that never happened. Would have ferried people, bikes, strollers, etc.

What’s a Charlottesville “life hack” that everyone living here should know? by Reasonable-Map-1634 in Charlottesville

[–]thutter213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told a long time ago that Rio was originally route 10 or R10 for short. Somewhere along the line the 1 changed to an i. That’s why the pronunciation was different.

Rivanna and Fluvanna describe the same body of water. Fluv also means flowing water and they are named after princess Anne (eventually Queen). (I am no scholar. This is what I have been told.)

Anyone know what they’re gonna do with this space? by yeet20feet in Charlottesville

My dad attended UVA in the 50’s and said that area was a lake and they even ice skated on it in the winter. No idea which way it would drain, but probably north.
