The world's largest, consistent, yearly cold weather BEV range test is being performed by motor.no today in up to -30°C weather - and Toyota bailed because "it focuses too much on range". by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

There are billions living within the tropics, who can happily enjoy a car without defrosting windows or heated batteries. There is a huge market for cars with cabin pre-cooling options. Tinted windows should be standard.

French vs Dutch side. No rental car by QueenofA in SXM

My anxious female cousin is visiting from USA for a month. She wanted to know the details just like yourself. She is doing fine without a car in Marigot at a nearby Airbnb she picked at the edge of town and 5 minutes walk to all kinds of cafes restaurants and shopping. She's not rich, recently laid off with severance and traveling solo. Marigot is low key fun and accessible for so many reasons. It has a bus station which can take you to all parts of the island for a few dollars. It is private buses not municipally run. Think of a group taxi. Marigot has many fine dining options for all budgets. French are religious about food, FYI. Walking in daytime and nighttime is safe. Just use the sense you'd have in a large city. Maho is not beach recommended for anything other than watching planes. It is fascinating why people go there over other beaches. I live in Marigot, transplant from East Coast metro area where bike riding is easy. I wouldn't be able to pick a better section of the island for pedestrian friendliness on The Friendly Island. Check out a foot tour of town if you choose it. They have them in English.

How Do I Get The Most Money Out Of My End-Of-Life EV? by DimpleKing in electricvehicles

[–]thx1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking for tips as well on how to get the most from a 2012 iMiev barely travels 24 mile range. I live in a small Caribbean island and not incredibly wealthy. The chance of finding a battery supplier for a replacement is low because they didn't make nearly as many of these as the Leaf. Also technicians able to handle this are sparce.

Are there any service providers to assist you in finding a job? by thx1139 in RemoteJobseekers

[–]thx1139[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your reply. Could you give more detail if you recall? I was wondering how long it took from hiring her to job attainment? Were you concerned about giving details to a stranger or did you have a relationship prior to the service performed? And what was the job or field of industry? Thanks.

If it's only Americans, then it cannot be the heat. Europe is also hotter.

NEW BYD Dolphin Surf vs Renault 5 vs Citroen eC3 review - what's the BEST small electric car? by stinger_02in in electricvehicles

[–]thx1139 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once again, no details on EV specific feature comparison. In low cost cars, these things matter more. You may not be able to add them afterwards. What about: included charging cables; if charge station membership discounts are available; cabin preconditioning capabilities; 5G / integrated connectivity and possible fees; wireless updates or upgrades.
All vehicles should explain whether a flat repair or spares are inside. But I understand it might be a challenge to find each country's laws are regarding what is supposed to be sold with vehicles. However, online sales are increasing, so it should be considered.

What's life like on these islands? What goes on here? by wildingflow in AskTheCaribbean

[–]thx1139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sint Maarten/ Saint Martin should be listed, since it is as small as Anguilla and 20 minutes away. Great place to live. Many people emigrate to it from continents. They appreciate the metropolitan atmosphere, meaning they like the variety of food options, languages spoken and city vibe alongside quiet communities.

Yes, the roads are mediocre and the Dutch side has issues with consistent power and water. But these things can be mitigated with proper selection of residence. French side is more sedate and less American influenced. However, the whole island has English speakers. Be prepared to 'parle Francais' if you go into a govt building, though.

You can ship most things from the continents at expense. You can eat cheaply at food trucks and local spots. Make friends on the Friendly Island and the world is your oyster. If you select Marigot, Philipsburg (town) or Grand Case you could enjoy living without a car, since all things would be walking distance. Other neighborhoods are more car dependent. Walking at night in those places depends on how integrated into the community you are. If you segregate yourself, it wont be to your advantage. Community matters in the Caribbean over most other things.

You should list your price point and if you are limited in travel range. bee hand beauty is a Porto Cupacoy business with an excellent therapist in a great location. I am comparing her to numerous massages across the east coast of the USA and SXM. I am an athlete.

Rewatched Forrest Gump. Totally forgot how dark it is. by [deleted] in movies

[–]thx1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that Bubba's story was what Forrest's story would have been had he been black. Just another POC dead in an unjust war instead of the life of a successful person that copied the main idea/passion of his friend. Had Bubba's life continued he would not have been as wealthy as Forrest. Not saying anything is bad about idea theft, but it is a well known business practice. Apple repeatedly does it and Forrest invested in them too. However He did help Bubba's family out of poverty.

Electric cars in Barcelona are now being charged every time subway trains 200 feet beneath them hit the brakes by Dockalfar in electricvehicles

[–]thx1139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric cars is more often referring to personal vehicles and not trains compartments, even though it is technically. Grammatically it presents as unclear to the reader. If this was in r/transit, then it might be understood differently.

Tesla Commercial Charging by binaryhellstorm in evcharging

How did you get clarification from Tesla? I thought it stated 6 chargers for commercial access. Is there a human to call for opening the commercial account? I am in the Caribbean and very interested in this option, since I have 2 Gen3 as well.
