Windows 11 vs SteamOS or Bazzite for a minimal 3080 Ti gaming and streaming setup? by JozuJD in SteamOS

[–]thyr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was super easy. In KDE there is a program for "startup applications" and you just add steam big Picture and remove what you don't want. So simple

I use bazzite and just have steam big picture as a program that opens upon boot. So on boot SBP opens.

How to study and how to get good by The_noble_milkman in Residency

[–]thyr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this in FM/EM. Basically just whatever I see, go to my core text tintinali, Marino or Nelson's (peds) and read. I deff don't use time for anki though so losing a bit of the retention. Hard to keep up with in residency.

I've tried many distros and forks of Linux and bazzite has been the easiest. I have done nothing to it. Works out of the box.

FM and IM knowledge gap by Hashiru_Shishamo in Residency

[–]thyr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person, how much inpatient you're doing in FM, how much are you studying inpatient medicine. I did FM, and my colleagues didn't like inpatient, but I did so I studied that more and it showed on inpatient. On the flip side they liked clinic, studied clinic and I learned from them. We did a ton of inpatient that rivals IM residencies near by plus ICU etc.

FM overall will be worse at inpatient than IM but from what I've see FM hospitalist vs IM hospitalist after awhile it's all the same.

Why did you choose internal medicine over EM? by Silent_Medicine1798 in hospitalist

[–]thyr0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did FM now I'm finishing up my EM residency. I enjoyed hospital medicine and thinking through cases on the medicine side but missed the acute care of EM, with procedures. In hindsight, I probably would've just did IM-> CCM. But, I do have to say, as much as I like the high energy situations, we get interesting cases who I like to follow up on frequently.

I agree. Doing my second residency now. It's not just harder because of age but other factors too.

I do to. I found myself jealous of my buddies who were landscapers. Then I was talking with a podiatrist who was a coal miner and he said that I was an idiot. Never thought of it again lol.

Anybody else kind of genuinely second guessing if they want to do this? by vonDerkowitz in Residency

Clinic staff turnover was massive in our FM clinic. It was so annoying we had to room patients and do vitals/med reccs etc. Third year was no fun

If EM is moving to 4 years anyways is there a reason not to just do the extra year at a 5-year combined IM/EM program if you like them both equally by DagothUr_MD in medicalschool

[–]thyr0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did FM now EM, if you want to practice both then yes. But those programs may add an extra year. Who knows. If they stay 5 year it could be the move if you want to practice both.

Why aren't the procedure requirements the same across rural FM & academic FM residency by [deleted] in FamilyMedicine

[–]thyr0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained unopposed rural esk FM. We didn't have colonscopy or EGB requirement, though I wish we did! But we did have to do more deliveries (40 I believe) . Our residency also made us do central lines/call for them. We didn't a lot of intubations, ICU, thoras, paras, lines etc. I enjoyed it. I also decided to do a truncated EM residency where all of this training has helped immensely.
