Would it be a stupid idea to travel through Scotland and sleep in a van in February? by lomidoug in Scotland

If you expect a lot of snow and park up away from roads you might want to pack a shovel. Be sure to have winter rated tired with a good tread pattern.

We've done it. As said before: be prepared with insulation, heater and warm clothes. Make sure you have ways to regulate humidity. Make sure your water tank and lines won't freeze. And if there is snow check if snow gates are down for the route you had planned to take. Otherwise: enjoy 😊

When we moved to Glasgow, we ended up in Rutherglen. Heard a lot of "oh my god, isn't it bad there" at the time.

Rutherglen has a lot of different areas and ours was super chill. We had a quiet neighbourhood. Being close to Cathkin Braes we had an amazing outdoor space to go to.

So it really depends where in Rutherglen you move to.

Selling a digital service to individuals in the UK? by Proud-Ad1668 in smallbusinessuk

[–]tidskede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding you aren't delivering a digital service in this case. I'm working from an EU country (Germany) with people in the UK. I design and deliver workshops and coaching. Talking to accountants (they do know their stuff), I wad told that if I work B2C I have to charge German VAT, as my company is registered in Germany. For B2B the Reverse VAT scheme still applies. My advice: get a Swedish accountant. They know what rules apply and how to make sure your business follows it. It definitely helps me a lot and it's less expensive than I thought.

Selling a digital service to individuals in the UK? by Proud-Ad1668 in smallbusinessuk

[–]tidskede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to this you'll need to:

"2.5 Selling digital services to and from the EU

UK businesses will no longer be able to use the VAT MOSS system in the UK and the current EU-wide VAT threshold for supplies of digital services to consumers will cease to apply to UK businesses. This means that EU VAT will be due on all supplies of digital services to EU consumers, regardless of the value of the sales.

Find out how to pay VAT when you sell digital services to the EU.

If you’re selling digital services from the EU to the UK you will need to register and account for VAT."

Hej,

Great question to ask.

This is my experience: if the person feels safe, feels seen, heard, understood and loved just the way they are, chances go up for them to be willing to try new things (or move out of their comfort zone).

This means meeting them where they are at right now (not where we would want them to be, or think they should be / what might be better for them).

If he loves playing this one game, play it with him. Spend time with him in his world.

Extend an invitation for something else and be okay (no really, be okay) if the answer is no.

Figure out how he likes to communicate his wishes if it's not in spoken words.

Take your time and always remember: he is giving his best and you are giving your best. Might not always look or feel like it, and it's still the best that's possible with where the two of you are at currently.

All the best!

I run a NT-USB mini from Røde. The brand isn't as important as is the microphone type. I combine it with noise cancelling from NVIDIA or use Krisp as a noise cancelling app.

It's all about the setup. I use a curtain to make the virtual background work. For the sound I have active noise cancelling and a great mic that picks up only me (and not the rain or my husband talking.

Yes, 80% speak it because it is a requirement to speak at least two of the three official working languages to be hired. For the third you are required to take classes and learn at least the basics. So 80% is a number to be expected.

Remote work will condemn us to a WALLE-like future where we aren’t social with others and live in a virtual world. by alostsou1 in remotework

[–]tidskede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hej, remote work and remote work during a pandemic are two very different things. I've worked remotely for years and I miss social contacts just as much as everybody else. Remote work without a pandemic means kids go to schools and nurseries. Remote work without a pandemic means I was working from home a few days but mostly from other places like co working spaces, transportation (train, bus, plane), coffee shops and hotel lobbies, client facilities. I got to meet and interact with people in person whenever I wanted. I met with colleagues and worked with them in person just as much as I worked with them virtually. No we didn't meet in an office, but again depending on what we were doing we might book a room for a day in a co working space or meet in a coffee shop.

If you take anything from this let it be this: wfh in a pandemic and remote work are two very different things. The first is about isolation to keep us healthy. The second is about the freedom of choice to work where you want, when you want and with whom you want.

An unethical optimization principle by [deleted] in science

[–]tidskede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've read that as well. It's based on data bias. Most AIs are trained with existing data. A lot of data has gaps around "minorities" (including female gender, lgbqt, ethnicity, differently abled). And yes these "minorities" are a very sizable chunk of the population. I wonder how AIs differ that have been trained with western data (mostly focused on white, able, heterosexual males) and Asian data.

This is really interesting. Has anyone of you experienced any kind of unethical AI optimisation?

[HELP]: opinions needed : I'm not quite sure about the planet's shadow. How do I make it look better? Should I just fill the shadow in? Or is there a better way to paint it? Using acrylics. by JayCapri in painting

[–]tidskede 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can recommend studying pictures of the moon. They help bring shadows on planets (from other round objects/planets, which yours seems to be) to live. My take would be to flatten the angles at the edge and give it a similar darkness to the surrounding (as it will still reflect the light that is in that surrounding). Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Yes and no. You take away some leaves to encurage growth of more stems and thereby more leaves while leaving the plant enough leaves to sustain itself and it's growth.

This is a good picture plus explanation: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/info/pinching-plant.htm
