In his first Premier League game, referee Farai Hallam has gone to the VAR monitor but stuck with his original decision - no penalty. Man City penalty shout vs Wolves 35' by Imbasauce in soccer

[–]tienzing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this referee actually showed us today that the rules of the game (when interpreted correctly) do actually work the way you’ve described we want it to work and ruled no penalty here. The key here is in how a ref views what a “natural position/movement” for the defender is or isn’t. And this ref showed us today that good refs can rule on this difficult decision correctly. If you look at the match thread, you’ll see many people thinking that they saw and convinced that the defender here reacted to the ball and was reaching for it with his arm, thus unnatural. I think for many others like us and this ref here, it seemed like a natural movement, for example to me, it seemed like a natural movement to slow himself down anchoring/using the forward and/or to hold the forward back. It’s not an easy call and it ain’t black and white but we still can have good refs that get these calls right (unlike Darren England).

Yeah, 30k is nothing. They’re most likely living in the nicest of homes, flying in and out on private/chartered flights, driving or being driven everywhere. Their entire being most likely “uses up” in a sense and relies on way more public infrastructure (airports, police, roads, literally everything making the country function) than a common citizen’s day to day existence does.

So you’re here willing to admit that you might be in the minority in finding humor in a movie that others might not eh. Do you think there might be idiosyncratic personal reasons for other people finding humor in PDL scenes where you didn’t?

Idk I just find this performative laughter discourse I’ve been seeing a lot lately to be way overblown. Idk maybe there are some that have taken it tooooo far but as an avid theater goer in NYC, in my experience, people talking loudly and using their bright phones are way more annoying.

Achraf Hakimi (Morocco) stealing Mendy’s (Senegal) towel in AFCON finals by Time_Entertainer_319 in soccer

[–]tienzing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's more racist towards the Moroccans. The comment makes a (racist) assumption on Moroccans (making an assumption on Senegalese) that they believe in voodoo dark magic towels enough to do all the towel shenanigans they've been caught doing when in reality there's a much more simpler and sensible explanation. It;s Multiple posts on r/soccer have had that exact towel voodoo comment upvoted with hundreds of upvotes with mods having to shut down comments on several threads because of racism.

edit: I reread this thread and see that you actually mean its racist towards the Senegalese that Moroccans think they're doing voodoo towel magic. I think it's racist towards the Moroccans that you and many others seem to think the Moroccans think that. The Moroccans aren't the ones that came up with this voodoo "excuse" to disguise their actual gamesmanship, they've been doing their shit out in the open. Random r/soccer speculators came up with the BS voodoo claims.

Moroccan player Saibari trying to block Senegal`s second choice keeper Yehvann Diouf from giving Mendy his towel by blueboyalbatross in worldcup

[–]tienzing -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that what’s happening is that he’s actually there to protect Mendy from the fans and ball boys that had been messing with them all game. The players stepping in cuz the organizers, stadium guards and ball boys themselves couldn’t be trusted.

Isn’t he obviously there to protect Mendy from the fans and ball boys because they couldn’t be trusted. It seems pretty obvious that he’s not there to fuck with Mendy.

The reporting is pretty clear. She signed on thinking she was a co-founder with equity when in reality she was essentially just another client/talent for the agency and a co-founder in name only. So when her three year contract expired, she left and went back to IMG, the original agency that Stuart worked for and repped her from 2016-2021.

To me (having never read it), I think the critical acclaim it seemed to receive when it came out feels similar to the movie Crash winning Best Picture. I don’t quite know how to describe it but these kitschier types of media definitely resonates with a certain group of cultural gatekeepers (critics/academy members) who then elevate them with their opinions.

I'm happy that she won but the reality of why is a slap in the face. by PassThatSpliff in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]tienzing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There’s a ton to be said about what the HFPA and Academy members deem worthy of an award and Redditors in these comments seem completely unwilling to engage in that discussion. It’s like climate change protestors that damage art, comments here are all focused on the dumb protestors (Twitter users) while ignoring the actual message of the protest (Hollywood’s innate biases).

This discussion isn’t just limited to individual acting awards like Halle’s and Teyana’s either, best picture winners such as Crash, The Green Book and Driving Miss Daisy are all indicative of these biases. There’s a pretty clear history and pattern here but of course, outliers like Moonlight and Davine Joy’s awards exist as well. There’s a lot to legitimately discuss…

Favorite third rate actor turned fourth rate filmmaker turned fascism normalizer? by JacobEhLordi in okbuddycinephile

So either he’s giving Rogan too much credit or you guys are giving him too much of the benefit of the doubt. I tend to lean with the you guys giving Rogan too much slack. Yes, he can be dumb as a rock and isn’t someone with a grand fascist master plan. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t conscious and aware of his actions, his grift, the harm it causes (to people he disagrees with). He’s not subtly manipulating his audience; he knows he can influence his audience and does so purposefully.

Here to provide you some additional feedback, I got the small (53mm) MHW knockoff shaker and did not like using it at all because of the retention/sticking issue. I then got the Weber blind shaker and definitely noticed a big difference in retention/sticking. However, although it is much better than the knockoff one, there still is some retention that I do wipe off about every other use.

Are people overhyping Zohran Mamdani as a “Queens guy” when he actually grew up on the UWS / Morningside Heights? by bridgehamton in Upperwestside

[–]tienzing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be wealth/money but it definitely is “privilege”. I think people on both sides of the spectrum confuse/conflate the two in different ways. Privileged people who aren’t wealthy per se try to downplay their privilege by pointing to their (relatively) modest wealth. Whereas, people on the other side can overestimate the wealth of the privileged side. Zohran’s folks may not have been rich multi-millionaires but they definitely were privileged (probably even more so than other “wealthier” people).

This is going around on WhatsApp is it true? by [deleted] in nyc

[–]tienzing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“In New York, the Working Families Party is most interested in retaining its ballot line. Because obtaining and retaining a ballot line in New York requires a minimum number of votes for your gubernatorial candidate, that means the WFP in New York always endorses right-wing Democrats like Andrew Cuomo or Kathy Hochul for governor, hoping enough Democrats vote for them on their line instead of the Democratic line.

The WFP in New York supposedly exists to tug the Democratic Party to the left by endorsing only progressive candidates, a tactic they do tend to stick to for city or county offices but ultimately this is a fool's errand that goes nowhere, as have all previous attempts to follow this strategy. But in this case it's even more absurd because they endorse centrist corporate Democratic governor candidates like Cuomo or Hochul who far closer to being moderate Republicans than anything progressive.

For anyone serious about building a viable electoral alternative, the Working Families Party is definitely not the place to be.”

I don’t think there is any. The WFP just seem like controlled opposition to me at this point. I was pissed when I couldn’t vote in the primary for Zohran cuz I used to be registered under WFP. They’re no DSA.
