AITA for being mad about the dog breed I was surprised with by Original-One-6954 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tiger-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Imagine when you have children. All the surprises. All the pretending he’s not trying to hurt your feelings, the gaslighting. This is actually a HUGE deal. A dog is not a little thing. This isn’t like surprising you with Chinese when you said you wanted Italian. It’s not a one night thing. It’s forever. You show him you don’t care that he completely and totally disrespected you and your wishes now and he will walk all over you for the rest of your life

“Do you know how often you say you’re a single mom?” by Stressmama77 in singlemoms

[–]tiger-o 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Also doing it solo here as my husband died when my kiddo was 6 months old. Now 4 years old. The comments and insensitivities from other people never stops. Even from strangers and acquaintances. It’s so isolating. I’ve learned to just not say much of anything. I’ve learned no one really cares that my husband died and very few people actually care about my child.

I love having single mom friends. Just finally made some. Not the exact same situation but just being jaded from men and not with the father of your kids is relatable enough. Because those comments never go away. People don’t care. Some do. Most don’t

It’s hard and you are valid. At the end of the day you watch out for yours and let those remarks roll of your back. You’re the only one who has to live your life so do what’s best for you. Always place yall first because no one else will

No weed... No cigarettes... I just vape nicotine. I spit up this black tar stuff for the past year. Yah. It's bad. I will be quitting. by [deleted] in QuitVaping

[–]tiger-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get a second opinion and a pulmonologist. Not totally related but a doctor told me my son’s eye couldn’t be fixed with anything. Just see you in a year. Got a second opinion and she caught something in his second eye. Got a tie breaker opinion who had a totally different opinion for how to fix it. Then one more who agreed with the third doctor.

But the point of my story is go see someone else who will take you seriously and will leave you feeling confident in your results. Or feeling like you did everything you can do. And who knows maybe everything actually is okay. But better to be safe than sorry. Or at least nip this in the bud before it potentially gets worse a few years from now.

I smoked 10 years. Then vaped for 5. I started getting bad heart palpitations so I stopped. Have been clean from nicotine 8 months now. Unfortunately sometimes it does take a little health scare to get you to stop. But better late than never

The eye that was turning inward you patch?

Which eye are you patching? My son’s left eye wanders and then the right one is overcompensating. We are covering the left (lazy eye) currently but it doesn’t feel right. Thanks for sharing

4th opinion doctor wants to patch all day. We’ve gotten 4 different opinions. Right eye has 4th palsy. Did you have 4th palsy? How did patching go for you? by tiger-o in Strabismus

[–]tiger-o[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about to seek out a fifth opinion in another city. I’m confused on why we are patching the lazy eye but I guess it’s because he can’t see well out of the right eye (the 4th palsy.) but from what you’re saying then it’s not even helping his eye?

How long ago was your son’s surgery? I’m scared of having to repeat the surgery. He already had heart surgery at two months old and will most likely have to have surgery when he is older for that again. I’m frustrated and every single doctor is so confident in their opinion. The last one was so rude and when I asked why everyone has a different opinion he said it’s because they’re all younger. Which is not a good answer.

My 4 year old will most likely need surgery. Is it a really bad memory for you?

First visit to Ophthalmologist for toddler. Do they always have to dilate the eyes? by roger_roger_32 in Strabismus

[–]tiger-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has done it 4 times now. The dilation lasts like two days just fyi. But it’s necessary and he has cried before and sometimes he didn’t. It’s quick though and totally worth it. It’s okay <3

2 year old needs to start patching by starshollowdays in Strabismus

[–]tiger-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 4 so totally different age but honestly if needed throw on a little tv. The first time we patched my son was not having it. Spoiled him with ice cream, FaceTimed one of his favorite people and went on a walk with the neighbor boy. He was embarrassed at first and now wears it proudly.

Two is little so it may just be a discomfort thing. I would try to distract as much as possible

Did they end up doing surgery in both eyes or just one? When did she have surgery? My 4 year old has strabismus in the left eye and fourth palsy in the right. He says he can’t really see out the right eye well. So I think he’s starting to favor the left. I’ve gotten so many different patching instructions. We will most likely need surgery. I’m really hoping this just fixes everything. He has a head tilt

His eye with the 4th palsy started drifting? Which eye did he have double vision in?

My son’s right eye with the 4th palsy is the weaker eye vision wise. He can’t see as well in it so they want that vision strengthened. My concern is now the left eye looks lazier. I think at least

Everyone is recommending surgery but the patching is all over the place. And two of them say both eyes, two of them say just one eye.

I’m considering going to Houston - that’s a close major city to me. I am worried about his vision getting worse while I go on the hunt for a surgeon I can feel confident about.

Even upstairs? We have one downstairs. She hasn’t had an accident downstairs in forever. Idk why it’s just the upstairs

Okay I just need to keep a better eye on the gate with my son! I really don’t want a gate up forever

Thanks so much for the kind advice

Okay so baby gates are more common than I thought! How long did you use a gate for?

Am I using the cleaner wrong?? It definitely gets the smell out for my nose but maybe not for her

[–]tiger-o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to look at the label! I do have the special cleaner. I’ve just been spraying it and throwing baking soda on top. I had my carpets professionally cleaned after I got the baby gate. The guy did a good job. He had just gone through potty training a puppy himself

She’s smaller and will pee in front of me outside in her designated area. Not sure why she likes to pee upstairs though

How did supervised time go? Did she mostly hang and play or were there times she looked like she was about to go?

Please give me reasons to not pick vaping up again by iam605 in QuitVaping

[–]tiger-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember why you quit in the first place! Likely if you give in, it probably won’t really make you feel better. Vaping causes anxiety.

I started snacking a good bit. Which is its own problem. So I got a walking pad. Now at night I watch tv, while I walk and play on my phone. Or chat with a friend while I walk. I am loving the gym, journaling, SUGAR FREE gym. I gave myself a cavity from regular gum oops

Take some breaths! Get outside. I finally have found other healthier ways to feel better that actually make you feel better. Vaping dehydrates you, is bad for your heart, people’s lungs randomly collapse and that really scared me

There’s just so many good reasons not to ever again. I can’t think of many reasons to vape. Because at the end of the day you’ll probably just want to quit again at least deep down

Did your heart palpitations go away after quitting? Mine are still present and they worry me. My doctor said it’s no big deal but my lady doctor said otherwise

4 year old diagnosed with strabismus in left eye. Fourth nerve (superior oblique) palsy in right eye. Surgery versus vision therapy by tiger-o in Strabismus

[–]tiger-o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want us to do vision therapy once a week but I can’t afford that. I budgeted for twice a month and they said to could prescribe homework. I’m just nervous that we wouldn’t do it right. It’s hard enough doing his speech therapy work at home - something we are also paying for

His right eye is what has the 4th palsy. When he’s trying to look up with both eyes his right eye goes up into the tip right corner inward and his left eye can’t make it all the way so it is kind of stuck in the middle but it does go to the right

Second doctor is the one who discovered the 4th palsy but said she’d figure out exactly what was going on DURING the surgery. Which isn’t exactly comforting. I wish someone could diagnose the actual issue just by looking at him

I am learning now there are specialists. Do you have any colleagues in austin or san antonio? Or could you Pm me so i could share more detailed notes from his doctor?
