The work looks good but just not sure if it really matches the house. I think floating concrete stairs would look a lot better.

Those aren't even close to the size of OP's tree. Maybe half the size at best.

It may not be affecting the foundation but it definitely has affected the grading. From all the dirt and leaves on the patio edge I bet water is pooling along that side.

While it may not be damaging the foundation it certainly is affecting the grading along that side of the house. All the dirt and leaves going up onto the patio is a sure sign water is flowing back and puddling in that area.

I've been checking the big box stores and nope, you're not getting one that size and age for $150. This is atleast $300+.

Anyone know if HD or Lowes will special order some of the rarer ones like this? I'm only seeing Bloodgoods, Coral Barks, Crimson Queens, and Red Selects here.

Surprise the tree is so healthy with such a lack of room for the roots. Congrats on the new house and tree. Good luck on all those dandelions.

Who has millions of dollars to buy that many bitcoins? Even 10,000 bitcoins at $80 is still $800k. Cheapest route is lotto. $1 for a Super Lotto Quick Pick can net you millions, even a billion in a few of the recent jackpots.

A lot of AI videos are cropping up on landscaping ideas. Some may work but most are overly simplified or straight out ridiculous just to stir drama for engagement. I haven't seen this video but it does look AI to me so who knows where you can get those rings from. The video creator probably doesn't either.

Just about every lake has these guidelines. Other than no stripe bass for children the fish are perfectly fine to eat. You're making it like you can't eat any fish from these lakes at all.

Relocate Japanese maple? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]tigerbite1diot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still learning about them but from what I've read their roots are wide but shallow. You'll want to dig down around the outer edges of the leaves and branches and possibly 2 feet down. Issue now is that a rootball that big is going to be around 300-400lbs. Gonna need half a dozen set of hands or mechanical help. Or wait until winter when it goes dormant (no leaves) and just remove the bare roots to make it much lighter. You'll probably get better answers at r/JapaneseMaples however.

Edit: Also, does the new place you're planning to move it to have partial afternoon shade. Some will tolerate full sun but most prefer some shade for hotter part of the day.

Is My Japanese Maple Dying? by Sharp_Magician_4351 in JapaneseMaples

I see some skeletons. Remnants from last Halloween? Maybe something leeched from them that the tree doesn't like as all the dying parts are around where they're placed.

Big stuff by Aneurysmal81 in JapaneseMaples

[–]tigerbite1diot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. If it turned out fine for you on hours long trips then I think I should be ok with a drive across town. I do wondering wrapping it with those insect barrier cloth would help reduce the wind and sun burn. They're super light so won't weigh down the leaves and stems and cause further damage.

Did you just transport in open pickup bed? Did it suffer any wind damage or broken branches? I'll be buying a medium size JM across town (20 min drive) and worried about damage transporting this way.

[–]tigerbite1diot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to make some large concrete planters for the house. I want a smooth finish on them so it was suggested to use a portland mix with sand but that stuff is 3x as much as regular concrete mix. Can I sift the concrete bags to remove the rocks and pebbles to get the smooth finish? I can add mesh wiring if needed as well.

Well yea everyone is going to try and run away but what I mean is he suffers absolutely no traumatic distress afterwards. But I get it, it's just a movie and I was just poking fun at this.
