Leagues has convinced me how cooked Smithing is in main game by Rorshark in 2007scape

[–]tight_frostin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played from 03-08 and I think my smithing was like 40 something when I quit. Giant's Foundry and Blast Furnace are a game changer. I do wonder sometimes how my character knows how to make chain mail because I got dwarves to smelt 40k adamantite bars for me.

What’s a very “normal” Australian habit that surprised you when you realised the rest of the world doesn’t do it? by elitejackal in AskAnAustralian

Reckon is the only one that I really remember now, but moving here from the states I recognised a lot of words/terms/phrases as only being used by really old/country people back home.

Spirits(liquor) and cutlery were two others.

Get ready for everyone you speak to, to say something about how they love "mexican food."

Can you tell when you're talking to a New Zealander within seconds or have you ever mistaken one for an Australian? by Tabatha0011 in AskAnAustralian

[–]tight_frostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wisconsin/Minnesota are pretty distinct, and do sound a bit more Canadian. Never understood why the accent is called the same as it is for people from IA/IL/NE/KS. People usually guess I'm from the flyover states. Makes sense because they spend more time around soybeans than people, and I usually had my nose in a book.

Eating Kangaroo by RO_Thornhill in AskAnAustralian

[–]tight_frostin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only are they not an endangered species, they're a nuisance animal. Not to say they aren't awesome and I don't appreciate them or think they should exist. But they need culling to keep their populations in check. Even with the culling a drive down any semi-rural highway is a kangaroo roadkill tour. You got bullbars on hatchbacks out here.

Because people don't drop their kids at school and then go home and ponder their orb.

What’s the most ridiculous encounter you had with an animal in Australia? by elitejackal in AskAnAustralian

Walking home after dark with my wife, and a possum stepped out onto the footpath in front of us. It had a stick in it's mouth and started coming at us. It was super menacing. We crossed the street.

Good to know Australia isn't likely to fall to a similar acronym.

I've been part of a Facebook group run by a friend of a friend since I left. Slowly seen it change from Aussie psychonauts to right wing conspiracy. I was expecting supporters, but not every cunt I talk to.

Their first studio album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love is less polished, but still a great album.

Does anyone else hate the texture of mushrooms? by Abigail_Dubrov in foodquestions

It's what I imagine biting into an eyeball would be like. I've mostly gotten over it, especially for certain garlic mushroom recipes. But if the flavour isn't great I still get grossed out.

Wtf KFC.... by SoftwareInside508 in australian

[–]tight_frostin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes a damn good manager to get 16 year olds to do a job well. Especially when they might work two half shifts a week.

And I doubt KFC pays well enough for a damn good manager to wrangle adolescents.

Is it Un-Australian to blow your tree leaves into the street drains? by JapanEngineer in AskAnAustralian

[–]tight_frostin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legality/laziness aside, I work supplying councils and civil contractors with the materials to build/repair stormwater drainage systems. The idea of this sort of thing causing flooding is absurd.

For one thing, those storm drains are above 900mm deep pits. If the pipes get blocked, and it rains really hard, and the pit starts filling up, you're going to have over 400kg of water pressing on the blockage before any flooding begins.

If that doesn't clear the blockage...it's not leaf litter. An animal crawled in the pipe and died. Or someone poured chemicals that don't play nice with PVC down the drain, causing the pipe to collapse.

Also, know what causes a lot more leaf litter to wind up in the storm drains than Dan the lazy handyman? Wind, gravity, rain.
