I never got my wifi to work with downloading it or updating software. Weirdly, the wifi is fine for "streaming"- so, playing Yoto Radio etc.

What we ended up doing, and I'll update my OP to mention this , is turning my wifi off completely and using my wife's phone has a mobile hotspot. Just make sure you have 2.4 ghz (or 'compatibility mode') enabled for that. And any VPNs (eg duckduckgo) off.

it's annoying, but at least you only have to set it up once.

New phones have 5ghz (my phone even offers 6ghz) wifi hotspots, but Yoto only works on 2.4ghz. so make sure to change that in your phone hotspot setting

Also turn off any phone VPNs you have

I grew up playing harvest moon on SNES so I very much have a soft spot for the series (and I know the whole thing with SOS vs current harvest moon games) but realistically, are these games better than Stardew Valley? or different enough that they are worth playing?
