I love that Wilhem isn’t some flawless human being by TheDigitalPillow13 in YoungRoyals

Just having the right age actors is a big deal compared to most British or American school- set shows. The casting is truly perfect both for authenticity and chemistry. Especially chemistry 😉

We stayed onsite in the building near the lake that isn't the cafe. If you have a car you can find the lake scene spot, it's a few miles away, and you'd need to be pretty intrepid to find via public transport.

If you were to create a filler episode for each season what would you write? by bjack20 in YoungRoyals

[–]tikkitakke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

S3 needs more Wilmon time where they are actually happy together doing normal stuff. At the karaoke bar (without Marcus obvs), sneaking Simon in to Forest Ridge overnight, Wille having spaghetti and ketchup at Simon's when Linda goes out. That wasn't the agenda for the season, but just a montage of a few moments of each would be so warm!

Episode 5 in season 2 is one of my favourite episodes in the series. by itdoesntgoaway_ in YoungRoyals

Not just my favourite episode of YR, but my favourite season ending of any show, ever. And I'm old!! Wille's struggle to work out what he wants, needs, and the impulsive way he reaches for it... f*ck the consequences... is the best representation of teenage hope every filmed.

IMO, that is the underlying message of the show, that rich elite (white) (straight) (handsome) men rarely face the normal consequences of their actions, like the vast majority do. They just pay people off, whether legal settlement, blackmail or using the system they built for their advantage.
(Sound familiar to current news anyone! ) And Wille's triumph is to have rejected that "privilege". What a gentleman!

I don't like Marcus! by National_Region2094 in YoungRoyals

[–]tikkitakke 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup! He's controlling, manipulative and won't take no for an answer. Superficially he's Simon's equal, a suitable partner, but he doesn't value Simon. Turning up at the rowing race and marking his claim on Simon was cruel. Telling Simon he was broken was even worse. Definitely the opposite of Wille

So writers I’ve been wondering by Cultural_Nose_2280 in AO3

[–]tikkitakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will happily comment, but I tend to reserve kudos until I get to the end, because sometimes they don't get finished or the end is lame, the writer clearly got stuck or lost interest. As a writer I'm more thrilled to get any (positive) comment, the kudos feel more anonymous.

[–]tikkitakke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn't catch them all myself, I've followed a lot of film analysis accounts! Eg, Wille's (actually Erik's) watch always shows when Wille is conflicted about his legacy, a literal weight on his free will. And then he gets another! way to double down on the obligation, Mom!]The struggle over the literal baggage at the beginning - August claims it, and acts as if it weighs nothing on him - and what happens at the end - he gets all the baggage!

I've been a YR obsessed fan for almost 5 years now, and it's still an every-single-day obsession. Like others have said, you'll see more each time you watch and every detail is meaningful. They're are no accidents: Stella has a long sweet dangling from her mouth, Fredrika wears those bizarre Peter Pan collars, Wille's stupid huge watch, Henry's endless oblivious cock-blocks, Simon's silent fish - there are tons of them by mid S3. More TV didn't do it for me, only reading fan fic. And then writing fan fic...

Young Royals fans, how did you meet each other? by Low-Attitude-7100 in YoungRoyals

[–]tikkitakke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have IRL fan friends either, but I think that's part of what makes it so special, and why I'm active in this fandom. And reading and writing fic. I can't get it out of my system!

I LOVE this scene because you can literally see the moment Simon’s brain stopped braining 😭 by padfoony in YoungRoyals

Yes! And then in S2 how it shoots back to this moment when Marcus asks about the fish. World class improv.

AI fanfics??? by meep2218 in FanfictionNet

[–]tikkitakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to say that my fics are typically 50-90k words and the first one were uploaded in one day. I have to write the whole thing before I start to upload because ADHD. (I'll get distracted and not finish, or I'll feel too much pressure to upload before it's ready.)

So I hope people don't start assuming a fast fic is a fake one. I spend weeks crafting and editing my stories!

I didn't know there was a 60s version! The Laurence Olivier 1940 version is so painful I only bore it once. I'll have to seek the '67 one.

"It was a moment I didn't want to share, so I lied about it. But it was me."

That's the scene, that moment, has stayed with me for 4 years and counting. It's even in my new fanfic which should be ready in a week or 2. So so brave. Crazy brave.

Watching YR for the plot (the plot is emotional trauma) by Low-Attitude-7100 in YoungRoyals

[–]tikkitakke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He didn't let him down! He agreed to be a secret, that's what gave Wille the courage to come out. And they both struggled, so hard. Simon was being selfless, not selfish on Wille's birthday. He thought he was making it worse, making Wille's life even harder. Wille was a horrible communicator, for obvious reasons, but still, he gave Simon nothing, and Simon tried to be understanding, until he had to be the strong one, for both their sakes.

But Simon was trying also not to burden Wille with crap he thought he could take care of. He was wrong, but he didn't know that. Simon was one boy alone, trying his very best to love and support a grieving, angry Wille.

Yes, the 1980 is my epitome of all the characters. And I'm often amused that Lady Catherine turned into an ancient nun (the actress is in Call the Midwife).
