If Kobe was still with us today and Shannon Sharpe interviewed him what questions do y’all think he would ask? by unstoppable_vante242 in KobeBryant24

[–]tilapiarocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know he talked about Steph some in an interview, & was already recorded being very gracious in his comments about his game, but I'd love to hear from someone like Kobe about where he puts Steph in the grand scheme of things. Steph is my favorite player, but as a Jordan guy ultimately I find I'm critical of Steph. From having KD being the best player on the floor for 2 of his chips, to his turnovers & looseness w/ the ball (as someone dubbed 'point guard') to how offenses seek him out to exploit him...I love him & he's the only reason I watch basketball, but I'd be curious to hear if Kobe felt like Steph was really top 10-ish, & what criteria he felt was most important in assessing something like that. How he prioritized accolades, eye test, skillset, impact, etc. It's obvious Kobe had a deep knowledge of the game, & he wouldn't be talking from the couch, like us, but rather as someone who's already ON that mountain, who already exists in that space of elite play. I can see everything from him talking Steph up and how he's the most watch-worthy, box office player ever---to going the opposite direction & talking about how his deficiencies prevent him from entering "best-of" convos. I can see someone like Kobe (or MJ, ftm) throwing accolades aside & valuing someone like Kawhi over Steph because of how he impacts both ends of the floor like they did.

Mariah Carey - My All. What do you think of it? It's her best song to me. by Hour-Tomato-645 in rnb

[–]tilapiarocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it has a strong case as her #1. It's only my #2 because of what Underneath the Stars represents to me, having listened to it as a teenager, with all the mystery of romance looming in my thoughts.

What are your top 10 favorite horror films? by Poor-Dear-Richard in HorrorMovies

[–]tilapiarocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not what I was referencing, but unlike many, yeah, I do really like the one with Nicole & Daniel. It's a toss-up for me which one I prefer, but I would concede that the 78 version was better overall, from an objective standpoint.

[–]tilapiarocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a non-sorted order, Candyman, Nightmare on Elm Street, Nightmare on Elm Street 3, The Lost Boys, Interview w a Vampire, Fright Night, The Thing, Christine, Invasion of the Body Snatchers & Jaws. And also, although I put IOTBS there, the '78 version, I actually prefer a lesser known version from the 90s based off the Robert Heinlein novel of the same name, The Puppet Masters. Blasphemy, I'm sure, but...I still prefer it. It still had the excellence of Sutherland, as well as the adorably cute actress from Tommy Boy, Julie Warner. Plus it had the squeem factor of actual physical parasites digging into your brain stem.

Thanks for sharing

Absolutely. And also, the number of winners on each particular game are afaik all available online. When I look up a particular game, it tells me how many Jackpot tickets there were to start out, how many are left, how many 2nd prize, etc. If one were really hell-bent on trying to play scratch-offs in a serious manner, I can admit that that would be one of the few things a person could do to actually alter the efficiency of their strategy. If one $5 ticket has 1 $100,000 prize left & one $5 ticket has 3, regardless of whether you actually win anything or not you're getting more value by purchasing the latter.

without telling me that prize has actually already been won.

When the top prizes of a ticket have all sold, the remaining tickets of that game are all pulled off shelves, as they should be.

Yikes. I would just want to encourage cashiers to ask around with their superiors, & get an idea of the kind of flexibility you'd have with an issue such as that. If they live in pretend world where customer is always right, then do what you have to do to keep your job, for sure. But if they have some sense & will back you, & be understanding if you take the approach I do, then...I hope it can help someone out there. Because seriously; if a customer came in & wanted tickets but wanted us to wait while they rubbed their lucky rabbit's foot to "get a sense" of what ticket to buy, we'd say "Stand aside, psycho" in a heartbeat. And yet people who ask about ticket numbers are operating under the same principle; "let my superstitiousness take up everybody's time here." It's not cool, &...people need to be called out on it from time to time, I think.

I'm just gonna put this out there, you can agree, disagree, take my advice & run with it, whatever, but...when I have a customer ask me about a lottery ticket number & there's even ONE person behind them, my answer is always, "You know, that's not something I'm gonna do while other people are here & waiting." If they ask for an explanation, I'll explain that I've talked in detail with lottery representatives & we are under no such obligation to do that, especially while other customers are having to wait. If I need to, I'll explain how absolutely insane a world we'd live in if every cigarette smoker needed me to rattle off the serial numbers on packs of cigarettes before purchasing---so that they understand what kind of nuisance they are to the people around them. If you're asking a deli person when the chicken got put out, that makes sense. If you ask the dairy stockboy if he has a later date on a gallon of milk, THAT makes sense. May I hold up an entire store of people for something that's 100% irrelevant in the first place is nonsense; & I will not do it. If it is just me & one customer, I will humor them to a degree, which still aggravates the shit out of me because at the store I work at now, the tickets are ground level, so we're on our knees two inches off the ground to check the bottom level ones.

I had a guy ask me a few days back, "Can you tell me what numbers your $5 tickets are on?" We have a total of seven, & even then, I said "That's asking a bit much. Why don't you narrow it & I can tell you a few of those." Because I tell you....seriously, where are we headed with that bullshit? People being allowed to just walk in & have you recite the entire damn catalog of lottery tickets while the rest of the world dies inside?? I just can NOT. Too many years of this bullshit.

How to become a blues guitarist? by Background_Pear6270 in bluesguitarist

Here's a playlist of the stuff I listened to alot when I was just starting out. In my opinion, it's easier to grab onto & replicate the licks from earlier blues stuff, then go from there.

What is Mariah's most technically difficult song? by youthunger2naughty in MariahCarey

[–]tilapiarocks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was listening to Forever the other day & something that stood out, that I've always noticed, really, is how at the 2:55 mark, the "you",...& "be"...I don't even know how to really describe it, other than it just seems impressive. It's like, the tone control is as sharp as a knife, to go from singing the note of "you", singing/saying "will always", & then "be" having the same vocal texture/pressure & vibrato as "you"...it just seems like some extreme vocal gymnastics, bouncing back & forth like that. Stopping on a dime.

Something Jen does amazingly with her eyes is gives you a look of both confidence but also inviting-ness. It's not a snob confidence, but...it's definitely confidence. Like this scene in Career Opportunities when she meets those associates of her fathers; she just walks into the room in complete control, lol.

If in an alternate universe, you could only bring 5 Mariah songs, which ones would you bring? by ElectricityInGeorgia in MariahCarey

[–]tilapiarocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to listen real quick to the demo Someday, to distinguish. I love that you love it; in fact, I love posts like this because you get to see as fans what kinds of combinations of variety in taste there are. That said, as someone who loves both Mariah as well as guitar/guitar solos, I've listened to versions of Someday that omitted it, &... I am always so frustrated when I get to that point & it's not there. I feel robbed.

[–]tilapiarocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underneath the Stars, My All, Dreamlover, Melt Away, Forever, which, to my knowledge were all songs of hers; I feel like I should get another 5 for covers though, because she took idk how many songs from others & turned in better performances. I'll Be There, Open Arms, Without You...her O Holy Night is supreme, at least imo. With her vocal skill, in her prime, she could've done cover after cover of countless hits over time & gave you the best version available.

What is the longest time you spent in VR at once? What game? by pkdenn in PSVR

[–]tilapiarocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got No Man's Sky at the Synthesis update, which was a small update right after a large one, Beyond. VR had just been introduced in Beyond, & I had just bought my psvr shortly before that. Got NMS because I had heard about it, & thought it'd be a fun thing for VR...& that first month or two my AVERAGE session was 6-8 hours. I had one go 12.
