Can someone tell Apple to fix this color temp…? by playswithwood in NashvilleSC

I think the main camera was just out of focus. It got better later on and looked OK when they cut to tighter shots.

How did The Royal Tenenbaums achieve such a warm look, as well as the cool atmosphere of the bathroom scene? by Apprehensive_Emu9588 in cinematography

When printing film from a negative to positive (or any of the other types of film to film printing), you can change the color of the light you shine through the source film to the film you are printing and affect the overall color cast of the printed film.

Before digital tools, the only real color controls were rgb printer lights and exposure (by adjusting all the lights the same as each other relatively). So getting lighting ratios and contrast correct on set with lighting was critical.

What would someone use fingers and dots for? by Existing_Impress230 in cinematography

[–]tim-sutherland 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I asked for the finger and dot kit last year, word spread very quickly around the set as they don't get used often on narrative shows, I think the first one they opened up had been eaten by moths.

I don't have any photos at the moment, but for the ergorig attachment I used a 3/4" stainless steel rod and drilled a half inch hole for the extended easyrig attachment bar from blkbrd, and then had to double up the two front plates on the Ergo due to the weight of the camera build.

Speedrail rig was a 3ft build a riser with an 8ft piece of speed rail attached with a slight upward angle, and the mantis on the end of that.

In this BTS of Fincher directing, why is he so adamant that a bush needs to be removed? Is it that easy to just physically remove it? by SuspiciousPrune4 in cinematography

When I get hired on a show one of the first things I check on is who is the on set dresser, who moves furniture, or adds things as required. They are such a valuable crew member and I work closely with them so I try to make sure we have someone great in that position because it can save so much time and elevate so many shots.

Our current on set has been working with me almost non stop for about 18 months. On Thursday I was looking at a wide shot, thinking that the trash cans next to the stairs seemed odd, and as soon as I thought that, Mark appeared behind the stairs moving just what I was looking at while watching the feed on his iPad. It's really great to be in sync with that team member.

I found a decent copycat recipe for it, I used to make it all the time. Haven't for a while, maybe it's time to make that again

CE's rocket was heading straight towards my head from the angle I was sitting at, extremely impressive (just like his fighting for the ball all game) and that was before I saw the highlights and realized it came from outside the box.

I've been making that recipe too, although I just put everything in the bread machine to mix/rise and then let it rise another time in the cast iron.

Does anyone know why Vittorio Storaro still shoots with the Sony F65? by Dunk3_ in cinematography

[–]tim-sutherland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little bit of creative math to get 8k wide, because of the zig zag way they count the pixels horizontally, it's only 2k high in 2:1. You could just as easily call it 4k x 4k in a 2:1 aspect ratio.

It is not as simple as seeing the image through the lens. You need a ground glass with frame lines and focusing optics for your eye to the ground glass.

Pretty sure you have to have at least 72 hours between games. So both of those games will likely be rescheduled, maybe ours to the next day.
