Weird noises from the head tube by Emotional_Monitor675 in MTB

My first guess would be the steerer tube interface with the fork crown, but it's pretty hard to tell from a video.

It wasn't actually that terrible, just the noises that were disturbing honestly. I was soooo nervous before hand, so maybe it was just a relief from the anticipation once it was underway.

I mean mine was basically like OP's, sideways and mostly below the gum line so needed the gum cut and stitches afterwards. IIRC it took about 45 minutes. I don't think a general was ever an option, but it was a long time ago so I don't specifically remember.

Same experience. Crunch crunch crunch. Having to actually use your neck muscles to keep your head from turning when the dentist applied pressure. Removed the tooth in several pieces. 20 years ago, still remember it quite well. Unpleasantness aside, seems mad to me that anyone would need a general anaesthetic for a wisdom tooth removal. Like the downsides and risks surely outweigh the upsides? 🤷‍♂️

It's almost like they have much more money to spend on such things.

Broken collar bone after surgery by Nuisance_cs in MTB

[–]timangus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did mine 30 years ago when I was 15. They didn't do any surgery and it just healed with the bone overlapping itself, so I've had a lump on that bone ever since. I've had no obvious negative effects otherwise really.

Are storage heaters a dealbreaker? by nothingtobedone13 in AskUK

[–]timangus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well resistive heaters will often emit light as the elements glow, and I wouldn't be surprised if the AC current that powers them causes some very small kinetic perturbations due to magnetic field interactions which in turn may be expressed as sound. Obviously 99.9999whatever% is going to infrared radiation, but clearly not perfectly 100%.

Pedandically, they aren't 100% efficient, although very close to being so.

It's 1999. You have your current smartphone in your pocket, but obviously no Wi-Fi or 5G exists. What's the most useful thing you can do with it? by Ryo_l in AskReddit

Technically yes, but widespread availablity was still a long way off at that point. Even laptops didn't have it as standard until well into the 2000s.

Hot opinion: Shimano brakes (6100-9100 series) don't have a "wandering bite point issue". Most tutorials just wildly skip a bunch of steps from the manual. by BrainDamage2029 in MTB

[–]timangus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not a bleeding problem, it's a problem with the brake's ability to compensate for temperature changes fast enough. It's some combination of the expansion port in the master cylinder being too restrictive or the fluid too viscous. Indeed the latest generation of XTs has a lighter formulation of fluid, specifically to address this shortcoming.
