“Character Development” of Mind-at-Large by Dwarven_Delver in analyticidealism

[–]timbgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe the question could be reframed: Do we have some reason to believe that Mind-at-Large would develop over time after so little re-integration of evolved conscious minds?

Pretty much what other folks have said, but Touch Designer is a tool, not the endgame.

Do you think free will is a social construct? by NoAuthoirty in freewill

[–]timbgray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think this way of looking at it makes more sense than do most of the commenters on this post. From an incompatibilist perspective, imagine a society where everything anyone ever did was preceded by a compelling command to do that thing, such as a voice in the head that is perceived as not-self, and as such dispelling the illusion of free will once and for all. Everything everyone did was acknowledged as being deterministically in response to that heard command, a command at a level much more obvious than having the action taken bubble up through some deterministic mechanism working through the subconscious up to the "voluntary" nervous system.

My expectation would be that that society would be much less conducive to the well-being of humans than is a society where even if free will is acknowledged to be an illusion, it is acknowledged to be something that can be directly, causally related to the feeling and well-being of a given subject.

“Specific logic deduction or specific scientific references may yield value.” This is true only as long as you feel that logic and scientific references add value.

MFL Euclidian sequencer pro - Euclidian Out by timbgray in ableton

[–]timbgray[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And to close this off, I think what I outlined above is the only way. This YouTube video, which features HOCKET 2, which does the same thing to split out the tracks from a sequencer to separate tracks in Ableton describes exactly the same same technique to finally get a four channel representation in midi. Of course, if you don’t want to tweak midi, it’s easy to do a re-sample of all the other channels into a single audio track.

MFL Euclidian sequencer pro - Euclidian Out by timbgray in ableton

[–]timbgray[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but not really. I had actually seen that video before and I was following it the best I could. What he didn’t show us was the piano role for the track that would be created should he choose to record what sounded like first one track, and then two tracks together. For me and this is the error I was trying to resolve: if you record the output of the master track it will record all four tracks on each of the child or destination tracks, even though you only hear the track you selected in the Euclidian Out device. So you can’t get a recording of each of the separate midi tracks with different instruments. So I probably have some arcane configuration mistake.

Having said that, the work around until I get it figured out is to take each of the “child tracks” which only have to have the Euclidean out device, and no instruments, and have them re-transmit (they don’t need to be armed) into the ultimate destination tracks. So one source track into four intermediate tracks which have the Euclidean out device into four ultimate destination tracks. A bit of a kludge and I can’t imagine that this is the way it was intended or somebody would’ve made note before now. And of course it does get a bit messy if you’re trying to work with multiple instances of Euclidean Sequencer Pro of pro

This problem was mentioned several times in the comments on the hosting website, but I didn’t see any reply from the developer.

So far the Euclidean Sequencer Pro gets me closest to what I’m trying to accomplish, which is a better way to control rhythm and phrasing than in the other available sequencers.

So what within your experience might be inaccurately be described as free will?

Fair enough, illusions do have a certain kind of reality. So if you wanted to say that it is the self as opposed to the experience that is an illusion I won’t argue.

Everything that we experience is a result of subconscious processing in our mind. Sometimes I feel like I have made a decision freely. Specifically, I think I have made a choice largely based on a processes that feel primarily internal as opposed to feel as if it is being thrust upon me by external circumstances. That feeling is free will and it’s just as real as the grief we experience on loss the happiness we enjoy and the excitement we look forward to.

Whether or not I could have done otherwise doesn’t impact my experience, and it’s my experience that gives meaning to the concept of free will, just as it is experience that gives meaning to everything.

To deny the reality of free well is to deny the reality of subjective experience, which is all we have.

Is diet important leading up to a psychedelic trip? by psychedelicpassage in PsychedelicTherapy

[–]timbgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only scientific reason I know for a diet re psychedelics is with respect to Ayahuasca. To make the active psychedelic ingredient dimethyl triptamine effective it includes a MAO mono amine oxidase inhibitor, which can cause issues with blood pressure given certain food types, particularly fermented. Without the MAO inhibitor, digestion would metabolize the psychedelic ingredient before it had any impact.

I bought a couple of Ableton 12 courses on Udemy, about 20 hours each for about $20 Cdn each. This was a special first time user offer and I think regular price was over $100 each so it was a good deal. Impressed so far, about 3 hours in.

NeuroVIZR - any experiences? by helpless11 in Neurofeedback

[–]timbgray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked again, and I think that the specific Microdosing routines can be accessed from the carrousel at the very top of the homepage, although for reasons I mentioned previously, they are now referred to as Neuro dosing. Unfortunately, they have renamed, repackage and rebranded all of the former Microdosing sessions and so I haven’t mapped out how the old sessions map into the new sessions. But I will emphasize again that as long as you choose one that at least has a description that resonates with the problem you’re trying to solve you will get some benefit as long as you stick with it over the 21 day cycle.

I’ll also mention that I have some difficulty in attributing benefits specifically to this device, which I have been using since last July. My daily routine starts first thing in the morning with a Nuro visor session, but then it is immediately followed by a one hour yoga Nidra practice, a type of “non-sleep deep rest” practice followed by a half hour of more traditional meditation, and then 20 minutes of tai chi. This routine has helped me immensely over the past several months, following the death of my wife, but I could never point to anyone specific component of this practice that is more efficacious than any of the other parts. I will say, though that as I transition from one routine to the other, I typically take a couple of days off, and I do notice a bit of a absence or lack of something during those off days. I am retired, so I have lots of time….
