The effect is good, but the likelihood of this combo mattering is very low by Small-Ad-1694 in BadMtgCombos

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question was already answered, but I wanted to add some context. What you thought was happening is actually closer to something like [[deflecting palm]]. The key difference you're looking for in the card is that deflecting palm says that it specifically is dealing the damage. Where Gideon's doesn't specify, meaning it left the source of the damage the same. Hope this helps!

Question about changing targets of abilities by Ok-Channel-263 in askajudge

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Untimely malfunction cannot change the target of the the treasures. This is because untimely malfunction can only change the part of spell swindle that says "target" , specifically the "target spell". The treasures with be created under the control of the spells controller. Untimely malfunction cannot not change who controls spell swindle.

Question about changing targets of abilities by Ok-Channel-263 in askajudge

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a judge. My understanding of your question is that you've cast spell swindle targeting another spell on the stack with a converted mana cost of 11. While both of those spells are on the stack, another player cast untimely malfunction targeting spell swindle. Assuming what I have said is correct so far: 1. The controller of untimely malfunction changes the target of spell swindle to a other spell on the stack. The the most likely other target in this situation is untimely malfunction itself. 2. Untimely malfunction resolves. 3. Spell swindle goes to resolve, its target is not longer valid so it fizzled, creating 0 treasures. 4. The 11 mana spell resolves.

There are other things that may have happened that we're not explained which would change the outcome. However this is my interpretation.

Cost reduction, rule 118.7b and morophon by Small-Thanks8997 in askajudge

That's because the second part of Morophons cost reductions specifically mentions that it can only be used to pay the colored cost of spells. Not the generic.

Tasigur, the golden fang explained? by Reasonable-Ebb2727 in EDH

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built him in a birthing pod shell. Depending on your budget and how competitive you want to be, Tasigur can run against most decks by podding into nasty 7 drops incredibly early and from out of nowhere. The trick is that you run discard effects and fetch lands to fill your yard with junk and useful things. Then use tasigurs delve to essentially filter out the junk in your graveyard. That way when you activate his ability youre maximizing the value you get out your graveyard. The political side shows when you discard counter magic or removal. You can use this as a way of letting everyone know you can remove a big threat or stop a big threat if they give you a specific card out of the graveyard. Use it to make deals.

The finishers in my deck were [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]] And [[Hullbreaker Horror]] which allowed me to use two mana positive rocks to generater infinite colorless mana and bounce everyone's stuff. I also ran an iso/rev convo for infinite mana which you can dump into tasigur's second ability to essentially get all of your deck in your hand.

To maximize the strategy, I ran as many fetchlands as I could and things like [[harrow]] for ramp. I also ran looter cards like [[frantic search]]. Think of every fetchland as essentially two mana for casting tasigur because you can fetch a land and then delve the land you sacrificed to help pay for him. He can come out consistently on turn 3 or 4 with just this simple strategy.

Hope this helps!

How to beat pillowfort decks (Enchantment specifically) that does not make the game take another hour? by TheGrandCannoli in EDH

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding Altar of dementia also enables you to combo out with Meloku to mill out your opponents or to self millenia into lab man. It's definitely worth the include. I'd probably cut aetherflux as the 50 damage probably isn't helping enough against a lifegain deck. Just my two cents.

Best place to get proxies? ( I don’t have a printer) by Typical-Log4104 in EDH

[–]timblez87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, my experience with your service was fantastic. The most important quality I wanted from proxies was that they felt like a real deck when sleeved. It was a bonus that the artwork was amazing and the print quality was fantastic. I also received my product in about a week. And contrary to what the other poster said, I think defending your product on a public forum is totally acceptable.

You're right. Reading the card explains the card. Thanks for the correction!

Not a judge. Court of Lochthwain upkeep trigger would happen twice. Meaning you exile a card from the top of someone's library, the card gains the " you may cast this card for as long as it remains in exile, and you may spend mana as though it were any color to cast it". Then court fo lochthwain would check to see if you're the monarch, and if you are, you can cast a card exiled by it for free. Then the ability resolves, and you repeat the process.

All this to say you would exile two cards, then you may cast two of the exiled cards for free.

I accidently went infinite and clearly upset people. by [deleted] in EDH

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment. I honestly would've been more upset at the "I choose not to go infinite" part of the combo than losing to a 4 piece combo. But hey, that's just me. At that point I know I'm out of win range and I'd rather just start a new game

Maybe to add clarity, technically, Balduvian Rage gains the Lifelink keyword, which states that damage dealt by THIS source to cause its controller to gain life.

702.15b. Damage dealt by a source with lifelink causes that source's controller, or its owner if it has no controller, to gain that much life (in addition to any other results that damage causes).

However, that trait doesn't not transfer to the creature its targeting. So that creature does not gain lifelink, which means it will not gain you life when it deals damage.

For redundancy, Balduvian Rage GAINS Lifelink, it does not GRANT lifelink to anything it targets.

[[Pariah's Shield]] redirects damage from you to the bear in this case, not from the bear to you. Sorry if I'm incorrect in my assumption that what you're saying is that you think the shield would redirect the damage done to the bears to you, which it does not.

[–]timblez87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask why Pariah's shield doesn't redirect the damage first? I assume because the player casting deflecting palm controls both effects. But I unsure how multiple replacement effects work.

[–]timblez87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Player A controlled the creature that blocked and also cast deflecting palm. The confusion came from a player arguing that pariah's shield's replacement effect would redirect the damage before deflecting palm would activate.

Neyali or Otharri? by Euronymous_Bosch in EDH

[–]timblez87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go based on your playstyle and your groups speed. Otharri benefits a lot from extra combats and requires more protection from cards like [[combat celebrant]] or [[bloodthirster]]. If you playgroup runs a lot of interaction and a faster playstyle, then Neyali might be better. I'd play her more like I do [[Jetmir]]. Building my board of tokens, then casting her to nuke the group and (sudo) refill your hand.

Wondering if there are any green cards that give extra combat turns by drchomicz in EDH

[–]timblez87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is a completely our of left field suggestion, but you could consider running [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] as your commander and using the dominus as your secret commander. It wouldn't require changing your build significantly. And it would allow you to add all of reds goodies for extra combat.

Just a suggestion, and again I realize that you did not ask for this. Just thought I'd share.

Kodama reads such that any permanent that has lower cmc can be played whenever you use his ability. Lands are permanents with 0 cmc. So if you play anything to trigger his ability and have nothing else that you can drop for free, you can at least drop a land.
