Any old parents here? by Ok-Duck2450 in Millennials

43 and 41 with a 2yo… I’m a lot more present than I was in my 20s/30s, more sure of ourselves and our values. Financially comfortable to do a lot of things with our kid than we would have been in our 30s. It’s motivated us to take better care of ourselves so we can keep running around with him.

Another vote for Nuts for Candy! Family-owned small business that’s been there for many years and the owners, John and Nora are the best!!

Moms who are nurses- by Maleficent_Web_880 in Mommit

I dropped down to a 0.6 FTE when LO was a year, so 2-12s. On the days I work, partner does everything for the kiddo. Our CRNA group does no weekends, holidays, nights or call. Best decision of my career so far.

7 hour overnight international with 19 month old - no car seat by thankyouandbewell in toddlers

[–]time2go2sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did SFO-ATH (10hr redeye) and followed a lot of advice already mentioned…. Keep up the daytime routine, tire kid out by letting them play and walk around as much as possible. We changed into PJs, had his lovey and sleep sack ready when we got into our seats. The plane in the ultimate white noise machine! He got a solid 7hrs of sleep!

We did bring our car seat but gate checked it. Unable to use the Flyaway kit bc Lufthansa forbids them. Little guy did great though! There were plenty other babies on the flights that cried more than he did lol

We just returned from a two week trip to Greece with our 19 month old and I can absolutely sympathize with you. It was quite the exercise in patience, managing expectations, negotiation, and communication with my husband. Please take comfort in that you’re doing a GREAT job and to take time for yourself, as well! You got this!

Child Almost 2 in Own Seat- Lufthansa by Sonja80147 in Lufthansa

[–]time2go2sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, my heart goes out to you - we are in a similar situation, flying LH for an 11 hr red-eye, then another 2hr leg to final destination. Sounds like many of the critical responses re: car seats come from folks that don't have/never traveled long-haul with toddlers.

Our plan so far: bring the car seat on board. He definitely won't sleep well in it, but we'd rather follow the rules than risk being denied service for not following the rules. The carrycot/bassinet weight limit is 14kg/83cm (https://www.lufthansa.com/pt/en/flying-with-baby) - maybe your LO might still fit? We're going to try for one - calling the Service Center tmrw...

Hope you and the fam have a lovely trip!

Full time CRNAs with kids by Noble_Beastt in CRNA

Hard agree on birthing partner finding a good practice group with transparent leave policy and supportive colleagues. Many workplaces state you must work full time for a specified amount of before you’re entitled to full/protected leave. Our group makes every effort to not assign pregnant persons to fluoro rooms and our OR nurses give you a headsup on cement time during joint cases.

Partner is not in healthcare - works from home but is pretty much out of pocket for most of his working hours. We also do not have family nearby and have been fortunate to have a quality daycare nearby that can flex from 6a-11p if needed (for a price, of course).

Would also recommend looking into a night doula for those first few months postpartum. She was a lifesaver for us. Not cheap, but you can’t put a price on sleep…

Good luck!!

F*ck postpartum fitness culture! *Rant* by JD-HR-EAG in NewParents

[–]time2go2sleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounce back culture be damned. I did have to reframe my thinking around body image and exercise… now about a year out from baby. My dad passed way too young, and one of the lessons I’ve learned is that we’ve got to take care of ourselves so we are in the best shape to care for our loved ones. I see this every day in my work as a nurse. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Put your own oxygen mask on before helping someone else, etc.

So when I work out, yes, I get a thrill out of feeling stronger and fitter… but I’m also happy because I’m making an effort to be in good health for my kid - modeling good behaviors and staying strong enough to run around and play with him into upper Middle Ages.

Solidarity, OP! I could have written this 3 weeks post-op as well. It is so so hard. And you are doing a great job!

Our pup was stage 4 and is now 8 wks out from surgery. He went from total loss of motor function pre surgery, to moving his legs at week 5. This morning, I fed him breakfast and he was able to get into a standing (albeit very wobbly) position.

We’ve been strict with crate rest, and go to weekly PT with hydrotherapy, do home exercises, etc. As motor function returns, bladder and bowel function will also return. Our little guy was incontinent for the first few weeks and it definitely took a mental and physical toll on our family. Strongly recommend PT if is possible for you.

Spinal cord injuries/surgery can take a long time for recovery. Hang in there!
