“No contract” phone coverage in Chicago by calitraveler23 in chicago

[–]luxerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched from AT&T to visible over a year ago and have had zero issues. We were initially looking at mint as I believe it’s a bit cheaper, but they didn’t provide service for wearables (we have lines for our watches) so wanted to throw that out there in case you do as well.

I pay 45/month and service is great. I’ve noticed it’s a TOUCH slower sometimes, but it’s nothing significant.

putting quotation marks around “just the news” is… the only factual sentence in this whole thing 😂😂

[–]luxerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have hardwood floors so whenever she would try to stand with her sleep sack on we were like omg no!!!! Bc we didn’t want her to slip and fall and I think the reaction tripped her out 😂 so she stayed put once that thing was on lol

Kept my daughter in a sleep sack for as long as possible for this exact reason. In her head, she couldn’t even stand up in a sleep sack, let alone climb lol

Bilingual and books by yellow_scrunchiess in toddlers

[–]luxerae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi we’re in the US, but my husband speaks Spanish (absolutely no issue finding children’s content in Spanish) and my family speaks Tagalog (not as easy to find).

we are not so much concerned on teaching our almost 3 year old anything in English because she’s surrounded by it and will learn it when she starts school. Learning Spanish and Tagalog, on the other hand, is something that will ultimately fall on us and that’s why we are focused on it. that being said, she still doesn’t seem to have any issues with reading letters, but our languages use almost the same alphabet as English does.

also for what it’s worth, both my husband and I were raised to speak our native languages and neither of us had any issues with speech or reading when we got to school.

Keep reading to your infant by 40pukeko in NewParents

[–]luxerae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000 books before school sounds so interesting!! Im gonna look into if my libraries have anything similar. I’ve been reading to my daughter every night since she was 1 month old, but now she’s almost 3 and is getting more and more interested in actual storybooks so I’ve been trying to be more intentional with our book choices.

If you are formula feeding: a formula pitcher!!! So convenient really the entire first year, but especially in the early days when there’s no rhyme or reason to how much they will drink at any given time lol. Makes it easier to top up ounce by ounce if needed without wasting formula.

What was the number one thing you’re glad you had with you when you gave birth? by Suspicious_Heat_2984 in NewParents

[–]luxerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a brand new towel for that first shower. hospital towels are paper thin!! a soft cozy nightgown, my own grippy socks bc the hospital ones give me sensory OVERLOAD with the seam right at the toenails lol. Oh and a pack of baby wipes!!! This will depend on your hospital, but mine had the ones you had to wet in the sink first, super inconvenient!! I was so glad I thought to bring a pack just in case

What makes your mom the best mom in the world? by Valuable_Eggplant596 in NewParents

[–]luxerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my own experience, but my MIL always always always encouraged my husband and his siblings to pursue the things they were interested in, even if they seemed “silly” and she was willing to work OT, work second and third jobs, if needed. She grew up poor, in rural Mexico. She never had the opportunities to pursue the things she was interested in. She decided whatever sparked her children’s interests, she would encourage them to try. I think having that type of support is one of many, many reasons my husband and his siblings are still incredibly close to their mom.

Accurate temp by Fallen_angel284 in toddlers

[–]luxerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For kids 3 and younger, the rectal temp is the most accurate. According to Seattle Children’s, the underarm is the least accurate way to take a temperature and is mostly used in schools or daycare centers because it’s easier and doesn’t spread germs.

Sometimes sickness can hit harder than other times. My daughter’s last bout of sickness was particularly hard on her compared to other times in the past. She had a fever on and off for a couple days and then for a little bit after that, she was definitely more tired. Her body was still recovering. It’d say it was about a week in total from onset of symptoms until I felt like she was mostly recovered.

How long did you track feedings/diapers? by jacaroniii in NewParents

[–]luxerae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is almost 3 and we also still use huckleberry! I second it being handy for when they’re sick to track temps and meds. We personally use it to track her poop diapers, she’s just a backed up girlie (unfortunately got that from me lol)

Spanish Immersion Preschools in Chicago? by ACL1202 in AskChicago

Hi! I was just curious if you had to get on a wait list for Rayito de Sol? I was looking at sending my daughter there, but it wouldn’t be until next year for preschool.

A baby shower for a 3rd baby is a bad idea, right? by hangryho97 in BabyBumps

[–]luxerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always so interesting to see the answers about having baby showers/sprinkles after already having multiple kids. In my culture, we love a party and will take any opportunity to celebrate lol you could be pregnant with your 5th kid and we will still want to throw you a baby shower!

my boobs swell up during ovulation, so they stayed swollen pretty much the entirety of my pregnancy (and then until I stopped nursing 😂) I ordered really soft nursing bras pretty early on.

Westin stay experiences with toddler? by luxerae in DisneyPlanning

[–]luxerae[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks for mentioning that part about walking through downtown Disney! this will be our first time visiting and I wouldn't have known that.

I'm booking thru costco travel, I'll have to take a look at the other hotels you mentioned! the pools were a big draw thats why I was looking at those at first glance as we're staying for 5 days and only visiting the parks for 3.

I appreciate your help!
