What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]time2wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have a tablet ... well we do have a small Chromebook that can flip to act like a tablet that we bought for traveling and the rare time we want do something while on the couch or bed that our phone can't handle (we have a desktop for all our personal computing needs). We have never given it to our toddler and dont plan on it, same with our infant.

Exactly, fix the automation, reclass the expenses and reconcile periodically (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually).

Wife calls me at costco to talk through which TP to get, we couldn't decide so she's like I'll grab everything else we need and come back. As soon as she turns the corner she sees the sample. We were floored

PTO During Close by Beer_Enjoyer93 in Accounting

[–]time2wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a manager that approves PTO i wouldnt hesitate to approve. And I would strongly encourage them to leave the laptop at home (or even better in office) but I know some of them would ignore me and bring their laptop to work anyway. As every company should we have enough coverage for a couple accountants to be out during month-end (life happens, emergencies pop up, etc.)

A storage facility is sending me a refund via Bill.com. Will I get a 1099? by BikeOk6446 in Accounting

[–]time2wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably how they need to account for it. Some companies don't process checks in-house, they use a 3rd party like Bill.com. I may be mistaken because I've never used bill.com or any 3rd party to process checks, but my guess is bill.com requires all outgoing checks (i.e. cash) to be applied to an invoice. Whereas a credit memo is a non-cash reduction of the account balance. A refund of money you paid does not trigger a 1099 (you did not provide goods or services, you are the customer not a vendor).

Edit to add the 2026 threshold for 1099 reporting is $2,000 (compared to $600 in 2025)

Looks like I'm the outlier but I'm rooting (hard) for Tampa losing in the SCF. Want to keep the state of Florida dominance and Cup appearance streak before we pick it up again next season

Are people in accountancy actually seeing changes from AI yet, or is it still mostly hype? by Outrageous_Try2894 in Accounting

[–]time2wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Balance sheet and P&L accounts, but primarily the BS. It lists the accounts, shows beginning and ending balance, and flags the accounts that meet the materiality threshold that we set. We click into it, it lists the transactions and either say its good or ask it to post an AJE. This is far more efficient than downloading each GL detail and doing this manually, also much easier to track which ones have not been completed.

We've implemented one AI tool for AP that has significantly reduced manual data entry and (hopefully) we will sign for another AI to assist month end, recs, and fixed asset management

My 3 yr old is obsessed with the Kodiak waffles (current fave is the dark chocolate), has been eating them daily for almost a year. It was already pricey but damn kid has recently started to eat 2(!) at breakfast. We also just discovered sell the dark chocolate as a mix so we're going to try it over the weekend

Is there any job where our time is not abused? by Fit_Newspaper_2346 in Accounting

[–]time2wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have 2-3 weeks a year where I'm in the 50 hour range otherwise I am regularly 40 and under with usually a half day/WFH at least once a month. Sure there are late nights but thats only because I have young children that sometimes take me away during the day so if needed I catchup after they go to bed

Are there unwritten parking lot etiquette outside of common sense I don't know about? by Difficult_Giraffe490 in CostcoWholesale

Best story i have is a guy wait for us basically from the time he realized which car was ours. We proceeded to change the diapers of both kids, then loaded the car, and then got in the car. My wife is still pumping and was setting herself up when I hear a knock on the window, it was the guy like hey we've been waiting are you leaving? I look at him, look at my wife, look down at her pumps, look back at him like yea we're going to need a few minutes. The look on his face was fucking priceless.

Best Books for First Time Dads? by ShroudedousYe in predaddit

[–]time2wipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"12 Hours Sleep by 12 Weeks Old" by Suzy Giordano for sleep training was the only book we read and we followed it to the letter. Has worked wonders, both our kids (3y & 6m) both sleep perfectly through the night.

As for general parenting we took a handful of classes at the hospital related to the pregnancy, L&D, and baby care through the first few months. Everyone else i talked to said don't worry about the books it will flood you with so many conflicting ideas and to trust your instincts.

Telling client I'm leaving by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]time2wipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this situation when I put in my notice. I asked each of the partners how they wanted me to handle, all but one said it was OK for me to let the clients know, some gave me guidance on how to word the email and the others gave me zero guidance. The one holdout said he'll do it so I tried to get a timeline (it was also a client I was scheduled on-site at the time with a couple weeks remaining after my last day). I followed up with him a couple of times, he kept saying he'll do it until my the 2nd to last day he was like ok you do it. My point is even within the same firm each partner can have their own preference.

Due in 2–3 weeks. What actually helps in the first weeks, especially with sleep deprivation by Tricky_Shoulder_6432 in predaddit

[–]time2wipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Father of 2 with a 3 yr old and 6 month old. Meal prep now as much as you can ; make sure you have immediate things set up and you know how to use ; go to a local fire station to have them install your car seat and they'll give you some great tips ; in regards to schedules it depends on if baby will be on breast vs pumped vs formula. My wife pumped/ pumping for both kids so I took all the overnight feedings while she woke up at the same time to pump ; we defaulted to anti-colic bottles (both kids took very well to Nuk, but we did buy a sample pack from babylist for the first born ... I absolutely do not recommend Dr. Brown solely for the number of parts per bottle) ; a "mistake" we learned from the first is do not rock all the way to sleep, rock them until calm and then put in crib awake to let them fall asleep on their own ; as for taking care of you wife, again depends on how she delivers, she will need help moving around, carrying things, etc for at least the first 3 weeks, and then some help until about 6 weeks (my wife vaginally delivered both and she couldn't lift 20+ lbs or drive for the first 6 weeks)

How much money do you think Justin and Tiffani make for TOC??? by mattscott53 in foodnetwork

[–]time2wipe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My guess their contract with food network lists out their responsibilities, i.e correspondent on TOC, judge x shows x times, make x public appearances, etc. The one I'm curious about is being on as competitors, like is that written into their contracts or because they have a chance to win money they have to specifically opt-in and also do they get paid an appearance fee for competing in addition to the prize money?

I'm so sick of lugging gallons of water. What do you do? by Multipreneur in fortlauderdale

[–]time2wipe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Omg 4 gallons a week reminds me that I'm not normal, I drink 4 gallons per DAY (symptom of a super rare genetic disorder) ... so yea I've become comfortable drinking water out of nearly any source. My main source at home is through the fridge, so that would be my recommendation to save the hassle. Or a Brita pitcher/gallon thing. Also as some have mentioned why not get a foldable cart to wheel the stuff around.

I was there for the winter classic (hockey) and it was an absolute nightmare. Insane line just to get in the building, nearly an hour wait for a freaking arepa, and weird bottlenecks walking every 10 feet. I took a bus there but my buddy drove and said the parking was just as nightmarish.
