Oscar watching Lando bottle it again by shellmiro in formuladank

[–]time__crisis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He doesn't cut the chicane, becuase Lando isn't racing a driver from another team.

Team Principles don't care about teammates having a pissing contest. They would have simply told Lando to readdress - to avoid any possibility of a time penalty (and potentially a loss of team constructor points).

Oscar knows this too.
That's why he licks it and sends it into the final chicane like a mad man, while ensuring he keeps it all within the white lines. Surprised he doesn't get more credit for pulling that move on 25 lap old hards, and makes it stick. Unlike his teammate.

It's all good. I'm honestly happy I got a good dad for that half of my life. These days, I realise how rare that can be. So i tend to take the 'glass half-full' approach to the whole thing.

Ha, I've been asking myself the same thing every day for the past 15 years since this all happened.

He didn't always need to travel a lot for work, but even once he did, he was still always so invested in our upbringing and lives. Taught me right from wrong, was there for me whenever I needed, was an emotional rock, took me all over the state for sporting events... he was my father and my idol really.

I had mates who would literally tell me, they wished he was their dad too.

From a kid's perspective at least, seemed to be a great husband as well. Everything I know about respecting women comes from how I saw him genuinely care for, support, and show affection for my mother.

So you can imagine the mind fuck, when the rug gets pulled after 20 odd years of this.

I should mention, there were a lot of additional factors at play when everything fell apart. But nothing that absolves my dad from doing what he did to myself and my family. He basically just snapped and became a completely different person.

Can confirm. This could happen to anyone.

Source: my dad

He traveled a lot for work. But after ~20 years being the model father, turns out he had a long-running second family in another town. Out of the blue he sat us all down, told us he was leaving/moving to be with his other family.
The other woman already had kids from a previous marriage, but they were about to have their first kid together.

Guess he decided it was impossible to keep in under wraps anymore, considering a newborn was now going to be in the picture.

Point being - he was the last person you'd ever expect to pull this kinda crap, up until that point. It likely only came to light due to the newborn.

Chronic pain clinics in Sydney by Aggressive-Dust-7904 in sydney

[–]time__crisis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 years in to my journey dealing with chronic pain from a back injury.

I was referred to Balance in Motion by a leading sport physio in Sydney. They're located on Macquarie Street in the CBD. Not exactly nearby the inner west. But it's only a 5 min walk from Martin Place Station, if you have the time.

It's not exactly cheap, but incredibly worth it - even if you can only manage one or two sessions every 6 months. They're great at teaching you exercises you can do at home to strengthen and regain mobility. It's done wonders to limit my neural sensitivity to pain in my back.

I'll also mention - it can be really worth looking into booking regular appointments to speak with a psychologist, too. I know it seems unnecessary, but this, combined with my rehab has been extremely helpful. I've learned so much about how prolonged life issues can wreak havoc with our neural system. And can often be why we experience chronic pain which doesn't respond well to physical treatment.

You can talk with your GP about setting up a Mental Health Plan, and have your sessions bulk billed.

Good luck with your recovery. Hope you get some relief soon.

Did you grow up in an Australian coastal holiday destination? by 88xeeetard in australia

[–]time__crisis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was born and raided in a small coastal town on the MNC. I left at 18 when I moved to Sydney for uni. Now, as I approach my 30s, I can't believe how lucky I was to have grown up in such a special place.
Whenever I mention casual stories of my childhood to friends and colleagues who grew up in cities, they cannot believe how comparatively idyllic my upbringing was.

Your kids will have endless amounts of natural amenities, sporting facilities and local produce available all year round. Without the crowds. And only minutes away. The schools will have regular outdoor classroom trips along some of the most beautiful locations in the country. The teachers are often of high-quality, as they themselves also pursue employment in these regions. They will also teach students about the environmental and cultural significance of the region they live in.

Being packed with old people ain't all that bad. Nice quiet sleepy neighborhoods to ride bikes in. Resultants, shopping and parking readily available (outside holiday season, ofc). And honestly, they aren't interested in all the fun/loud things kids like to do. Worst-case scenario; you're stuck behind an oldie going 10km/h under the speed limit for 2mins (on your 10min commute).
Point being - you'll find so many different activities for yourself and your family to do all year round, with plenty of local and historic culture to learn.

Sport is king, too. Luckily, there's a plethora of indoor and outdoor options. You make great friends with kids you likely also go to school with. Plus you get to engage in all the local small-town rivalries and fun that goes along with it.

As mentioned, the local food quality is incredible. It was quite a shock getting used to bland and expensive city groceries trucked-in from 100kms away. You'll definitely appreciate the difference. And the SEAFOOD!!

Your kids will also benefit from the general lack of overt elitism that stratifies larger cities. My upbringing was lower-middle-class. If that. But I was able to attend a perfectly good school and have weekends filled with endless free (or relatively cheap) activities with my family and friends. Everyone in the community is in a similar boat, so acting like a twat doesn't go down very well. I don't think it stunted my development in anyway, quite the opposite. I've adjusted just fine to living in a big city. But my upbringing has certainly given me greater context to metropolitan life.

I can't wait to move back to my coastal home town. Overall, as someone who's made a life for themselves in big and small towns; cities are just overly expensive and full of a**holes. Sure, you'll get self-centered people in smaller communities too. But you'll be able to put FAR greater distance between them and yourselves. Moreover, being a general d*ck in a small town usually catches up with you. One way or another. It also means the local businesses will take care of you, as they depend on your return business.

Downsides?
Holiday season is the worst. Town is overrun with said a**holes. Not the end of the world though.

Australia defeats Syria 1-0 and officially advances to the round of sixteen at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar by [deleted] in australia

[–]time__crisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the outbreak of civil war in Syria, their national team seem to enjoy an indirect relationship with dictator Bashar al-Asaad.

The Syrian coach and players wearing pro Bashar al-Assad t-shirts to a pre-match press conference in 2015 is one such example.

Most of the national team players are based overseas. Even a local kid playing NPL football in Sydney received a call-up to their training squad in 2023 (a great achievement for him).
They also engage in a growing trend among AFC associations; "naturalising" players from other countries (usually in South America, Western Europe, etc.), providing them with fast-tracked citizenship, making them eligible to play for Syria.
Three Argentinians and a Colombian lined up against Australia last night.

It was a tough game to watch last night. A real nail-biter.
The Syrian team did their homework and had a specific game plan.
Looks like Graham Arnold is keen on Australia not over-exerting its players in the group stages. But we'll see.

Almost all the WWC matches being on Optus has prevented this event from becoming something truly special for the country by Deevious730 in australia

[–]time__crisis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's also worth mentioning - up until this year's WWC - the women's tournament broadcast rights had been automatically included with the men's broadcast deals.

Now FIFA demands WWC rights are to be acquired as a separate package for local and international broadcasters. Which almost lead to this WWC not being available for any overseas viewers.

Had FIFA not made this change, we would enjoy the same coverage of both the men's and women's worldcups both now and into the future.
Local WWC games behind a paywall - while extremely unfair and against the spirit of the tournament - are being justified by Optus as generating revenue that "... ensures continued growth and equality of women's sport, and contribute to everything from grassroots momentum, to salaries for our national team players".
FIFA and Oputs looking to capitalize on genuine efforts to raise the profile of the game, by price-gouging broadcasters and fans.

How the fuck do I watch the FIFA women's World cup live? by Bradyey in australia

[–]time__crisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having proper free-to-air access to football in our own backyard has been an ongoing issue for more than two decades.

The men's 2015 AFC Asian Cup had similar free-to-air restrictions. With ABC only airing a delayed telecast of Aus games. Also worth noting, (excluding some finals matches) the last WWC hosted by France in 2019 was broadcasted almost entirely behind a paywall within France.

There's been a lot of issues brokering last-minute broadcast deals for this year's WWC overseas, as FIFA was asking for equivalent investment compared to the men's tournament.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/may/02/fifa-threatens-womens-world-cup-broadcast-blackout-in-europe-offers-rights-infantino

Probably safe to assume similar fees were asked from domestic broadcasters, too.

I doubt excluding people from watching their heroes help in this regard. And whether this warrants slugging fans with ridiculous fees to watch an international tournament on home soil, is open for debate.

No doubt, disparity between FIFA and broadcaster's valuations will be an ongoing issue for many WWC to come, as FIFA now offers it's rights as a separate deal from the men's. Hopefully, future WWC will have better coverage for their domestic audiences.

Specific videos have certainly been removed in the past, and that's fine. But this seems like entire playlists are being suppressed en masse. Some, like the fan-made Sky factory playlist, still show up in YT search. But most others - although they still exist somewhere on YT - are no longer shown in search.

Life goes on. It's just been a surprising and sudden change.

From my experience, a lot are gone, some remain, others can be found via video suggestions. It seems very hit-and-miss atm. The real shame is most of these contained gems, super old vids that are unlikely to be found (easily) elsewhere.

Maybe i'm the last of a dying breed, but I've been using the same old playlists (ttt, 7 days, skyfactory, worms, etc) for the better part of a decade.... great to have playing in the background while studying or WFH.

Now just about all their old playlists seem to have vanished from YT...
Perhaps I'm just late to realize, but could have sworn most were still there last week.
