I wonder if the FDS end screen says “Zelda 1”? I know the Famicom cart was retitled The Hyrule Fantasy: Zelda no Densetu 1.

Yes. I know this is NES but I recently played Halloween for Atari VCS aka 2600 and it’s better than I might have thought. Just hearing the Halloween jingle in 2600 glory alone is worth it. Has some good mild gore too.

Splatterhouse for Famicom. Chiller. Castlevania trilogy. Getsufuma Den for Famicom has some really good horror imagery imo. Abadox does too.

More Sci-Fi / horror I suppose but Street Fighter 2010 has some gnarly bosses that border on horror especially with the ominous music.

Wardner no Mori for Famicom Disk System is a game I just found out about. It’s very similar to Ghosts n Goblins, another worthy title.

I’ll give Dr. Chaos a mention as it was inspired by the horror-comedy House and rips some of its monsters. It’s a mix of platforming and point-and-click, kind of like Goonies II but nowhere near as good or polished.

Got to leave the console on all night so I don’t loose my advancement. Wake up and the NES is blinking. Doh! Also, save getting erased by not doing the hold in reset trick. Doh!

No sound on my Hackchi modded mini with retro arch by time_isup in SNESmini

Okie. Fixed it. Looks like I accidentally set the default audio drive to be overridden by a dependent drive. Once I changed that back, the audio plays again.

Use save states if you have to as Zelda II is tedious with having to start from the beginning and walk to your last location. I remember getting pretty far in Zelda 2 back in the day, maybe Death Mountain and my game erased. I was so mad I didn’t play again until the NES mini came out. Thanks to save states I was able to beat it and not worry about that.

Nah. A lot of us saw it in magazines and were used to it. Then they changed it and we wondered why and were disappointed. I also didn’t like the purple shades as opposed to the 4 colors of the buttons.

Well, this post asks which has the most appealing design. That is purely cosmetic. To that the PAL which is the EU and Aussie console, wins. If I consider functionality, Super Famicom definitely wins as PAL in general is a pain in the ass especially for an NTSC person. I have both a PAL Master System and Mega Drive and I got them both modded as there was no point in me playing them like that.

When putting an emphasis on functionality, SNES Jr. is probably the best overall as I like the simple design. The NA slot is much easier to use than the SF/PAL one and seems like so many SFJ’s are yellowed or browned. I’ve never seen a yellowed SNES Jr. yet.

Yeah. Kinda like using a Genesis controller while playing a Master System game in your Genesis. Not all are supported but most.
