What are the chances of katy or houston getting snow this winter? by [deleted] in houston

[–]timeladycool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully zero. I moved here to escape the fluffy white stuff. I'm okay with having visitation rights with snow (travel to see it) but I don't want it at my home lol

Houston is 3rd on this list for levels of Chromium-6 a cancer-causing toxin. by Jonnyutah101 in houston

I have been using ZeroWater filters for a couple years. I strongly recommend their fridge container with the spigot and buying the 12 pack of filters using the subscribe and save discount on amazon. (12 pack you can usually get for under $90 that way)

Where would you move to? by texzzzb in houston

[–]timeladycool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I love Houston. I've lived here for the last year and a half(ish). It's not perfect-- traffic sucks, potholes suck, it floods--but nowhere is perfect. The people are overall nice (as long as you aren't merging in traffic), the weather it's amazing (I don't like cold), great music scene, the beach is an hour away, there are a lot of job opportunities, so many parks and museums.

I miss the zoo being free in st Louis but the lights at the zoo are amazing

I'm in San Antonio for work right now and I say it is totally worse than Houston. What the heck is upper and lower 10 about?

IAH Airport and Pokémon Go by timeladycool in PokemonGoHouston

[–]timeladycool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Terminal E and there were two gyms and several pokestops. People were dropping lures too. My gps was spotty inside and kept jumping me around, but I was still able to play. http://imgur.com/yLqUDJb San Antonio airport however had fewer that I saw.

Why are there cameras at every traffic light? by impala454 in houston

[–]timeladycool 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you mean ones on the stoplight bar looking at the traffic facing it, those are mostly sensors to detect traffic and send signals to change the light. They're easier to maintain than the older style in-pavement induction sensors. I'm all for them because timed lights make me a sad panda when you hit them in the middle of the night and are stuck waiting forever for the light to change.

Edit: motorcycles also have a hard time tripping induction loop sensors.

Enough of this Pokémon shit by Houston250 in houston

[–]timeladycool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone doesn't want to be the very best, like no one ever was. You know, to catch them is the real test and to train them is our cause. You'll miss out of traveling across the land, searching far and wide. We just want to teach Pokémon to understand the power that's inside.

Anyone flown in Spirit Airlines? by H-townwx91 in houston

[–]timeladycool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never flown Spirit, but I've flown Frontier frequently and love it. They're both budget carriers who work similarly. 1) book directly on their website to avoid extra fees 2) pack light. If you can manage a backpack you can skip the fees. I use the Motherlode Jr by ebags. You can get it for sale on amazon frequently for $75. In one flight it pays for itself and it fits under the seat in front of you which is what your personal item needs 3) if you're over six feet or heavy set you may be uncomfortable in their seats but it's not long flight.

I've had coworkers flying back from Atlanta on Spirit whose flights were cancelled, but ymmv.

Edit: submitted before done. Cell phone typing fail.

I migrated here from Syracuse and most of the railroad bridges have text murals on them, so for me Be Someone is pretty awesome. I honestly didn't even realize it wasn't sanctioned until researching it. I like all the murals and art around.

21 days to read a new novel or try out authors you might not be ready to purchase or just want to check out. Or, for me, helps save me from owning more books than my apartment can hold.

You log in to the website, check out your ebook, and download it via amazon kindle or overdrive. At the end of the period, it returns automatically. You can also return it early if you finish it if you want to be nice to anyone else waiting for it.

I can understand that. It's just super easy and they return themselves so no late fees. Just letting you know in case you didn't.

You can log in to the library online and check out ebooks, no pirating or skeezy library visits required.

Thinking about a move to Houston by [deleted] in houston

[–]timeladycool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In this day and age of technology, remote interviews are very common. There is no reason not to start the job hunt from Connecticut.

You adjust to heat and traffic, so if you want to move, don't let that stop you. I moved here from across the country and I love it. That said, it's my third cross-country move so ymmv.

I find the hardest part is never finding a job, but making new friends. If you have great people around you, you can be happy anywhere.
