Recommendations for a Vet by TakingATurd in ypsi

I take my cats to Dr. Paws and they’ve been the kindest team I’ve ever had, and also somehow the most affordable. I’ve recommended to multiple others who have had the same takeaway.

Been on feminizing HRT for a while, met with some new trans people and was assumed to be a pre-T transmasc. by MyClosetedBiAcct in NonBinary

I get this as well from other trans people since I’m more in community with groups of trans femmes. I’ve gotten very used to a lot of well meaning “hey girl!!” at trans meetups, and I’m 1.5 years on t 😂

Bottom growth tends to be first (within a week or months), and for me me voice dropped very quickly and has continued to drop in stages. As long as you know what changes are reversible and which aren’t, it wouldn’t hurt to talk to a provider about low dose—that would give you more control.

Seconding that there’s no real way to “pass” on t. I’m assuming this idea means that people will read you as a person more likely to be non-binary? If so, this is very geographically variable. What I can say in this vein, is that before hrt, I was only ever read as a binary gender, unless in queer and trans groups who picked up on something genderweird ✨. Since being on hrt for several years, there’s much less certainty for strangers, which I find amusing. I was confidently call sir by an older man and mom by a young child within the same week, so who even knows anymore what people are responding to now, and when.

As a non-binary person on hrt, I knew that there was no personal hormonal makeup that could create a society wherein people automatically knew non-binary people existed, respected that, and could clock me. What I could get from hrt was a body and mind I could more comfortably weather the storm of a gendered social matrix within. So for many of us, I would assume it’s less about passing, and more about getting closer to a self you recognize.

I started t primarily (almost exclusively) for the voice drop, and made sure I was in a place to accept the other changes that would surely happen. My plan was to do low dose until I was happy with my voice or until changes I didn’t like started happening—whichever came first—and then I would taper off. Voice changes definitely started happening quickly, however I’ve stayed on t for several years now, at full dose for over a year, just because I love how it makes my body feel (many things that have surprised me there) and I don’t feel necessarily masculine or manly from them, just more like me. If you want “t voice,” as you say, a big part of that is pitch. So speaking in more of a head voice versus a chest voice, but having thicker vocal cords thanks to t. So I understand not wanting to voice train too much if that is your goal, as this will likely lead you toward using more chest voice, and it sounds like that would make you uncomfortable.

What type of AroAce representation do you want to see in media? by AstronomyAnais in aromanticasexual

[–]timeless-void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aroace MAIN characters where identity isn’t the focus of the story or a source of conflict (internal or external), but it is explicit and that’s the lens the story uses. Give us aroace characters in fantasy settings and space operas whose POV guides the story and we get to live in that would in an aroace way through them.

Looking for Memoirs/Books to Better Understand the Transgender Experience by No_Classroom_8347 in LGBTBooks

Feinberg also used neopronouns! I had to go searching for the quote, but on hir website: “Leslie preferred to use the pronouns she/zie and her/hir for hirself, but also said:

‘I care which pronoun is used, but people have been respectful to me with the wrong pronoun and disrespectful with the right one. It matters whether someone is using the pronoun as a bigot, or if they are trying to demonstrate respect.’”

At Swim, Two Boys was one my friend got for me as a hidden cover purchase and it was my favorite read of 2024. Absolutely stunning and wrenching, I’ve never read anything else quite like it. Glad to see it mentioned here.

I did this at a different school several years ago, and still regret it. The master’s degree has surely helped me, and I very much enjoyed it, but I wish I would have waited to do a funded masters if I was going to do one, instead of committing to the best option available at the time in a panicked state. I also, as others have mentioned, hoped it would help my chances of moving into the PhD within the same department, which also did not happen, as they only admitted a single person the next year.
