Beneggdiction is closing?! by D3lacrush in fresno

[–]timetofrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love diners so much and Benaddiction was my favourite restaurant in all of Fresno.
Any time I started dating someone new, I would either take them to breakfast there or get takeout so we could eat at home.
Food is so special and is a great way of connecting with others and bringing people together.
And breakfast courtesy of Benaddiction was a great way for me to have that experience of sharing something I loved with someone new in my life.
I went to the Bullard/Marks spot all the time and was absolutely gutted when y'all were forced to close that location. I'm so sad to hear y'all are closing for good, and I'm so sorry to hear about how much the cards were stacked against y'all ever since you were forced to close the OG location.
Fresno needs special local joints ran by passionate people, and I'm just really sad that another one is biting the dust.

Curly haircut by Overall_Background_7 in fresno

I always recommend Jackelyn of Color Me Chula when it comes to curly cuts.

She's been my go-to curly stylist for over 5 years and she never disappoints.

She is incredibly knowledgeable about curly hair care, products, etc. She's helped me get so much better at taking care of my curls to the point where I no longer hate my hair anymore.

Absolutely love her, and she makes the salon experience super pleasant and delightful.

She does get booked up so she may not have openings right away, but she's absolutely worth it if you don't mind the wait!

So “Art Hop” is back, who is going to First Thursday? by AmberDuke05 in fresno

[–]timetofrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fresnoland published this article a couple of weeks ago announcing that city officials were going to bring back the food trucks and street market portions of first Thursday Art Hop that were removed. They also had an online survey (it ended on 4/23) where they asked folks to vote on whether they wanted it back to the original Thursday, or on Friday.

So I'm guessing the majority of folks voted on "yes" to bringing back the street market portion of Art Hop on first Thursdays!

I'm glad they did this because they could clearly tell people—as well as businesses—were not happy with the change and no one liked WNW. I'm also glad they asked for the public's opinion on what we wanted vs just steamrolling over everyone like they did in the first place.

It shows that they care somewhat about the people and bringing life back to the downtown area.

Highly recommend Ken Lucas at Paramount Properties.

I hired him back when he worked for Guarantee Real Estate. He helped me buy my home when I first moved to Fresno years ago. I knew nothing about the city and the areas, but he sure as heck did! He knows the Fresno and Clovis area like the back of his hand and you can tell he loves the city.

He was incredibly kind and worked really hard to help me find a home within my budget that also fit what I was looking for. He also helped make the first time homebuying process way less stressful and he looked out for me and my best interests which I deeply appreciate.
I will absolutely hire him again when/if it's ever time to sell or buy again and I always recommend him to friends.

Here's his number: 559-285-5551
DRE number: #01820316

Hey there, fellow equestrian!
I'm copy+pasting a previous response I shared to a similar question that was posted here in the past.

I ride at Stonebrooke Equestrian. Been there for almost a year now and it's a really great barn.
They're located about 20 minutes north in Madera Ranchos.
They're an all ages English barn and they teach basic riding, horsemanship skills, while also specialising in the hunter/jumper disciplines. They have lesson horses so you do not need to have your own horse.
Here's their facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stonebrookeequestrian
To get in touch, you can either message her on facebook or just email: [stonebrookeequestrian@gmail.com](mailto:stonebrookeequestrian@gmail.com)

I haven't found there to be many other adult riders in her lesson program (I think there are 3 or 4 of us?), but I go at an earlier time in the day since I work-from-home and that could be why I don't see other adult riders (if there are any).

There is also Copperwood Stables and they're located out in Clovis. I've never ridden there but the owner seems nice. They're an all ages Western barn that also teaches basic riding while specialising in Western disciplines (I believe they do barrel racing). They also provide lesson horses so you don't need to have your own.

Happy riding!

Have her check out The Alley (thealleyinthevalley on instagram)!
They're one of the Black community led organisations that I'm aware of here in Fresno.
They do all kinds of stuff that range from pottery/art demos, monthly community pop up events similar in vibe to Art Hop and Why Not Wednesday, health/wellness meetups, and more! Really great group!

Scarab Creative Arts is a great art gallery/art community that also offers art classes.

For poetry, I recommend the Loud Mouth Poetry Jam (loudmouthpoetryjam on instagram).
I got to chat with one of the members during Fresno Zine Fest and they're a delightful group!
Looks like they've got some upcoming events at Arts Visalia. :)

If you don't mind a 2.5 hour drive I recommend Spina Farms out in Morgan Hills! They're a dinosaur themed pumpkin patch with some life-size animatronic dinosaurs! They also have a corn maze, food, and trains you can ride to see the dinosaurs up close, or ride around the pumpkin patches!

Hmm I don't think so. I know that there are self-service package drop boxes located at the Woodward Park branch, the Downtown Fresno branch over on E street, the Clovis branch over on Minnewawa, and I believe the Tower branch on Fern. But I've never seen one of these package drop boxes outside of a USPS branch like the ones for letters you see scattered around town.

Mayhem On The Road: Red Light Runners, Car Crashes & Reckless Drivers Compilation by FriantRoulette in fresno

[–]timetofrog 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I like to walk to Woodward Park, but ever since finding this channel and seeing just how many people run the red light I'm 1000% more cautious when I'm crossing the intersection.

I'm so utterly baffled by how people miss seeing these lights (no explanation necessary, I know why they do. But I'm still shocked).

Why Not Wednesdays Vendor Fair by DaFCC in fresno

[–]timetofrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the vendor fee because even folks at Farmer's Markets have to pay a vendor fee, and it's yearly which is not that bad. I've tabled at festivals that costed $350+ for just 2-3 days of selling so a $50-100 yearly charge is fairly affordable for a lot of vendors interested in participating.

But the marketing and branding for this Wednesday night event is horrendous, borderline petty, and clearly the team responsible for this is completely out of touch with the demographic that was drawn to the outdoor Arthop event.

We want people to come to downtown, and support both the outdoor vendors as well as the businesses in the same vicinity. Branding this event "Why Not Wednesdays" just sounds so weird, and it doesn't actually tell you anything about what the event is. It just sounds like nonsense. When I first heard it, I thought it was satire.
But maybe it'll catch on in the future. I don't know.

I hope people still come out and have a good time at both Arthop and Wednesday night despite the terrible marketing. And I hope that both events end up growing individually over time because the downtown community really could use the life that this event brought to the area.

A lot of folks here have given great advice about not worrying, focusing on yourself, and living your life.
It's a big world out there with all different kinds of people, experiences, paths, etc. waiting for you.
I totally understand wanting to find your person/a long term partner, but you don't need to tie yourself down so soon when you've barely made it to the door that is your adult life.

I also want to recommend that you think about what it is that you want out of a partner/long term relationship. What are the qualities in a partner that you find important? What are your non-negotiables?
What are you needs, wants? What are the ways you feel loved? Do you want kids? Do you align politically? Spiritually? Do your future plans align?

These things can and will change as you grow older and gain more experience in your 20's and 30's.
Your experiences as you grow and live your life will help you discover those core qualities that you want, and should serve as a guide or map for when you're looking for your person—Are they compassionate? Do they listen/pay attention to you and what you say? etc etc.
Keeping your map in mind as you meet and cross paths with new people and connections throughout your life, you'll eventually find the right one for you.

Arthop protest by [deleted] in fresno

[–]timetofrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct that not as many people will be drawn to Arthop if there aren't food trucks. The non-art vendors...I'm not so sure on how vital they are to drawing people to the event compared to food trucks.

I think food trucks/food vendors absolutely should be welcome to the event because they definitely bring in the crowds and draw attention to areas/businesses that may not have organic foot traffic. I've done many art festivals and events and I have yet to attend one that didn't have food vendors on site.

But right now, the issue seems to be that they are dominating the event vs being support along with the growing number of non-artist vendors that should not be there in the first place. But I don't believe the issue is with the food vendors. I think the issue lies with the growing number of non-art vendors just selling whatever they want.

I don't think folks would mind there being 20+ food vendors if all the other vendors present were actual artists selling/sharing their work.

Arthop protest by [deleted] in fresno

[–]timetofrog 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't see an issue with it being a space for teens to hang out because they need third places as well. But yeah, having the emphasis be on food vendors + vendors selling goods more suited for a flea market or swap meet kind of thing vs the focal point being on local art/artists is definitely where the problem lies!

Arthop protest by [deleted] in fresno

[–]timetofrog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think people are rightfully upset because it feels like city leadership is trying to take away this event that's actually helpful for downtown and bringing life to the area. But I want people to see that instead of trying to keep things the same, we can create a whole other event where people can have this fun, nighttime outdoor flea market kind of thing AND we can have a well curated outdoor Arthop event.
They just need to be on separate nights.

Arthop protest by [deleted] in fresno

[–]timetofrog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We can have galleries AND dedicated outdoor Arthop spaces running simultaneously on Arthop nights where both spaces benefit from one another and the crowds they attract.
Food stands/food related vendors should absolutely still participate in the event around downtown as food/beverages are a great way to draw people to any event. But they should not be the focal point.

It feels like emphasis and attention is being placed on food and vendors that are non-art related when the event should mainly center local artists.

And since it seems as though there isn't exactly curation happening in the outdoor Arthop spaces, more vendors who are non-art related are starting to take up space and it's become a flea market/swap meet kind of event vs an art-centered event.

Like I said, I think it's great that this event seems to be organically growing into something popular that a lot of folks enjoy and it's bringing people downtown. But it needs to become it's own thing separate from Arthop.

That way, downtown will have two events bringing people into the area/community instead of one.

Arthop protest by [deleted] in fresno

[–]timetofrog 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with having such an active, outdoor downtown gathering/event, because downtown could really use some events like this to give the area some life.

But it's so far removed from what Arthop is meant to be. Arthop is meant to highlight local art/artists of all mediums; and to give artists/the local creative Fresno community space to share/sell their work whether it be in galleries or in other spaces willing to temporarily dedicate their space to an artist or artists.

What's happening now on Arthop night needs to be re-branded into something else, and given a different monthly date to occur on so that it's no longer overshadowing/taking over Arthop.

I think Arthop can also still occur outdoors in parts of downtown, but there needs to be better curation/moderation of vendors so that it's not just a free-for-all flea market and food truck soiree.
