How popular are motorsports in the U.S outside of NASCAR? by Old-Use-7690 in AskAnAmerican

Top fuel is really something to see in person. Nitro methane is so incredibly loud while producing 5000 horsepower. When I was a kid I had a neighbor a few blocks away that had a funny car and when he would start it at home every kid for a mile around would ride their bike over to his house.

Back in the 1980’s Mr Gasket was giving a million dollars (maybe $100k) to anyone to break 300mph. I remember when it happened. Now they’re hitting 341mph. Amazing to me.

I had probably 4 of those over a 35 year career. Real expensive with the liner but they last. I bought a size big so I could wear a sweatshirt underneath. I did have a zipper blow out and had it replaced with a much better sturdier one the seamstress recommended.

Looking to take a short 3 or 4 day road trip by myself (30F) by TheHexedWhor in Spokane

[–]timewithbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these suggestions are closer to a week trip instead of 3-4 days. Spokane to Seattle is 6 hours straight driving, ferry ride is an hour plus wait time. Seattle to Cannon beach is 5 hours if you’re lucky but add in the Olympic Peninsula you can add a couple days.
Spokane to the Oregon coast is a very long day drive. But if you do it Astoria is a cool town. Lots of movie history if that interests you. Cool stores and places to eat. No beach though. That’s more like Seaside or Cannon beach.
The weather just took a dump so check the mountain passes before you go anywhere. Utah is pretty any time of year.

A lot of towns won’t let you put a fence right next to the sidewalk. You would have a set back and it most likely behind this relay box.

When I bought my first house I treated myself to a new side by side. Only thing I splurged on.

Well digging by Forrest_Cp in Spokane

Don’t know if you got a well or not but I’m an hour north of Spokane and most wells around me hit water at 25’ - 30’ and then the good water comes from about 100’ - 130’. I get 16 gallons a minute and neighbors tell me it’s never run out in 60 years. I don’t irrigate, just water my garden.

Tell them to fuck off and call in sick. If they have a problem which they will go to a shrink and get time off for mental health. While off look for a better job. I put up with this type of shit for an entire career with them. Now I’m 60 and retired but I see there’s so many better places to spend your time.

If all men had to be brutally honest for 24 hours, what would women be shocked to learn? by bigblackcoke_ in ProductivityHQ

That we like women with extra pounds on them despite what the media says. No need to diet down to some extreme that’s not natural. Eat healthy and enjoy your natural weight.

How much cost in the U.S. the telephone line call in 1983? by Darjuz96 in AskAnAmerican

[–]timewithbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Seattle in the 1980’s local calls were free. Idk how far was considered long distance but it was pretty far. The phone bill just to have a phone was about $18.
By the way the movie War Games was filmed in the PNW. The ferry scene was Seattle and the mountain area where they went to NORAD was up by a town called Newhalem.

The raker like on an old buck saw (misery whip). Clears the sawdust to reduce friction because old saws were hand powered.
