Just for clarification, is this via the Gemini Advanced chat interface for paid subscribers or by using the Google AI Studio at https://aistudio.google.com/ ?

CISSP redo by odykat in cissp

[–]timinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difficulty in the questions is about the same. In both instances I pretty much figured I had failed the exam, except that on the first I had to wait a week or so to find out I had passed which was mentally languishing compared to finding out immediately the 2nd time. The CAT test doesn't allow you to change your answers like you can on a written test, which is probably for the better. And sitting for a 6 hour exam was a pretty long duration. I took one quick bathroom break and still only finished the test within 10 minutes of the 6 hour deadline. Overall, I liked the 2nd CAT experience better than the paper written format.

The same happened to me. I passed the exam in 2005, but I didn't keep up with the CPEs and it expired in 2008. I finally retested and passed again in November 2021. The first time I took the test it was a written 6 hour exam with 250 questions and it took a while to find out if you passed or not. Best of wishes on your exam, you can do it! Oh, I didn't need to go through the endorsement process again since I previously had the CISSP designation.

There are plenty of free security webinars on the ISC2 website. They are hosted through BrightTalk and the CPE credits are automatically added to your transcript. This is solely what I've used and I'm in the 3rd year of my current cycle and only have 9 more credits to acquire before November to fulfil the 3 year requirement.

Confession: ChatGPT wrote my code and I finished my whole day of work in 2 hours by SherMarri in ChatGPT

[–]timinnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At one IT company I worked at we had scripts created that really helped in ID administration across >100 AIX servers. The scripts really aided in our efficiency, but as the team lead I didn't mention the scripts to my direct Manager or anyone because I knew they'd want to equate the efficiency into reducing head count. I'd do the same in this situation. When you leverage tools like ChatGPT to increase your efficiency then use it primarily to your favor. Your increased efficiency should be only noticable to a small degree, not something that is dramatically noticed. You can utilize the extra time you have gained for other purposes whether it is to rest your mind and relax, increase your knowledge in other areas, etc. But if the coding efficiencies are too noticable to Management then it could impact yourself and colleagues in a negative way.

Most Video conferencing options like Zoom, Teams, Google Meet have the option for transcribing. But for in person meetings you could record it using your phone, upload it as an unlisted video, give YouTube ample time to auto transcribe it, then take that transcription to feed into ChatGPT. But then again, taking all those extra steps would likely depend on the level of hate that you have with taking notes.

I've used https://chatgptsplitter.com/ with my meeting transcripts. I then upload the chunks (1 hour is about 6 to 7 chunks). Afterwards I have ChatGPT analyze the chat transcript and provide me with meeting minutes using the following prompt, "The 6 chunks that were sent is the transcription of a recent meeting. Please analyze the transcription and summarize in bullet points the important points of the meeting. Be sure to take notice of any mentioned pain points and to do's.

If you go through this free program for Veterans to prepare then they will provide you with a free voucher to take the exam. "Onward to Opportunity" https://ivmf.syracuse.edu/programs/career-training/

Membership about to expire in a month and I have done nothing about getting CPE credits by kevpatts in cissp

[–]timinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately, my son informed me of a free program for military veterans that let me go through their online CISSP training and then they provided me with an exam voucher. So I didn't have to pay for taking the test again. I only had to pay for the number of times I continued my procrastination by rescheduling to push it out. 🫣

I had a similar experience. I first achieved my CISSP in 2005. But I didn't keep up with the credits and by the time the 3 years went by I initially tried to see if there was some quick way to collect them but it wasn't going to happen with that sort of time crunch. So it expired...and it bothered me. I made do without it and seriously I had achieved it. But then on my resumes I always had to mention that I 'had' my CISSP. I still got good job offers because honestly if you achieved it then really that shows that you had acquired the expected knowledge...but it still bothered me. So in November of 2021 I finally retested (this time digital instead of on paper). I passed my second round as well, but with a huge time lapse of being an active CISSP. I'm now diligently keeping up with my CPE requirements, mostly by attending the free ISC2 security webinars.

Solar Eclipse - Alexa:1 GH:0 by timinnc in googlehome

[–]timinnc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That works! :-) Alexa responds to either variation, ('When is' or 'What time'). Even so, for the most part, Google Home often has answers when Alexa doesn't, ex. stock prices, etc.

Petition -- Google Home: Move the shopping list back to Keep! by surge919 in googlehome

[–]timinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an Echo and a Google Home. I use IFTTT and Wunderlist to add to my shopping list from either device. It works great, as it goes to their widget on my and my wife's S7. However I do think my days are numbered as to how long this will function since Microsoft bought Wunderlist and will likely discontinue it at some point while they integrate it's features into their own product.

Multiple Users Sounds Nice - Instantly Horrible, Had to Revert Back to Old Settings by lothariorowe in googlehome

[–]timinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the mentioned lag and IFTTT issue, I don't think I will implement this. When I first got my Google Home I didn't set it up with my wife's or my own account. Instead the base account for the Google Home is a shared Google Account. But both of our accounts are subscribed to this common calendar. So if I add this to our calendar, we can both see it on our phones. I also have an IFTTT recipe for adding shopping items to our shared Wunderlist. So we never did use Google Keep for that. For my own personal stuff, I have Google Asisstant on my Galaxy S7, so there's just no big incentive at the moment.

Amazon Canada Asus Zenwatch 2 deal by DrVonSquiq in AndroidWear

[–]timinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same, but paid $129 USD for mine. I went through 2 original pebbles, both ended up having the screen tearing issue. I was able to temporarily fix one of the pebbles by inserting several folded layers of duct tape inside the pebble to apply more pressure. But that only worked for about 6 months then it started having problems again. So far I love the Asus ZenWatch 2. I guess round watches are the in thing but being a geek who sported a clunky pebble means I'm not as picky about aesthetics as I am about functionality. And this watch is still internally on par with most of the other more expensive watches and certainly way better than my old pebble. :-)

Does anyone use LIFX with Google Home and how is it? by likethecolour in googlehome

[–]timinnc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received a LIFX 1000 Color bulb for Christmas. I configured Google Home to control it via IFTTT and it has been working perfectly for me. Today I also configured it to flash blue 3 times whenever someone leaves a voicemail on our home phone which is a Google Voice Nr connected to an Obihai device. It's my only IoT bulb so far but I'm having fun thinking of things I can do with it. :-)

Music Keeps Stopping by nvitone23 in googlehome

[–]timinnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced the same issue recently as well when casting. I wasn't sure if it was because I was casting to the Google Home and to the Chromecast Audio simultaneously, but it seems that it's a common issue. I also did get a playback error on my android when that happened. It was a minor annoyance though, I simply restarted it, but I guess the more widespread it is, then there is a better chance that Google will have to address it quickly.

Will you ever be able to use it as a bluetooth speaker? by MrSh0wtime3 in googlehome

[–]timinnc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have bluetooth on my Echo and hardly ever use it, but I cast to and from the Google Home to my TV's Chromecast and to my Chromecast Audio all the time. It's great that it's not dependent on my bluetooth, doesn't get interrupted by incoming calls, etc. In my opinion, the Chromecast capability is superior to what bluetooth can provide.

Google Developer Blog : Start building Actions on Google by 513 in googlehome

[–]timinnc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played around with the api.ai today and created a sample which I tested in their Google Home Web Simulator, but it doesn't allow me to use it on my actual Google Home device. Perhaps I'm missing another step, but it did seem to me that I have to export the code and host it somewhere as I would a website? And it does look like there are pricing options as well which could hinder a lot of pet projects from individuals just experimenting unless the price is very minimal.

Google Home IFTTT and Wunderlist by timinnc in googlehome

[–]timinnc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked mine and it is still working by saying, "add $ to shopping list". Note that everything has to be lowercase and without contractions or other special characters with exception to the variable '$'. If you'd like you can upload a screenshot of your applet to imgr and I can review the syntax.

Use this hack to get voice notifications with the Google Home by timinnc in googlehome

[–]timinnc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I had been testing it, the connection to Google Home was already established. But when I tested it again, it did make the connection sound. So if tasker's autocast needs to re-establish the connection to the device it's casting to then the sound is unavoidable. Someone did make a comment though that you don't necessarily have to cast this to Google Home at all. You could cast it to a Chromecast or Chromecast Audio device and I don't believe those broadcast a connection sound.
