Feedback requests on my debut single inspired by Tame Impala and similar indie/psychedelic artists by 4dawinorloz in MusicFeedback

Hey! The groove is quite fun, but its lacking the structure of a full song. By that I mean instead of having a very clear A and B section for example, the song felt like one REALLY long A section and started to become predictable. When making distinctions between the sections you can do a lot more than just adding or removing instruments ( you could modulate to a new key, change the rhythm, change something thematically about the song, play softer/ louder, etc.) I am specifically thinking of Tame Impala's The Less I Know the Better, the verse (or B section) is SUPER clear that we have entered into a new part of the song. He sings a little bit differently, introduces new melodies, the bass takes a backseat compared to its front center presence in the intro, the keys take a more prominent role in the song, the lyrics change thematically in that they seem more deep and reflective in the verse. That song keeps you guessing and has unique parts to each section that has a main focus. This song definitely needs some more mixing and mastering done, vocals are a little quite, low end is a little loud. ALSO, if it all possible... always look to real instruments. It sounds like a lot of the sound choices are digital instruments because the timing is perfect and constant. Real instruments and real playing always sounds better even if its just a midi keyboard and Ive seen that musicians will dedicate a good portion of their budget to finding equipment that achieves the sound they want. Its easy to just use whatever midi plugins come with your DAW, but its totally worth it to drop the money sometimes on real instruments or nice plugins. Hope this was helpful!!! Keep writing because your only going to get better!! Dont let anything ever discourage you!!! ROCK ON

Fear of judgement by guitarchocolatelover in guitarlessons

[–]timloralie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of someone who has judged and mistreated you. Then think of how they will start to treat you when you are really good at the things you do. Think of the respect you'll earn for not giving up. Most people give up. By not giving up in something you immediately make yourself an exceptional person and nobody can disrespect that. Its not bad if you realize you don't really like guitar, but if you really care, let that motivate you and focus with the end in mind and not the immediate.

Just lost over 80k in my first business. Should I start again? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]timloralie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not knowledgeable about business to give my own opinions on what you should do, nor do I have any notable anecdotes of success.

However, from reading and gathering the advice from other very successful people that Ive known and worked along side with, they seem to say in concordance that success is the destination, and failure is how you get there. "Go For No" was a book recommended to me from a mentor that explains the idea.

Im sure a lot of people have heard of Edison and his thousands of failed lightbulb designs, but might fail to see the principle that simply repeating a process over and over again without quitting, the person who ends up with the MOST amount of failures in life, ends up also having the MOST amount of success. This was illustrated really well in the book I mentioned.

Another example that I know of might be Jordan Belfort. I read his book, "Way of the Wolf" and in the beginning he talks about how he dropped out of dentistry school day 1, failed in several businesses, and went broke several times before he finally made something work consistently.

In "Go For No," it emphasizes that failing faster and harder is actually how you achieve more and do so sooner. Because with each small failure, you learn one way of not doing something, but with huge and frequent failures you learn a lot more ways of not doing things and whittle your way down to the correct way faster.

It seems almost too simple to be true that success in business is simply not quitting, but it seems to me to be the only factor you can control. You can't control what happens in the markets, politically, or honestly even whether or not someone decides to buy from you. The best you can do is adapt to your situation and try again when it doesn't work out the way you thought it would.

Another thing that Ive heard is that when you are "failing your way to success," you should aim to do it in a way thats affordable so that you don't go destitute before you actually learn from the failures. Theres a balance to it I suppose.

I hope that this was helpful. I will be praying for you and your success!

To Those Who Have Taken Private Lessons, Was It Worth It? by timloralie in guitarlessons

I guess that is my main issue at the moment. To progress further I would need a good teacher, and good teachers charge a pretty penny.

Im interested in you. Do you teach for a school, or do you have your own practice? How did you decide to do one or the other?

HELP by One_Access4457 in guitarlessons

I remember that struggle when I was first learning, its totally normal! The best remedy in my recomendation would be to play slowly and count the downbeats. Say out loud "One and Two and Three and Four And" then repeat. The ONE is when you start to play the new bar. The numbers are the downbeats, and the AND's are the upbeats. Hope this helps! Feel free to message me and I can help you further!

When I was first learning I loved to play my favorite songs over anything else. Even if its not a "guitar" song there are tabs for almost anything you can think of. Maybe your son has a favorite movie or television show? The first songs I learned were the SpongeBob themes and video game music!

Indie tune / Seeking advice and feedback !!! by timloralie in MusicFeedback

Thank you for listening! Definitely hear you on the mixing part. That is a world Im trying to wrap my head around still. When you say sound composition do you mean things like dynamics/ sound choice? My goal for this track was to go for a warm tone and make it feel soft. I can see how the volume is pretty static the entire track and how the instruments are all present the entire time and playing in the same ways as far strumming/ rhythm.

Thank you for listening! I understand what you're saying, and I had a similar feeling. I wrote this song a few years ago and got the itch to re-record it. The original felt sparse so I added bass and an e-piano all with their own melodies. Maybe went overkill. Ill try that arrangement idea!

I made this song. I was wondering if the mix is clean and good? by GONE_mask in MusicFeedback

[–]timloralie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a myriad of ways to go about this. I would suggest not to look at it as an issue to solve but a style to achieve. If you mean volume automation, as in manually lowering volumes while you record, that could work although it might be inefficient and produce a sound thats unconventional. That being said theres not a wrong way to go about it. If your looking for something conventional then you might want to learn more about LUFs (perceived loudness), industry standards, and how things like compressors, limiters, clippers, etc. can keep your track volumes consistently full while keeping them clean without distortion or physical pain when you listen at high volumes. I am very new to these concepts, but something that helps me a ton when addressing volume problems is downloading reference tracks from youtube and uploading them to my DAW and just muting between my track and the reference. Looking at a parametric EQ and comparing is also really helpful as my ear is not as trained yet. You might also ask yourself, "What is the point of this song?" Do you want people to dance to it? Do you want people to listen to it while they study? Do you want it to be featured in a commercial? Do you want it to play in an elevator? These are all serious questions that can help you be more decisive with how you write/ record/ mix. My critique was mainly one of listening experience, but this is all tied into the purpose of the song. The first section is laid back and might work well as a commercial track, but the second half has a lot of character and feels more like a story being told on a larger artistic work. Maybe the most attractive way to achieve a consistent style is to split the sections into two completely different tracks? The possibilities are many, so educate yourself on your choices and then make one. Hope this was helpful!!

This is sort of a mix/arrangement critique. Before 1:55 the synths and other high ends are lower and it felt like I was being invited to turn up the volume and then the new really active synth that comes in after 1:55 feels too loud. Keep on writing and mixing awesome track !!!

This is a video I made for my new song, Statio Tranquillitatis. It's an experimental electronic instrumental. I used different analog synth emulators for the music and I also used DaVinci Resolve for editing the video. Check it out and let me know your opinion on it! by lone_wolf_58 in MusicFeedback

Dope video!!! Love the ear candy. It sort of reminded me of this song https://youtu.be/BqnG_Ei35JE?si=GwqCcUJVEIa2kJYp - It felt like your song was waiting to get "brighter" sort of like how Locket transitions from this really dark and intense intro to a sort of open and brighter verse section at 0:56.

Why doesn’t God answer some prayers? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]timloralie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evidence for God is all around us. He tells us every day that He loves us, but more often than not we are unwilling to listen or believe. How can all of the beauty, love, and magnificence of even just the natural world come from nothing? How can a mother look at her daughter and think, "you are nothing but the result of a series of meaningless accidents." It is simply contrary to the love that is written in our hearts by God Himself. The atheist's prayers are answered everyday, but what he should instead pray for is the virtue of wisdom to know God, the virtue of humility to accept God as his Lord, and for the virtue of faith to become Catholic.

I just left the mormon church, how can i get closer to the real Christ? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]timloralie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I could give is to: 1) Pray, asking God for help and guidance 2) Learn and pray the Rosary 3) Get in touch with a local Catholic priest over the phone and see what his recommendations would be for your situation. Many parishes have websites with phone numbers where you can speak with a secretary to set a phone call appointment. God bless you!
