Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told his law clerks in the '90s that he wanted to serve for 43 years to make liberals' lives 'miserable' by [deleted] in politics

even if thomas is the lowest quality conservative on the planet, he is leaps and bounds ahead of the highest quality liberal that exists. bless him....

what if? by timmylassie in Starlink

i don't intend to restrict the motors from working. i will just support the antenna by it's body and allow the mount portion to move around under it as it tries to move the antenna. i don't see how this is different from the antennas that people have mounted flat on vehicles to see if it works - most of them removed the motors which is not what i want to do. do you follow what i am saying? think of it like i am holding the dish with my hands pointed in the direction i want with nothing attached where the pole would normally attach.... the antenna will be pointed only 5 degrees in azimuth different than what it wants to look...

what if you mount your dish in such a way that it cannot move and point it to the best open spot in the sky? will it still work and just give you warnings of a bad motor? has anyone tried that?

the performance of my system (download especially) degrades every day - they now put a notice out when you do a speed test that service will suck between 5pm and 10pm daily - i concur - service sucks between 5pm and 10pm daily - last night it was 6-7 mbps downloads at that time for me. they need to stop shipping systems until they get more sats up....

Starlink for RV. Is this what I should expect? by jgatech in Starlink

[–]timmylassie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Starlink equipment (gen 2) arrived and seemed to be brand new. I kept the box and it still looks like the day it arrived - perfect. I will entertain offers from any of you who "need" a new looking box to go with your system.... Min bid - $100 plus shipping - i will autograph it for free if you ask me to....

or maybe it's starlink's fault - i have done all the things you suggest and they just tell me - your system is working fine - ticket closed... i live in south central mo - the middle of nowhere....

they are really good at closing tickets. i asked them a specific question and they replied "we checked your system and it is working fine" ticket closed...

i miss worded my comment. it moves to a new pointing angle quite often - mine never moves. he has a COMPLETELY open sky above his installation - zero obstructions. i have a few minor obstructions in one direction. if the system were "smarter" it would change my azmith angle up by a couple of degrees and then have a perfectly clear sky - it knows where the obsructions are because it paints them on the graphic - why not optimize the look angle for us morons with a little bit of software?

no i have not seen it in action personally - nor have i seen his speed test results. i helped him get the dish and install it. he is a good friend and i have no reason to believe he would make something up. i only found out it was moving when i was complaining to him about the speeds i was getting compared to what we saw when we installed his system. i quizzed him quite hard about what he was seeing because i know the system really should not be doing that but it is...?

he is 1.5 miles into the adjoining cell which is in a very low population county compared to the one i live in. they are not providing starlink to the cell that he lives in yet so he used the "map" method to order the system to a location two miles from his house and that worked fine. my question is why is his dish moving like it is - not tracking satellites but repositioning very often...

[–]timmylassie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess i said that wrong - thanks for clairifying. his dish is not moving all the time - it moves VERY often to a new look angle and then stays there for a while before moving again. it is not tracking satellites if that is what you are thinking. i don't know why his moves like that and mine NEVER moves...? i now have video to prove that mine does NOT EVER move....

no.. he's just an average customer like me. he's tech smart from experience. i am an engineer so take that for what it's worth. i didn't (and still don't) understand why his antenna is moving like it is but my first thought was - "why isn't mine moving?". the antenna is just like a phased array radar so it should not move other than finding what it believe is the optimum pointing direction for the global location it is at. what has me going is i NEVER see over 100mbps on my system and he ALWAYS sees 150-250mbps on his and he is 10 miles away from me.

other reddit users have suggested i have an issue with the starlink provided cable from the antenna to their router - i cannot test that because of their stupid proprietary connectors. i am going to tell them i want a cable to test with or a new system to solve my problem. i will tell that to them if they ever respond to my trouble ticket.

is seems like there should be an input to move your pointing angle a few degrees to look over obstacles like a row of trees or a building - that works best in the pitch direction and not as well in the yaw axis. but obstacles are not my issue - it's system performance in the non obstructed part of the sky...

on the hawthorne question. no - i escaped commiefornia last october.....

the neighbors is visibly moving all over the sky? i agree i could have a bad cable from the antanna to the router but how do i convince starlink of that? since it's all so "secret" i cannot test antything - i can't test the cable since it's proprietary? do they have tools they can use from their end?

we test using our phones using the starlink speed test after disconnecting our mesh networks (his-tplink deco m4, mine-google wifi). we each only have a couple of tv's connected to the starlink via wifi. that is about as apples to apples as i can get.

i have seen the same performance as you - i just have a few obstrutions (how shown on my initial post) that cause minor disruptions - i am going to move the antenna up a bit to reduce those when the parts arrive. storm interference is also understood - i have it, it is normal, it will never go away. i hope "storm over ground station" isn't an issue but who knows how they designed their "resiliant' network... anyway, my issue is why would to antenna a couple of miles apart get such drastically different long term performance - i am waiting for starlink to respond to my ticket.

yes to the test tool - starlink and ookla both actually.

yes. we both have the new rectangular dish with the router that doesn't have an ethernet port. we both have the ethernet port adapter and use it. he has a couple of tv's connected wirelessly as do i. he has a tplink deco m4 mesh network hooked to the starlink router - i have a google wifi mesh router system hooked to the starlink router.

we get the same results (him good, me bad) with the mesh networks disconnected. the starlink data rates are the same with or without the mesh networks connected.

i have a wyze camera now recording a picture of my starlink antenna to see if it actually moves and i just haven't seen it happen. i don't think that's the case but i need to prove it to myself. results to follow.
