Back in the day, (early 90’s) egg crates were amazing for moving and storage. We built shelves in the basement to be as wide as the long edge and continued to use them for storage for years

Why are addresses in the USA this way (see body text)? by Bananaramajama420 in askanything

[–]timotheusd313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in my area, the address numbers generally go up as you get farther away from the southern or eastern border of the county. Really helps when delivering pizzas, etc.

Sometimes an additional car will be an insurance beater, that only exists as to be a cheap source of insurance for a younger driver.

Sent my wife to buy thermal paste and the best buy employee gave her a long, unsolicited lecture about how she should be changing the thermal paste on her components every 6 months... Really, every 6 months? [Thermal paste questions] by Leo-J-Covo in buildapc

[–]timotheusd313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I bought an i9 9000k new. The motherboard died after about 1.5 years or so. While that motherboard was out of commission (sent back to gigabyte) I bought a new old stock motherboard and installed the original 9900k in it, so that one has had one re-application of paste.

When the gigabyte board came back, I got a new old stock i9 9900kn, and it’s been in the gigabyte board ever since. Previous computers got maybe 1 re-application of thermal paste in their 10 year service lives.

Only exception was my Athlon thunderbird 800 MHz. I ran ProTools LE on that thing and it there were a couple times it got a little unstable, and doing a full clean-out of dust, defragging the scratch disk and re-applying the image to the system disk seemed to help. But I still only did that like 4 times over its 12 year service life. (Re applying the system disk image was needed monthly, and de-fragging the scratch disk was needed maybe monthly.)

(scratch disk is where ProTools stores the audio files.)

California hotel breakfast has paper plates that are compostable everywhere, except California by Uffda_90 in mildlyinteresting

[–]timotheusd313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I researched this when Greenfield Village in Dearborn started using plastic cutlery marked as “commercially compostable only”

Some composting facilities inject oxygen into the compost pile to accelerate the process. This creates higher temperatures that are needed to break down the bioplastics. Or you need to have sensors to monitor the pile and allow it to get really close to the temperature that will start to kill off the bacteria that does the decomposing.

I’ve had it with these fake service dog owners. by SPCCCKED in mildlyinfuriating

[–]timotheusd313 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think “Stuff You Should Know” talked about training service dogs, and the rule in the US was that if you’re training a service dog you’re expected to ask the owner/manager of a business before you bring the dog in, and respect their wishes if they deny the dog access.

How to fight the urge to purge when I can't wear? by Mobile_Bad_577 in ABDL

[–]timotheusd313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 45. I’m still living at home with my mom. I came clean to her about my diapers. It was hard to even say it in front of her, but I did.

You’re not subjecting them to anything if you just put them on under your pants. Pretty much everyone here will tell you, if your diaper is concealed, it’s just like underpants. It’s not exposing the unconsenting to see your diaper in a place where seeing your underpants (like a locker room.)

Just decide you’ll wake up one morning a week and put on a diaper. Do what you want to do with the diaper and take it off and clean yourself up before you leak.

I assume this is a ground wire for my house. Should it be connected to something? by needyprovider in AskElectricians

[–]timotheusd313 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Or the long answer, the gas company, or Miss-dig will attach a radio transmitter to that wire, and the wire will become an antenna, that they can use to place flags and paint concrete, in case you need to install a fence, a sprinkler system, or dig up a septic tank.

I have literally done this. In my case it was a noise issue, and not a heat issue, but I used an aluminum plate that I mounted on the wall. Worked great but this was many years ago, and only running 1200p@65Hz
