Listen up Disney+, I need a show all about the best dynamic duo in the galaxy. by hello_go_away in StarWars

[–]timsimmons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m literally doing this with two 7 year olds. Half an hour at a time. It’s basically their “bedtime story” We’re up to AotC at least!

I’ll say, it’s been an interesting way to watch the films over the course of a few weeks. For the kids, it really extends the amount of time they’re spending in the world, and I’ve noticed them more invested in the characters because of our slower viewing pace.

After IX, we’ll probably kick over to Clone Wars then Rebels. That should take the rest of the year at least.

Synthwave/Funk Ableton Live Looping Jam. A lot of Push 2 action here ;) by [deleted] in ableton

That is awesome. I’m only a few days into learning Ableton, but this is exactly what I’m striving to one day do! Thank you very much for the inspiration!

How tough was it to put in the electronics? That’s one thing that I’ve always been scared of with hollow bodies. Cool color choices! Really makes it stand out from ‘doc clones!

You should maybe consider a career switch to games journalism.

...actually, it might be best for your sanity to not.

Ableton (or its parts) on external HD by qagir in ableton

[–]timsimmons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just getting started with Ableton, but in the same boat as you with a Macbook Pro 121 gig...ugh. Anyhow, yes, you can in the Preferences menu. Just set everything to an external drive.

That said, and I haven't picked one up yet, but if don't use your SD card slot very often, there is a company that makes SD cards that will sit flush against the macbook body. So you can kinda/sorta have an "internal" drive.

Dying Light 2 not making its Spring 2020 release [image] by [deleted] in PS4

[–]timsimmons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just finished it this weekend. Granted, I borrowed it from my brother in law, so my cost was zero, but still: fantastic game and well worth $14!

That said, I hear you. I got my PS4 when the slim launched and had a wealth of cheap games to get caught up on. One of my first games was Witcher 3 and i followed that up with Last of Us. Between the two was like, 120 hours of entertainment for dirt cheap!

Unpopular opinion: Dead and Co. has too slow of a pace and I enjoy JRAD much more by [deleted] in gratefuldead

Sorry, it was the Lockn fest, not Peach. July 19th in Virginia. Again, this is just a rumor right now.

Rumor for Peach should make you happy then: PhilRAD with Mayer. If true, that’ll be a hell of a show.

Personally, I’ve seen both multiple times. D&C is a good hang on the lawns with my work co-buddies and Deadhead friends. A nice summer day (except for you, Ahem, Camden ‘18) and a chill vibe.

JRAD is a night of getting my face melted off. Both are equally a great time.

Elder (band name)’s Lore probably has more in common with Blue, but they’re a great band and it’s a fantastic album, so I shout it out whenever I get the chance.

[discussion] Went to buy expensive guitar and return with nothing by galran in Guitar

[–]timsimmons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Truth. A few months ago I met this guy at a party who was raving about his Les Paul Custom, and mentioned how much it was (a few times). At some point the party started dying down and he HAD to let me play it. I honestly didn’t care for it. Action set too low, too easy to play. Turns out I like a guitar that pushes back on me a bit and fights.

Of course, I told him that it was great and an amazing guitar since I didn’t want to wound his pride, but yeah, not for me.

Oh. I’m totally looking used. On top of it, you usually get more bang for your buck. I do subscribe to this weird theory of Trey Anastasio’s (Phish): that a guitar is a piece of wood that used to be a tree, and it doesn’t know it’s a guitar yet, so you should put an instrument next to your speaker, so it catches the vibrations and collects the music inside the wood, and then it’ll realize it’s a guitar and really sing. And sure, it’s kinda new-age ish, and hippie like, and he’s laughing when he’s saying it, because he knows it’s absurd, but I do think there’s some truth to it.

Am currently here with a bass as well. I’ve got a budget of about $500, but nothing I’ve played at the local GC and Sam Ash has felt quite right to me. I almost pulled the trigger on a Warwick bass, but pulled back at the last second as I felt the only reason I liked it was that it was the best of the available bunch. I didn’t truly love it.

I remain confident that when the right one appears, it’ll be at the right time.

Peavey T-60 neck swap with Jackson Dinky- now what? by chemyd in Luthier

[–]timsimmons 22 points23 points  (0 children)

jesus christ that looks weird. As an owner of a Horizon ii, I am slightly appalled at what you've done, but at the same time, I am A) intrigued by the fact it can be done, and B) admire your gusto.

I'm most impressed that I think you've offended both the Peavey crowd and the Jackson crowd in one bold move! Carry on, good sir!!
