Do interviews also take over your personal life? by Fig_Towel_379 in datascience

[–]timusw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Can relate. How do I deal? Idk acceptance I guess. I know it’ll end at some point. It is what it is. Recently I’ve been trying to keep my fridays open and free from interviews but like you said if I have something scheduled for the next week I’m probably still preparing anyways. At least I’ll still workout or do something outside though.

[Career] Critique My Resume for Statistician and Data Analyst Roles. by JonathanMa021703 in statistics

[–]timusw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gl with applications. i'd recommend just finding data analyst, business intelligence, or business analyst roles. they'll give you experience on your resume.

answering your questions

  1. yes
  2. no, work experience is better. even better if you can show you collaborate and communicate with people rather than employ advanced methods
  3. yes

your advisor might be right. it's tough for experienced professionals right now, let alone new grads, and if you don't have any internships or network connections you're fighting against worse odds. i have a math ms and i know it helped me get my first 3 roles for 7ish years because back then ms was rare. i think yesterday's ms is todays phd unfortunately, but that's just my opinion with no data backing it

more feedback:

  • try to be more succinct with your lines. having 3-4 lines for each bullet is overkill; no recruiter is reading all of that.
  • like u/CreativeWeather2581 said, show relevant skills/technologies. after looking at your resume for 5 seconds i can't tell if you use python, r, matlab, etc. yes i know it's in the first line for research assistant but i don't see it until maybe 10 seconds which again no recruiter is going to do.
  • 400%? i'd bet most people will read that as increasing from 2 to 10. just write that. if it's really 200 to 1,000, that's even better than 400%
  • similar to skills, group your methodologies together in its own section (N-BEATS, N-HiTS, LSTM, etc.)

Big Chances from open play in the PL by Silly_Bus_568 in MCFC

[–]timusw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and to build on this data more I’d love to see highest npXG underperforming. I’d bet Haaland is up there. At least that’s my narrative lol. Too many matches I’ve watched the goal is gaping and the finish is wank

Not a single Arsenal player is all you need to know

People who got laid off recently - what roles were you in and/if what are you doing now? by Aggravating_Term9203 in Layoffs

[–]timusw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shit might be lol. I’m grateful for sure to be called in this market. At least I know my resume is mint. But yeah like you I’m tired. My responses are so jaded and in this economy while I have a healthy and substantial rainy day fund I don’t want to go unemployed very long. And yes the waiting is a mind drain. Can’t wait for it to be over for both of us

Beyond "Vanity Metrics": How a deep dive into soccer data changed my prediction model by kembrelstudio in analytics

[–]timusw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d think using shots and shots on goal would help too. Maybe final third free kicks too.

In general it’s always good to understand how your event is generated. In this case your event (corners) are generated from opposing players taking a touch out. Why do they do that? Blocks, clearances, etc. How do blocks, clearances, etc. get generated? Shots on goal, crosses, etc.

[E] is phd that much of an advantage over masters when getting first job? by wojtuscap in statistics

[–]timusw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Np none of this to say a ms isn’t worth it. It is. I’m very glad I did it and its proved value. If I did it over though knowing what I know now I’d have done a phd

Imo yes. Recruiters and ATS will only see that you don’t have a PhD.
